HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

No worries...I have decided to no longer post any Twitter or FB posts on here anymore. I'm done with that.

And this is not directed at you Steve...it's just a decision I have come to after reading trough this thread.

Awe, I'm going to miss those posts Scotty. sad.png I hate FB and miss a lot on Twitter since I'm not on there all the time. This is my one stop to see what's going on and what I've missed.

It's not like Shenell Edmonds set the bar all that high here. So I'm keeping an open mind.

Well she's quite different from Shenell. It's not too hard to believe that Destiny has lost weight since she had the baby.

My only concerns is

1) Hopefully she can act. Performance matters to me more than looks. I don't care if she is pretty if she's anything like SE who always sounded like she was reading her lines off cue cards then we're in trouble.

2) For all of SE's faults, her Destiny did have an air of innocence to her. I don't want this new Destiny to become the resident sex toy where every time you see her she's screwing someone. I want substance and depth added to the character.

Des was dropping the f-bomb in her audition sides. I actually hope they don't take it that far. I'd go with the level of language on FX or AMC but at this point, hearing the soap stars all curse like sailors on HBO would be a little comical.

FX/AMC etc have weird rules but are allowed to get away with one *f* word--occasionally (as Mad Man has--always used perfectly for the shock value). Of course that's an evening show. They also can show ass (I think that'sit for nudity) which of course pre-nipplegate a number of CBS daytime soaps experimented with.

Hey Jen, I've been so busy with Wicked that I just noticed your wonderful news! Let me know if you need Echo and a bad boy son ( Jake) to terrorize Lanview!!!! LOL! Good Luck!

Kim's in Wicked??

I dread the curse words because it typically sounds forced. I noticed on the Crystal Chappell websoaps it seemed more like cursing just to be cool and it came off so fake. It takes me out of the scene.

While there are no FCC rules that apply to content on basic cable networks, many basic cable networks self-regulate their program content because of viewer and advertiser expectations, particularly with regard to language and nudity. In recent years though, some basic cable networks have begun to relax their self-imposed restrictions, particularly late at night. Thus, programs like Comedy Central’s South Park often contain content deemed unsuitable for U.S. broadcast TV. Networks have recently aired R-rated movies, uncut, late at night. Other networks such as FX have begun to position themselves as a lighter version of premium stations by developing shows that attract such critical acclaim that sponsors will overlook controversial content for solid demographics. Turner Classic Movies (TCM), Independent Film Channel (IFC) and Sundance Channel are commercial-free basic cable channels that are uncensored and from time to time are known to show R-rated movies on their channel (which are far more prevalent on IFC and Sundance Channel, though all three channels do not use the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) ratings for any of its films, instead rating films using the TV Parental Guidelines) and films may feature nudity, sexual content, violence and profanity.

So I'm guessing the advertisers, if it came to be aired on TV would prob not want too much.

I wish they had gone the New York stage route, but really this is standard for castingyoung roles on soaps--and has been for about 20 years *even* the New York soaps which were a *bit* better at finding stage talent. It's what they do (besides which many of those young models go into it as a stepping stone to film work, and sometimes they actually are decent).

Anyway you said you weren't watching AMC, so no worries for you! ;)

I wasn't talking about AMC. I was talking about OLTL. Which, I do plan on watching.

But, it's pretty fucked up that they hire a hair model to play Destiny. Who is about the size of a stick, and light, bright, and damned near white. And, looks nothing like Shenell.

I can't get upset with them for hiring a model. Many, many people who became stars on their soaps started out as models and turned out to be good actors (Susan Haskell, Josh Duhamel, etc).

But many many more end up going the other way. Tragically for us.

Can we cut out the racist crap. She is black. Who the hell cares if her skin is fairer & maybe Destiny lost weight after Drew was born.. Also her being a model doesnt mean Laura cant be a good actress. How about giving her a chance before making up your mind. What a novel concept.

The light/dark thing is very real. We'll see if all the new black characters are cast this way. But since the original portrayer was dark skinned, I feel she should've been as well. I also would've attempted someone with at least a slightly fuller figure since that is how Destiny was always presented. It's basically a completely different character, but with the same name.

Thank you! What I said was not racist. What PP are doing is.

The industry has been like this for ages. And, just because I happen to be white myself. Doesn't mean I'm racist nor do I agree with the practice of switching from a dark skinned black actress to a light skinned one. It's just wrong.
