1of1 repackage might already be out!

And I know everybody has other things on their mind rn but... this is about Peniel of BtoB appearing on Hello Counsellor -- I thought it was quite heart-warming and life-affirming actually.

This week, BtoB has a comeback, I think.

I feel bad about posting this here -- Cheap, you must hate me for doing it. I mention it in case you feel like talking about it. Anyway, YG announced that 2NE1 have officially disbanded, Bom did not re-sign her contract with YG. And Nam Taehyun of Winner has been forced out of the group permanently.

Honestly, 2016 has been a sh!tfest.

2NE1 all but disbanded 2 years ago but YG strung the fans along making claims about a comeback and teasing when he knew that likely wasnt happening. Whatever.

Im bored right now anyway. Not even the awards shows peaked my interests since those I follow got the shaft

Im over it 2017 doesnt look too promising either with BIGBANG and 2PM about to go on hiatus bc of the military, Beast's status up in the air. I guess I at least have SHINee and BTOB if things dont crumble around for them as well

I know what you mean Cheap. But then this happens:

BB COMEBACK:

I think FXXK IT is a lowkey bop, and I like it.

Last Dance is a typical ballad from YG but Korea loves those ballads. Plus GD has never looked better as in Last Dance, and the final shot on TOP is very moving. I want to shave Taeyang's hair off tho. Ugh! Sort your hair out dude! Stop killing the hot!

It's been so long since I posted on this thread! I'm sorry!

I saw the 2ne1 goodbye song, I thought it was beautiful and it was very moving for me to listen. I really loved this group.

Not much to post although Twice released a new single and a co-ed group called KARD made their debut.

And TOP joined military training. And made his unit do this:

@Cat. I havent been in here much either bc I've gotten so turned off by all the bullsh-t that went don here. So far this year I enjoyed SHINee's Get The Treasure and entire Japanese "Five" album

This was on heavy rotation for me earlier this year.

BTOB's 10th EP was also good. Love the rap combo of Minyuk and Peniel in the second verse. Peniel really has improved quite a bit. I like BTOB so will continue to support them but man I friggin hate CUBE.

Highlight/Beast

@AllMyDaysatGH

They lost their legal battle and cant keep the name Beast. They were forced to change and they went with Highlight. Kind of a generic name which makes searching for them hard. To make matters worse, Hyunseung resigned with Cube and is rejoining Beast along with two new members for a trio. Who does that? The fans are not that stupid.

Anyways Highlight just released their first new music and I wish them all the success

Thanks for posting again on this thread...today was a sad day in my city, so it was a relief to read this and talk about something light.

Awww I've been feeling disillusioned with kpop too. And waiting for some good comebacks.

They will always be Beast to me! As long as they release some good music and keep enjoying their work, I will support.

I am going to call them HighBeast! Their new song sounds like a rookie song -- in a good way. It's catchy and I like it!

Hyuseung later denied it, didn't he? Who knows what Cube are thinking. Cube really are the worst (and in kpop that is saying something).

SHINee will be in the US very soon for their North America tour, are you going? I am falling in loove with old Shinee stuff at the momwnt (although I really liked their Japanese album and last comeback). I love 'Love Sick' from their Odd album (that album as a whole I really liked).

It's been a long time since I've posted in this thread. I am still keeping up with kpop tho.

Most recently, EXO released The War, their latest album and imo one of their best. Kokobop was their comeback single, but imo it is the weakest compared with other songs including The Eve, What U Do, Diamond, and Walk on Memories. What U Do (@6.06) and Walk on Memories (@23.48) are my faves:

This mv *shakes head* lmao.

In Beast related news, Hyunseung posted a long message/apology to fans about leaving Beast. The translation is kinda off but I appreciate his honesty and taking accountability for some of the things that happened, including his immaturity and low self-esteem:

@Cat You should have tagged me bc I would have been here earlier. Ive been listening to EXO as well but kept forgetting to post in here since I havent been into KPop much this year. Love The War. They continue their progression into more mature sounds. I love Ko Ko Bop. Its a nice little bop to listen to but IA that other songs on the album are better. Diamond, Going Crazy, Forever and Touch It are my faves. I noticed that Lay completely removed himself from this project. I dont get why they dont just officially split since he's already had one foot out the door for quite some time

WINNER

I love their new songs and find them to be better than the ones they released earlier this year.

Taeyang

He drops an album in a week and I cant wait

Yikes, sorry Cheap. I wasn't thinking and forgot to tag with my previous post.

I think with Lay, the hope is that the THAAD issue with China will clear things up and allow cross promotions for EXO and Lay in both China and South Korea. Right now Lay gets a lot of hate in China for being part of a kpop group. I miss him as part of EXO. However, it hasn't heavily detracted from my enjoyment of The War which, as you say, is a more mature sound.

I also love Love Me Love Me and think it is Winner's best song as a foursome. I am grateful that YG still needs them and allows them to compose and promote.

I hear ya about kpop being dull, I almost checked out until this summer when it seems a lot of solid comebacks happened. And I love Taeyang's teaser! He (and your fangirling of him!) brought me into kpop back in 2014!

Taeyang dropped his album and continuing with the trend in KPop, the best song wasnt picked as the single

@Cheap21

YG's decision not to drop the better singles for Taeyang's cb was a bad idea. I love Taeyang's solo work (Eyes Nose Lips is ICONIC) and as usual YG messed it up. Still, I love reading TY's interviews, he is really proud of this album, and the songs have meaning for him.

@Taoboi BoA is considered to be Korea's Beyoncé and is also huge in Japan. She's done some bops! I also like that she doesn't do cutesy little-girl stuff but instead puts together interesting performances which challenge her (she is pretty great dancer btw).

EXO had a repackage cb and Power is the single they chose to promote. I'm not crazy about the song in the context of their comic-book style mv, but when they perform it live with that awesome choreo, I enjoy it 1000% times more! Here is their comeback stage from yesterday. Kai's solo dance break is amazing!

    • Maybe because 60 Minutes has kept the same formula for almost 57 years? Usually, there is more than one interview/topic discussed, like a real magazine. Dateline, 20/20, and so many others have all fallen to the one-subject formula: True crime. I mean, I'm a Forensic Files junkie and loved original America's Most Wanted back in the day, but even I think the TV market has been over-saturated with all crime, all the time. There was still that element when these shows began, but they were a segment of an episode, not the entire episode. Maybe the audience is just getting bored with such a fixed formula. If stories were intermixed with crime, some feel-good segment, and maybe something to do with lifestyle/music/and yes, as much as I have come to hate it, political issues, maybe these shows could rally. As they are - again, minus 60 Minutes - they have become tired and predictable.
    • Interesting tidbit- Robert Newman (Josh) dated Jennifer Cooke (Morgan) when they first started on Guidling Light (it was reported in the press and I think they talked about it in interviews). I did see (as a young kid) Rita having a flashback about Roger's rape of her --and it was confusing as a kid because she was on the floor leaning against her bed and she looked like she was seduced by force and her dress was in disarray, her hair was mussed, make up was a bit messy, but she looked at him with fear, disgust and confusion but the camera was in soft focus (so I get why people may say it was romanticized)--and I remember asking what happened to her and told well she is having nightmares/flashbacks of Roger not being nice to her
    •   Like I said I wasn’t talking about characterization. It makes sense that Dani is in denial. However literally no one in the real world would accuse someone of faking a pregnancy. Why? Because it’s just not feasible. What is Dani supposed to expect from Hayley—that she’ll be hiding a pillow under her shirt 24/7? Come on. The accusation has no legs, and that’s exactly why nobody would ever go there. A far more plausible accusation—one that actually has been made for centuries—is that someone might lie about who the father is. Dani only vaguely hinted at that, but at least that angle would make some narrative sense. I’d go for a coworking space that would be home to these small businesses like Kat and Chelsea’s bag startup (the whole police station trope feels like copaganda to me)
    • I guess RTPP looked worse because it followed Another World, but it's a shame they didn't give it more time especially considering how the shows that were put on following it fared.

    • Durkin was awful. The writing did her no favors, but she was all wrong for the part, lacking the mix of mystery, steeliness, sorrow and hesitancy that defined Victoria. I still have the awful memory of Adam lugging her around like a rag doll. She looked much more like one of the Blue Whale dancing extras than Victoria. And her voice... Maybe I am too harsh. With that said, Curtis didn't seem as bothered. I see from a fan review mentioning Barnabas & Company that Durkin was asked to return for Victoria's final episodes and declined as she had a Christmas trip to Europe with her husband planned and wasn't interested in just a few appearances.  I refuse to believe Victoria actually died during the Leviathan storyline. If Barnabas and Angelique could come back 8 times, she could come back a few.
    • It's a shame she only appeared in three episodes for the purpose of being written out - I thought she was quite good in the little we saw. I liked her vibe better than Durkin that never seemed to quite capture Victoria as a character.
    • He did a lot of romance novel covers, so that might've just been enough for them to get their panties in a twist.
    • Pre-TGIF, ABC most successful 1980s Friday 8 pm comedy I'd say was Webster. Full House wasn't a hit its first two seasons but it started showing growth in its third season which overlapped with the launch of TGIF. Funny thing is, Full House became a Top 10 show with the 1991/92 move to Tuesday.
    • Oakland Tribune, 14 July 1985   AW is another show with Schenkel at helm By Connie Passalacqua For the most part, dictators of South American banana republics enjoy better reputations than executive producers of daytime soap operas. Total authority is vested in these producers, who can kill off a character (thus firing an actor) with a stroke of a pen, or completely change life in his or her soap opera dominion (both in its fictional locale and backstage at the studio) on any kind of whim.  Most rule despotically, inspiring fear in their actors and writers. Which inevitably surfaces on the screen and subtracts from a show's quality. Then there's Stephen Schenkel who became executive producer of Another World last fall. He's been described by one of his actresses as "a teddy bear." He has noticeably improved the show, mostly because his natural warmth encourages backstage cohesiveness, and he believes in personally nurturing his staff and cast. 'I like to be supportive', he said.' I like to generate a certain amount of enthusiasm. I love actors and writers and technical people. And I like to laugh..  ' Schenkel said that most of the factors that have led to the shows improved ratings existed before he took over. There were well defined characters, outstanding writers and excellent production values, he explains. 'These things were in place but needed to be stimulated. There wasn't a lot of excitement. What really was missing was an adequate story. We added Gillian Spencer as a writer. (she also plays Daisy on All My Children), who's wonderful, and it just coalesced. The writers energy and commitment to the show began to give it an emotional intensity and some real passion within the characters." Schenkel, a former ABC programming executive who helped develop Ryan's Hope, is a strong believer in stressing romantic and comedy elements in soap operas. AW is also one of the only soaps with an established group of comic characters, including Wallingford (Brent Collins) and Lily Mason (Jackee , Harry). Schenkel raves about the talents of all his actors, and even has something good to say about the Brooklyn location of the shows studio, which most of his Manhattan-oriented staff loathe. I like the people here. I like to walk down the street and feel their energies, he said. He also violateda soap opera no-no, ' inviting actors and writers to the same party. "Everyone got to know one another, he said. And I didn't get any complaints about actors ' begging for story lines, he said.
