OLTL: Thursday, May 30, 2013 Episode Discussion

Realistically, it's not that big a thing; it's only been a week or so of shows so we can just call it a bum week - it just feels longer because of the scheduling change. But yes, I do think AMC had a far better last 4, excepting the big reveal with Todd and some of the character stuff with Bo/Nora/Snoop, Matthew/Dani, Viki, Clint, Natalie, Jeffrey, etc.

I like Shelter because I like that scene and that music a lot; I think it fits OLTL. But I don't care that much about the bodyguards, or about the weird bits of business floating around the club. I like Nikki, I love Cutter and Rama; I can't stand Dusky. She's an awful actress as well.

That reminds me, I can only take so much Snoop too lol. But I agree, there are nice quiet moments in there. I think some of it is not varying the interactions quite enough. I need some more Viki and Natalie, more Todd and Dorian, some if any of Viki and Nora, etc and more than 30 seconds of said interactions. They seem to have fallen into their plot partners now.

Yeah I don't hate it but I also don't want to spend 1-2 out of 4 episodes there, if that makes sense. I also need less of the drugs and sexual stuff. It's just not my thing. The dancing and music, sure, but cut the sleaze. Amen about Dusky, hot damn, BYE GURL.

I thought Gina had great chemistry with DG, actually. It was the most chemistry she had with anyone last time, and he was only with her for about three days.

But you don't need Kelly to do that story, or you don't need her for very long. Kelly is the white horse both Buchanan brothers have been chasing for decades, but ultimately she is a mercurial, deeply damaged person who is ashamed of herself, her family and doesn't want any kind of stability. She destroys herself and everything good in her life. But both Kevin and Joey are addicted to her. She's more powerful in her absence, a lot of the time.

I would love if they repaired Kelly.. and give Gina Tognoni some worthy storyline

It amazes me still, but to this day I still see plenty of comments on Hulu and FB asking where Rex, Gigi, etc. are.

I actually wouldn't have a problem bringing one or both of them on for a short-term appearance. I still think there's hay to be made of Rex having a small role in an arc with BE. Much was made on OLTL in 2011 of Rex being a completely incompetent amateur executive at the company, with Cord and Kevin chomping at the bit to get him removed before Rex finally relinquished control, and much has been made on OLTL today of Clint regretting his choices re: Rex, Shane, etc.

Clint and Rex did make amends and become a true father and son by the end of the ABC run. But that doesn't mean there can't be blowback and continued tension. I think a BE corporate intrigue story could do well if it turns out the weak link, or mole or whatever is Rex who's betrayed the company somehow, and Clint must deal with his illegitimate screw-up son in some sort of soapy, quasi-final way - Rex ends up running off with some of the Buchanan fortune or something. Then perhaps you could bring on Shane or whatever. But realistically I don't expect to see any of those characters back on a regular basis again, and that's probably for the best for most people. I was pretty fond of both Austin Williams and Farah Fath at times, but Shane doesn't absolutely need a major role on this show anymore (though I could see it, I'm not sure how that young kid would fit with these kids at all) and Gigi definitely never does again.

Kevin and Zane, OTOH, should be brought back immediately. Along with Rachel Gannon as Kevin's wife.

I can see Zane be a foil for Jack... I would love Rachel to return

I think the problem was that it was the worst possible time to have a bum week- the first set of four eps broken up over the two week schedule. It was like basically totally giving weight to all the people who were moaning that nothing would ever move with the 2 day schedule. I love the character stuff, and everything you referenced and have a high high tolerance for more character/less plot driven eps but even I felt let down once we finally got to what was supposed to be cliffhanger day today. And AMC seemed to really amp up some at the right time. That said, the next set of four over the next 2 weeks sound way better so hopefully most viewers are hanging in.

What did SOD say and in which section?

it was in the Comings and Goings, it mentioned PP (I think OLTL) trying to get an actress to return who was unhappy with her storyline when it was on ABC

I don't need Gina Tognoni to appear longer than a couple months at any moment in time. That's how over Kelly I am at this point.

I don't mind the drugs, sex, etc. OLTL is a darker, edgier show than AMC, always has been. I think it should be playing those angles and using that club, which is a great set. I do think the club could be cut down on a little bit, or we could see more of new locations like the Palace or the old Angel Square diner. I figure we'll be doing that soon; AMC has begun incorporating some new environments as well as it moves into Block 2 stuff.

yeah I mirror the whole bullying s/l to the Spring Fling s/l, if only the bullying was as good as the rape s/l, but it wasn't, maybe if Malone was still HW.. I always wonder how he would've written it

The emotional impact was removed when Gigi came back from the dead. At the end of the ABC series, I was left asking, "What was the point of all that?"

Additionally,Victor, the parent involved during the huge blow-up revolving that, was killed/disappeared/taken off as Jack's father...which served to lessen the scope of the story.

I felt let down due to the last two AMCs this week, which were particularly good, especially Wednesday's. OLTL was decent but it was not as good as those. I don't know how much of that is down to the writers, how much of it is down to writing around the Todds or whatever else.

The problem was that she ended up being made to look foolish during the time when she was trying to win Joey back. However, one bright spot of the Eli saga was that Kelly was written to be more of a darker, Dinah-type, which served Gina well.

I know... Ron didn't know what to do with her.. and I think Gina was playing Kelly more like Dinah

I know!!! I was such a waste, and of course we still didn't even know Jack's motivation for targeting Shane, at least Todd has a motive for what he did to Marty.. like I said I wonder how Malone would've written it

The only Rachel I'd want is Daphnee Duplaix. I think Ellen Bethea is out of the business and I'm not sure how she looks these days. Sight unseen I am willing to bet DD would do fine opposite DG. But I also can see PP going out and getting another Rachel.

Either way, these shows never do what I want so I'm not holding my breath on anything like that ever, ever happening at all. I'm just saying, if I had Twitter, or even less time on my hands, I'd be telling those PP people to bring back Kevin and Rachel as a tentpole interracial Buchanan-Lord-Hanen couple. And who knows, maybe if Kevin's eye wandered back to Special Guest Star Kelly sometime - his last temptation - Rachel could go all Mrs. Robinson on Jeffrey.

to me OLTL isn't as dark and edgy as people make it out to be..

I do hope we get other location soon..
