August 10, 201411 yr Member Very sad to hear this. Carl was always one of my faves on AW when I watched it as a kid. CK was a great actor.
August 10, 201411 yr Member Devastating news for the company of Another World. Charles was a consummate pro and a talented actor. I was SO happy to see him finally win the Emmy in 1996. His scenes following Ryan's death were just so heartbreaking.
August 10, 201411 yr Member Speaking of Charles Keating's Emmy win, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jilVPBsSIlY Edited August 10, 201411 yr by amybrickwallace
August 10, 201411 yr Member I first saw him on Another World, but I also loved him as Caleb's henchman on Port Charles. RIP.
August 10, 201411 yr Member He was also great as a St. Peter type character in the Melina Kanakaredes drama, Providence.
August 10, 201411 yr Member I wasn't a regular viewer of Another World, but I remember Charles Keating from the 1999 version of "The Thomas Crown Affair". There are now 10 lead actor/actress Daytime Emmy winners who are no longer with us: Charles Keating, Jeanne Cooper, Al Freeman Jr., James Pritchett, Irene Dailey, Larry Haines, Val Dufour, Michael Zaslow, Macdonald Carey, Douglass Watson.
August 10, 201411 yr Member This is likely the episode that won Charles the Emmy the next year. God, this is SUCH good work. Charles was absolutely brilliant. His last line of the show was "All is cheerless, dark and deadly." What a performance.
August 10, 201411 yr Member My God! Why did you have to post that vid?! Ugh My heart breaks at the loss of AW all over again. Charles was so wonderful in that eppy. Soaps have given up on that in favor of mediocre pets.

I want people who weren't around or too young for the original run to see how a soap could be so good when done the right way. It stinks that Paul Michael Valley left and Ryan died, but it gave Charles/Carl so much good material.
August 11, 201411 yr Member That AW episode posted above represents all good things about the genre - and how TIIC desecrated it. Thank you for posting it.
August 13, 201411 yr Member Ironically, Charles Keating played a patient in Awakenings, which starred...Robin Williams.
