All Soaps: Teen Scenes

  • Members

With summer just around the corner and our remaining shows beefing up their younger sets, I wanted to start a thread on teen storylines. What were your favorite stories and sets of teens? Feel free to post clips or rant about how much you hate teens on soaps.

My Favorites

1. GH- Lucky/Liz/Emily/Nik- 4 strong actors with solid friendship chemisty. Beyond the L&L2 sweet romance and Emily's crush on Nik, you had the brothers dynamic, Liz & Emily as close girlfriends and Lucky & Emily as longtime friends played by actors who had been in the parts for years. They were tied to and interacted with famiilies and characters outside the teen storyline. Teen scenes don't get much better.

2. Will/Gwen- ATWT- Before they became all about serial killers and infertility at 20 and other crises, this was a strong couple played by two solid actors. I loved the early days and the build from friendship to romance. I'm a sucker for us against the world couples and for the first year, they were fantastic. Its a shame Jen Landon isn't a bigger star.

3. Last Blast crew on days- Yes they ate the show and yes it was campy and silly but I loved this crew. Probably because I was right around their age. Unlike my first two, this one doesn't hold up as well but I remember being obsessed and waiting all year for summer when I knew they would be on pretty much everyday.

Honorable mention- the Glow by Jabot crew on Y&R (Billy, Mac, Raul, Brittany);

Dishonorable mentions- every AMC teen set post Jenny & Greg. Also I could never get into Starr/Cole.

Days-

1. I am going to say Austin/Sami/Carrie/Lucas, but thats odd to me because they never felt like a teen scene, and thats why they are number one IMHO. They were written as good as the adults, they had adult stories that worked for them as a younger set. I hate it when the show focus' in on highschool and becomes an afterschool special. And the fact that all 4 are still around today, played by the same actors, is telling (even if Sami is the only consistant, non recasted one).

2 and 3 is a toss up for me, based on writing and impact on other stories it would be the Saved by the Belle crew, but the actors in the Chelsea/Steph/Morgan set were much better and were also better woven into the show and not so isolated.

For me this is a no brainer:

AMC

Greg, Jenny, Angie, Jesse, Liza, Tad, Amanda Cousins, and I am sorry to say I forget his name the brainy nice friend of Tad who had black hair and glasses.

The only one I ever really liked was Bridget/David/Kat on GL.

Looking back at the old episodes, I can see the appeal of Angie/Jesse/Liza/Greg/Jenny, but they don't feel like teens to me.

My favorite was GH's Four Musketeers.

I enjoyed Glow by Jabot even though they all felt too old to me.

Well they weren't played by teens but they were high school students.

I know what you mean, I just don't quite see them as being in that teen group. They had innocence and charm but I saw their ages as more nebulous.

Then you have teen groups like GH where Nik looked about twice as old as Emily...

Nik always looked like he wanted to be somewhere else doing something or someone else, no matter what was going on. It was distracting, to say the least.

I liked CSM Nik better and he looked younger

The only once I liked was the one on DAYS circa 2006-2007 but I'm not even sure if that was actually a teen scene cuz I think that was more the college age scene

I'll say it but OLTL has never had a good teen scene.Nothing stands out as memorable and they've all sucked ass, especially the last set, which was their biggest attempt at making one happen.

Two of my favorites:

He looked like he was the wrong race. Thats what always bothered me about him as a recast

Agreed on OLTL. They tried to build one around ET's Jess and while I liked her in Buchanan family stuff and with Viki, I never liked stories centered on her. I loved Ali and Jamal on PC and was so sad when they broke them up. I'v heard mixed reviews of the Jagger/Karen era on GH- perhaps I'll have to check them out on Youtube.
