LOL... I understand what you mean. I really did like his plays from back in the day and even his earlier movies but I don't know... around 2007/8 or so I just started getting tired of all his tropes in his movies. Woman needs a man to bring her back from the brink, there is always an incestuous rape/molestation in said woman's past.... it just all got so tired. I actually LOVED the first Why Did I Get Married? movie but the sequel was so strange and bizarre. Especially the final 15 minutes. I had totally give up his movies after the mess that was Madea Goes to Jail (I abhor Temptation based off the synopsis alone). What keeps me tuning in is that I wanted to see how he would handle a weekly drama series. I love Tika Sumpter and I am genuinely interested in where Wyatt and Jeffrey are headed :P It hasn't gotten to the typical TP fuckery yet but I just know something crazy/strange/cruel/bizarre is on the horizon. It's just how he operates.

I knew from the commmercials that Mama Hattie was going to work my nerves. Haven't tuned in once!

Celine is a trip, so insane. "He doesn't like black women", rofl, the hell he don't, she has no clue who Jim was with when she was going on her deranged rant.

Amanda really played a dangerous game listening to Candace, that professor is crazy.

David knows that Hanna and Candace are related, this should be interesting.

so, from the Professor, are we suppose to assume Candace has earned her grades on her back too?

I don't know was funnier, the jealous rant Celine went on, or Hanna being promoted against her will to rule over a bunch of unseen "staff".

The police planted 2 kilos of coke on Benny? Geez...overkill much, David?

I thought this eppy was comparatively better than average. But then they spent the last ten minutes focused on Amanda.

Candace: "What do you see?"

Amanda: "A loser"

RIGHT! Her teacher shocked me bc when he told her to come back after 7pm, I thought he was going to try and have sex with her. Anyone else think she looked like Melissa Archer after that makeover? All she needs is the red hair.

ETA: Whoops, look like I should have stuck with my first instinct. Cant believe he came back and raped her in her home. Im glad they didn't show it. The scene they did show though went on way too long and was pointless. It added nothing to the plot and all I saw was some out of shape man rambling on

How does Jim not know that his new maid is Candace's mother? He had her investigated so that should have turned up

I cant with Selene's change in attitude. What was the point of having she and Hannah as good friends in the first few episodes. This is so bizarre. She needs to be smacked upside the head. I do say I get where she is coming from in terms of the promotion

Good twist with David setting Candace up. Too bad she wasn't in the car instead of sweet Benny. Good twist but stupid one. Obviously, Candace would realize that Jim played her and considering he is a judge, all she'd have to do is blackmail him by threatening to expose all his secrets if he didn't. David should have left this alone

"Are you telling me that she is a he?" LMAO laugh.png. If we didn't already know she had a baby, wouldn't it be a crazy twist if this was how we learned Candace was born a man?

Dang what doesn't he do?

That out of shape man rambling disturbed me so much. That long ass taunting scene was so unnecessary so I can just imagine how scary it would've been to see a long drawn out rape scene. That said I knew from the moment she got her makeover she would be getting raped. Tyler fell back on that whole dress like a slut mentality.

I think that TP having Amanda raped was either pointless or too soon. TP should've built this story up slowly and executed it down the road, some time near the season finale. He should've slowly had the professor come onto to Amanda for awhile to no avail, threaten and stalk her for awhile, and then execute. Personally, I hate that TP made this choice so soon because I would've spent this season building Amanda up with Candice's help then do the rape story s2. So many ways this story could've been executed but I'll watch and see how it goes.

See as many aforementioned, this is why he needs a strong soap writer to be his Co-HW. Why not try and get Susan Dansby from ATWT & YR seeing as she lives in the Atlanta area and she's an African American writer too. IMO, she could be one of many soap writers/aspiring soap writers he could reach out too.

Have and Have Nots have potential to be great but he needs a stronger writing and production staff behind him.

Yes Cheap! TP does it all, which is why this show will never meet its true potential!

The rape was too soon and God help this person who plays Amanda. If each scene on this damn show was not 9 minutes long, the story leading up to the rape could have played out over several eppies and not 1/2 an hour!

Now, things seem to be getting interesting, but I don't think I care :(

TP disgusts me!

    • Maeve makes a few sporadic appearances, but returns full-time the next spring/summer. She's back in time to see Bill and Michelle graduate, although she skulks around town and wasn't going to tell anyone she was alive. She comes back wearing this HUGE hat---which was a throwback to the old Vanesaa. lol.
    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.    Interesting, so I'm curious to see who they eventually pair Phillip with. They're flirting with a Phillip/Annie pairing, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route with the Jeva drama, her growing pill addiction, and Rick's past with her.  Ugh, yeah I'm so sad to see Bridget do a total 180 in the last couple weeks. She has always been a strong character from what I've seen, but now she's just bending over backwards to get Hart to love her and it reeks of desperation. Yeah, sure, this new Hart is eye candy, but I'm already tired of seeing Hart/Dinah have sex all over Springfield and the Cayman Islands haha.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
