GH Promo: 50 Shades of Romance!

I am glad I'm not the only one. The popularity of this book escapes me. It's actually what I would classify as just cheap erotica which are available at a dime a dozen.

I bought it earlier this year when I was traveling. I figured it would be a nice way to kill time. I ended up reading the Skymall magazine instead. The thing I hate is that this book is the first introduction a lot of people are getting to fan fiction. I read (and write) fanfic. I've read some wonderful stories by VERY talented writers. Stories that were far more worthy of being published in the mainstream than that dreck or its source material.

The fact that the promo monkeys at ABC/GH think that the "50 Shades" angle is clever shows, IMO, just how out-of-touch and derivative they are.

The book surpassed the last Harry Potter book in sales in the UK to become the largest selling book there. I read about the first 1/4 of the book and put it aside. IA that it read like bad fanfic.

There's something insanely meta about GH doing a promo based off a overrated book which was a rehash of lousy fanfiction based on a series of other poorly-written books about a pathetic young woman in slavish thrall to an overbearing, moody, emotionally-stunted as$hole.

You're right, but I'll bet nobody at GH even realizes it.

I find it absolutely terrifying that it not only got published but is selling. I can rationalize it when crappy movies do well because they're usually big budget blow'em up action-fests that look and sound cool in a theatre but these books have absolutely nothing going for them at all. There is well written stuff out there in every genre, including fanfic and erotica, there's no need for anyone to torture themselves with the demon spawn of the Twilight dreck. The only entertainment value here is in making fun it. ELJ's mind-numbing repetitiveness also makes for a decent drinking game but that's it.

No doubt they actually think that this promo is the cleverest thing evah!

Half the woman at my work are reading this crappy book in during slow times on their shifts and from what they've described to me it's nothing I wanna read. Now my mother is reading the book just because people told her too( she didn't know about the really nasty scenes until I told her). I read an excerpt of the book and it didn't seem sexy to me.
