I said many times that ATWT would still be on air had they axed the vets; however, there are some exceptions such as Kay or back when Liz Hubbard played Lucinda on ATWT. These actors transend age, are generally involved with stories involving power dynamics and emotional warfare. To me, Kay may look like hell but she does not feel old like Days Alice Horton or ATWT Kim--earthy, mother-like characters. They are currently writing Kay old with her many health issues.

SF just let herself go with that bald head and bad limp. Also, her stories were stuck on repeat for the last 10 years. I think he interactions with Eric made he appear older and this was mainly when he left Donna which was just sexually unrealistic.

It all comes down to the nature of the character. I don't see Kay harming demos but SF scared anyone under 40 away.

Good to see the soaps having a really good couple of months to start the year.

DAYS has really picked up these past couple of months under the new group of writers, it started out really boring but the scheming by Nick has taken it a whole new level on this show.

I was actually worried about GH losing their momentum because people were trashing the vampire stuff when it started but it looks like people stuck with the show anyways and the vampire storyline has actually been written well. It was good to see a little mini-PC reunion on there.

Y&R has been real watchable, I don't keep up with it everyday but it hasn't been this watchable in like around 5 years. B&B is just a silly show but now that the triangle is over it might pick back up in the quality era but the show has been the most consistent numbers wise of the soaps since 2011.

I think it was more of a P&G problem for why GL and ATWT ended up being off the air they horribly mismanaged these shows for a long time to the point where CBS lost confidence in them. I agree about the vets too, its always good to focus on younger actors but the way the four soaps are doing it now is the way ATWT should've done it with a great balance.

I feel like ATWT and GL got cheated with the latter part of their runs and would like to see them get rebooted like AMC and OLTL are doing right now. I would love to see NBC get back to airing at least 2 soaps again and bring ATWT back.

ATWT and GL were killed because no one cared. If they hadn't had the vets they still would have been killed. They just would have been even more unrecognizable at the end.

I don't think Susan Flannery scared viewers away. The writing for Stephanie sucked, and had sucked for a long time.

That seemed to be the big difference in the ratings this week was the fact that usually President's Day is the highest of the week but for most of the soaps they stayed up the rest of the week and had a pretty good Friday so I think quality is playing a strong part here than in year's past where either a stunt, holiday, or weather would be the only way you see these soaps go up now they're up due to quality.

I know as a whole NBC is facing many many ratings problems across the board at this time.. but I just want to point out that Days of our Lives is currently getting higher ratings (at least in total viewers) than some of NBC's primetime lineup ( Do No Harm, Community, Parks and Recreation) Congrats to Days for staying strong and even growing when most every other aspect of NBC's programming is really hurting (all things primeitime, TODAY,etc)

No way DAYS jumps +288,000 for a normal week. There was no big revelation or a wedding or a conclusion to a storyline. Nick/Gabi's non wedding/Will is the dad secret coming out only got +209,000. DAYS they lost 126,000 last week, and when there's a 6 digit drop, there's usually an increase the week after. That and the assist from non-storyline related issue (ie the weather) helped with the unsual jump of 288,000. Same with GH. Nothing big happened to justify that big increase. GH dropped a lot last week. Now the show is back to normal numbers.

Yeah its very interesting that DAYS has now caught up to their prime time programming on Thursdays, that's pretty embarrassing on the prime time end but really great for DAYS. I remember somebody a couple of years ago who wrote an article predicting how valuable daytime properties like DAYS would become to broadcast networks as the prime time ratings continue to slip every week to new lows. I like the idea that a poster came up with earlier of NBC reviving their soap division and adding a new partner for DAYS.

That's why I believe its quality now, when shows are that watchable during filler weeks then the ratings for the shows start to get stronger overtime. Quality always works in the long-term and not the short-term, only stunts work in the short-term. Where the soaps have finally gotten smart at is realizing if they produce a quality soap instead overbudgeting on stunts during sweep periods then they can hold onto their new audiences and make them consistently coming back.

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
