Unpopular Opinions: 2012 Edition

I'll go first:

B&B

- While not perfect, the show is currently in the best shape it's been in since 2003.

Y&R

- Genie Francis is terrific as Genevieve Atkinson. I know she wasn't well liked in her first few months on her show, but I'm currently watching June 2011 episodes and I LOVE her campy take on the character, despite the overall wretchedness of the storyline. Although I never saw Francis on GH, so I don't have that to compare it to. I'd love to see her on B&B in a Sally Spectra/Jackie Marone type role.

- Phyllis is one of very few characters to actually flourish under MAB (save for the Lucy custody madness). And of course, I still consider La Stafford to be the best actress in daytime.

- Maura West was AT LEAST as miscast as Diane as Shari Shattuck was as Ashley.

Yeah, they sure did. They also enabled them. It's a wonder any of them made it out alive.

There's a current cast member who is as bad as Kanan who has gotten by with it.

Ooooh, who? I think I know.

Not sure how anyone feels about this, but there is no way in Hades I would have cast a corpse like Emily Van Camp as the lead in a show like revenge. No way!

I think that one belongs in the other unpop opinion thread that has the primetime shows.

Not surprising. How else does she keep that negative 2 frame? At one point, she looked so skeletal!

Well, this tells me that Sean Kanan did more to piss ABCD/GH off than just being a drunk if crackheads are allowed to stick around and thrive. I'm more interested in knowing what he did rather than who the crackhead(s) is/are (as 'crackhead' can apply to plenty people).

I just heard that Sean Kanaan was really unprofessional in that he didn't always show up and when he did, he made a scene.

He is very open and honest about his past. He was an alcoholic who would show up to work hungover or drunk and he got a DUI either while he was on the show or shortly after. He lived a party hard lifestyle tried some drugs. But no worse than Kemo or KS.

I heard that as well.

Those who were doing coke were there. They may have been high, but they were there. The old rumors about GM allowing coke on the craft table may have been even more reason to be there.

Drunks are a lot less manageable. They tend to have time/space problems.

Some have put some primetime soaps here too, so it could still work here (and I allow other daytime shows besides soaps in my thread too smile.png ).

Anyway, here's one that will leave people wanting my head examined:

It took time, but KA's song "One Life to Live" grew on me. I actually kind of enjoy listening to it, and despite the corniness of having Starr sing a prayer to God after the prison break, I think the song actually worked for those scenes. Or I was overwhelmed because it meant there was only one week left. Take your pick. I do think it was a nice love letter to the show, though.

And while I definitely agree that "Jailbait" was cringeworthy, my biggest problem was more of her still looking so young to me. I'm two years older than her, so to me it seemed more like I was watching my younger sister there. And that made it really uncomfortable for me. On the other hand, knowing Starr wrote it means she kept some of her edge, I guess laugh.png .

Another theme song one:

I LOVE the final Edge of Night theme from 1984.

I get that, but I'm cynical enough to wonder if he'd really done something beyond the pale or if KM has gone above and beyond to ensure that she remain a network favorite in spite of her (alleged) drug use.

Or I was overwhelmed because it meant there was only one week left.

That was the only reason why I didn't clown it as much as I did with the OLTL musical extravaganzas.

Uh, yeah! I'm done with you! I hate EVERYTHING KA! She's weak in all areas and not even attractive. I will stop here because I just had some cookies.
