I Watched the 1977 Episode last Night. Loved it!!

I started watching GL in 1979, so this was a treat For me. Characters actually had

conversations without screaming & yelling in every scene, like it is today. Loved seeing Bert & Holly together

in a scene talking, also loved the scene with Justin & Sara making a Apple Pie. The Dobson's were great

headwriters.

There were 5 great episodes on this DVD release, I wish there would have been more Episodes, like 10

or 15. Hopefully there will be a volume 2 & 3 Dvd for Phillp Spaulding. Thanks Soaps Classics!!!

So glad you enjoyed it. The Spaulding/Marler set up was so strong it sustained through multiple head writers before Phillip finally learned the truth.

Too bad a lot of consistent footage doesn't exist of the Dobson's era. I think that may be my favourite era of the show that I wasn't alive to see (purely from reading recaps of course)

What years did the Dobsons write of GL?? I liked that the 1977 episodes had the long credits. It is interesting that GL's cast was rather small in 1977.

That's incredible. I had no idea Papa Bauer's funeral episode was still around. And I'd never seen that photo before either.

Ed speaks and Mike sings. Starts off with Bert and Meta. Janet and her mom have a scene. Ed/Leslie/toddler Rick. Elissa Leeds as Hope. The closing was my avatar and opening is the blue lighthouse.

I'm in shock...total shock. Guess what I am doing first thing when I get off work...getting the credit card and ordering this set. Getting Papa Bauer's funeral on DVD amazing.

I found that in a box and then checked the museum archive and couldn't find it. It may have been out there somewhere but I had never seen it so was thrilled. Love digging up buried treasure.

I'm sure it may have been around, but the only scraps I've seen of this era on Youtube was the short clip with Joe fighting in Sara's attic. I'm glad someone saved this, as Papa Bauer was so integral to the early success of GL.

The Soderbergs wrote this and then a few years later wrote Grandpa Hughes' funeral on ATWT.

Great interview. I hadn't thought about the switch from Dobsons to Marland and how this affected Katie's character. It's great that she still remembers so many details.

I wanted an episode from Santo Domingo that was different that Roger's death or any clips on YouTube. Was originally hoping for Rita post-kidnapping but Lenore was just doing scenes here and there and the overall episodes weren't as strong. And some episodes had music because of the disco (forget its name). In this 1980 ep, Mike and Ed arrive, meet with Christina, while Roger and Holly are doing their thing.

She talks about it more in Part 2 but I think Katie was one of the characters Marland didn't "get" or he didn't want to write for her as she was. She had a chance to go to ATWT with the Dobsons...

When Denise was on the show, she did some murals in one of the green or break rooms, I think involving cast photos. Apparently those stayed up years after she was gone. I wonder whatever happened to them or if there were any photos of them.
