Port Charles. Passions did ridiculous stuff but they never took themselves too seriously. Port Charles was like trying to be Buffy or something.

I think Passions took itself more seriously in the beginning, but Reilly eventually gave up when he realized the show was never going to be what he wanted it to be, so started selling the show as a parody of soaps and all the cliches involved with that.

That's a very good theory, but if it's true - they completely crossed the line with the Valerie/Vincent/Julian story. Tracey Ross even said after the show was cancelled that she was very uncomfortable with that whole convoluted plot.
