I have to admit, as hungry as I am for information, I'm really glad PP is playing this close to the vest. I mean, we know a little bit based on audition scripts, but they've done a good job at keeping storyline details and spoilers to a minimum. That was honestly one of my main complaints about the final years of AMC on ABC - there wasn't a lot of incentive to watch it when you could read nearly everything that was going to happen in advance.

So... good job PP! I'm looking forward to being surprised!

Yeah, I don't think that would work unless in expert hands, and I wasn't calling for that. I feel like GL was kind of trying for a UK soap feel and didn't succeed. I was just using it as an example of how you can still have quite a few characters in a 30-minute soap.

I don't think characters are missing any more than on US soaps though. There are plenty of US soap characters who disappear for weeks (check the Airdates threads for the people at the bottom of the list). There's more of a sense of community on UK soaps despite some characters sometimes not being seen for awhile. Characters are also missing from family gatherings in US soaps too, except they're not even on the canvas so they will randomly get mentioned or not mentioned at a wedding or funeral, really hit and miss -- is that better or worse? On a UK soap they might be on the canvas but not always make it, but at least they are more likely to still be available to use and not just snuck in randomly as a mention. Also, in real life we don't see the same friends every day, and may go weeks or even months without having certain friends or family in our lives, but we have lots of people all the same who are part of our lives in that in and out way; the way EastEnders and Coronation Street are feels kind of like that to me.

Back to AMC specifically, I appreciated getting little hints of where the characters were. I don't want too many spoilers though. I almost thought Ryan Bittle was super confirming that Marissa had died, but then I realized he could be talking about Babe. If it was about Marissa, the way he talks about it, maybe she wasn't killed by JR in the shooting, maybe it was something else. I agree he seems to have a handle on JR, and so do the writers if that's how JR is being written.
