A VO done by Peter Bergman saying "the role of Billy Abbott will be now played by David Tom" in the last scene of the Monday US episode of The Young And The Restless!

Wow I didn't know that Jess started as a temp recast! Did I understand correctly, did they switch between her and BD back and forth in the same episode?!?!

I must say I like Jess's impression of Brenda a lot.

Jess filled in for Brenda Friday Jun 19th 1987. Brenda was seen on Monday Jun 22nd and Tuesday June 23rd as those scenes had been already filmed before Brenda was absent. Jess took over permanently June 24th.

The funny things is there are clips on YT of Jess' first day (as a permanent cast member) where she is standing outside of Kay's house and they make the announcement, fair enough. Then the next episode she is about to make a speech at Phillip's birthday party and they do the announcement again. Odd.

I'm not surprised they made the announcement more than once. Jill was the star of the show and in the pre-DVR days, they probably wanted to make sure viewers knew that was Jill.

That's my prediction as well. CBS (and Sony) can't be thrilled to see B&B starting to beat Y&R in several demos. BUT...that might be just what's needed to light a fire under everyone's asses at Y&R (even if the results could be scary in the process, lol).

I think Sharon or someone said this was why Brittany got her hearing back.
That would have made much more sense. I'm not sure why they never brought Pammy back (it doesn't seem they ever did much with the character on Somerset anyway).
Sharon got a very raw deal with her soaps post-Raven. I saw a bit of her from early 1989 OLTL and they had made her up and styled her to look like someone's hip grandmother.

R.I.P.: Anthony Geary has passed away

You could see the moment coming when they were supposed to make it happen - Lucky is revealed to be alive in 2000, Laura turns on Stefan and Luke and Laura go on the road together to find their son. All of this happened, they promo'ed it and as a teen viewer I was excited and more than ready; Luke and Laura had been apart for way too long as it was. And then it just didn't quite come together. I still don't know why. Maybe the BTS turmoil of that year, when both Guza and Riche iced each other out in mutually assured destruction.
I don't think Tony was exactly demanding more of Luke and Felicia, though he did do his part in selling that story and the affair to the press. I think he was mostly just very courteous and fulsomely kind to Kristina Wagner. And I can't see Genie vetoing it either, since she played a reunion arc a little over a year later under a vastly inferior creative regime. I'm not sure what happened. Maybe they thought they were going to string it for the 20th wedding anniversary?
I do think Guza would've put them back together eventually. I wish he'd been the one to do it in 2001-2, for all his flaws. He never got much of an opportunity to write them fully together (willing or not). I am curious to see how it would've worked.

Yes, that is correct. Ed's house was next door to the Spaulding mansion, which came into play in stories several times. Rita and Alan would spark each other through the fence. I think he let her use his tennis court, while he and Hope would use Ed and Rita's pool. (Why wouldn't the Spaulding mansion have a pool. I mean, really. But as a way to force certain characters together I guess it made sense).
Also, the proximity of the houses became pivotal during the Roger storyline when he came back to town after Alan helped him fake his death the first time. Christina (later Blake), then a little girl, was living with Ed and Rita while Holly was in prison for "killing" Roger. Roger kept track of Christina by hiding out at the Spaulding mansion, much to Alan's distress.

Sharon Gabet is a wonderful actor, but Brittany was a badly conceived character. The year was 1985-86, and Brittany was introduced as a vixen/villainess who was also disabled. She was completely deaf. Now tell me -- in what world would soap opera fans want to see a deaf woman be the bad-girl/bitch?? Back then, the entire idea was off-putting to the fans. You "might" be able to make something like that work in 2025, but I can't imagine how any soap opera would finesse it. The entire idea still seems amazingly bad to me, all these years later. But none of this garbage was the fault of Sharon Gabot. I just wish she'd been cast on AW in a different role.
