March 15, 201312 yr Member The best camp is camp that is played straight. Ron is so busy guffawing at himself that everything seems fake and cloying, when it's not strangely bitter. It's also one-note and poorly acted. I think someone might have told him long ago that soaps are parodies. If he actually wrote straight drama, then he would be in a better place, as, once upon a time, he wasn't too bad at that. Bingo!
March 15, 201312 yr Member The show got WAY too dark in the last decade. Very little humor or fun to be found. Even if its not the best, I appreciate that its a bit more light hearted in tone and can be silly at times. But it's poorly done which, for me, defeats the purpose. For instance, I'm supposed to find humor in the same character who raped herself against a wall?
March 15, 201312 yr Member But it's poorly done which, for me, defeats the purpose. For instance, I'm supposed to find humor in the same character who raped herself against a wall? Or a character who raped two (or more) women. It's just not my style of comedy. It's mostly degrading and cheap and strange, or just dumb. LOLerskates at Todd saying "LL Cool AJ," or whatever he said. You can write comedy without believing your viewers are brain dead. Edited March 15, 201312 yr by CarlD2
March 15, 201312 yr Member What on earth is up with DanYELLa calling Todd like that? The show got WAY too dark in the last decade. Very little humor or fun to be found. We had what like a decade or more of darkness on GH, I love the lighter stuff so much.

Or maybe she has a mental disorderBut it's poorly done which, for me, defeats the purpose. For instance, I'm supposed to find humor in the same character who raped herself against a wall?I dont that scene in particular was done for humor but KS's performance was so bad, that she just came across ridiculous I dont mind RC attempting camp. My issue is that he takes it too far. Like the Lucy nonsense when she first saw John and stabbed him. I thought that was funny bc it was so over the top but it really should have lasted one episode. He went too far with it Edited March 15, 201312 yr by Cheap21

March 15, 201312 yr Member But it's poorly done (and sometimes) poorly acted, which, for me, defeats the purpose. For instance, I'm supposed to find humor in the same character who raped herself against a wall? Exactly, in the 80's I tuned in but mostly out of GH's campy storylines so I didn't see the alien and all that I can barely remember the Ice Princess. I can only do so much of it. then there is good camp and bad camp there are times where campy should "not be included" like the hee-hee ha ha with AJ and Carly kissing for Todd's benefit that (for me anyway) is a pivotal moment in their horrid history and for it to be played for sh...and giggles didn't work (for me) as an AJ fan so I didn't find it that amusing; I wanted him to smack the [!@#$%^&*] out of her.
March 16, 201312 yr Author Member I forgot to mention that I was glad they busted out Lucy's signature catch phrase "ta!" a few weeks ago.
March 16, 201312 yr Member Why isnt John digging into why he and Caleb/Stephen looked exactly alike? The premise which got him on the show was bc his father cheated on his mother and had a secret kid. Wouldnt the logical thing to think here is that his father was doing more cheating than he knew and had another secret child, one which looked like him? Why isnt anyone assuming that they are brothers?

March 16, 201312 yr Member Because that doesn't explain the Sam/Livvie connection either, I guess. thats irrelevant and its own seperate issue. John knew his father had at least one child outside his marriage. Its perfectly logical that he'd have another. It makes no sense why he hasnt thought of this or even seem to be too bothered with just fighting a man who looked exactly like him.

March 16, 201312 yr Member I dont that scene in particular was done for humor but KS's performance was so bad, that she just came across ridiculous. I'm not saying that scene in particular was humorous regardless of KS' performance. I'm saying Carlivati's use of that same character, after having her do something so dark in and of itself (let's stop acting like a woman raping herself against a wall is LESS dark than anything Guza's done all because it's NOT Guza) as a source of comedy is a horrible attempt at levity or camp. It's poorly executed because it's mixed messages. "Yes, we want you to feel compassion for this character by having her re-enact her rape... but then, two episodes later, have you laugh at her because she's a horny slut trying to sleep with anything that moves!" The writing of women during BOTH regimes is godawful and the humor is lost because it's poorly written! I mean, hello! Carlivati's take on the Carly character was to have her strip down to her bra and panties in the middle of the hospital during his first couple of episodes!

Not to mention how much sympathy the writing had for her rapist as he found love and kept insisting he wasn't a rapist.
