Featuring Mike Colter as Luke Cage, with Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple (a.k.a. the "Night Nurse"), Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, and Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth Stokes. Also: OLTL's own Frankie Faison, the great character actor best known for everything from Silence of the Lambs to The Wire.

I really love the news that the show will also feature live musical acts during episodes - reminds me of New York Undercover.

It's very worth watching.

Shocking because it was all but assumed renewed, and was in pre-production on Season 3. According to the trades its cancellation is part of the power struggle creatively between Netflix and Marvel, which is soon launching a new streaming service - Netflix wanted changes, some other party didn't budge. I know the Marvel Comics creative group - not connected to the Marvel movie group, and spearheaded by the comics wing and possibly Ike Perlmutter - was heavily involved with that. Netflix also does not own the shows outright, which was an expensive sticking point when filming in NYC.

I'd hope Marvel will choose to relaunch it on their service.

Someone said that this may have to do with Disney's plans to launch their own streaming service.

The second season was a bit disappointing to me but I still thought it merited a third season, so I wouldn't be surprised if a Luke Cage series is re-launched on a new Disney streaming service.

Iron Fist and Luke Cage are both canceled, will Jessica Jones be next?

I personally suspect it may have to do with the Marvel TV creative group, as I mentioned. They are made up of several head creatives from the comics line plus the infamous Ike Perlmutter, and they used to attempt to micromanage the MCU films before Kevin Feige demanded the film line be divested from the creative group and Perlmutter entirely. They were known to be difficult to deal with.

    • Of course! It's a lot to compile, with every Tom, Dick, and Harry credited, but it's fun!

    • So far, Canada has been one day ahead for six episodes. @Toups @Errol  any official word on this? MVJ commented to a viewer on twitter:   from @iammskye1 I demand to be put in the same schedule with the Canadian #BeyondTheGates viewers. If that means dropping us two episodes in one day, one aired live and one on streaming, do what you gotta do, lol. They ain’t bout to be out here outdoing us.   Michele Val Jean @MicheleValJean June 2, 2025 I hate this too. It really screws with the way we construct reveals if one batch of viewers is ahead of the rest. Very frustrating. #BeyondThe Gates #BTG https://x.com/MicheleValJean/status/1929742526107603321   from @iammskye1  Thank you for acknowledging our pain.

Michele Val Jean @MicheleValJean June 2, 2025 And then there are spoilers and it really does spoil the reveal for those who haven’t seen it yet. sigh. #thanklessjob #BeyondTheGates #BTG https://x.com/MicheleValJean/status/1929744253829501104 -

    • I guess that's why I never could hate Drake Hogestyn or John Black so much that I wanted him off the show.  DH always came across (on screen and off) as the ultimate "team player," who never phoned it in or mistreated his colleagues or fans in any way.
    • Good Morning, this is still funny to me but I totally enjoyed what makes up "DemetriKane" so unnecessary, who cares?!!! Glad you like the Emma Peel derivative story.
    • Christian Streaty penned today's Day's script. https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-streaty/
    • Yes, they did.  I still have them.  I think there were three.  AMC and GH as well.
    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.
