I think that's a lot of it. I also think she very believably played mental traumas - Lesley often seems to be having a mental breakdown but it's never treated as something shocking or horrifying or "soapy."

I do think she works better with Michael Gregory than Chris Robinson.

Monica's secret was that she only married Jeff because Rick didn't want her. Jeff and Monica were supposed to be the ideal couple (they even came into the hospital winning a "Mr. and Mrs. Doctor" contest, or something), but she had no real love for him. When Rick came back from the dead, she was obsessive over him, and Jeff was very hostile and jealous. I think she even convinced Rick that Jeff was beating her. Jeff attempted suicide.

Oh wow thanks. Why didnt she and Rick get together after they divorce? How did Alan enter the picture? Did she love Alan when she married him?

Its too bad the show never brought Jeff back. Especially with Monica's contempt and hate for Elizabeth. I think the dynamics betwee the 3 could have been interesting

The show should still bring Jeff back - while I have come to appreciate what I've seen of RDA's work, he could easily be recast.

Rick and Monica did have an affair, I believe, but Monica's schemes and Jeff's turmoil were a big drag, and Rick's growing feelings for Lesley (who was a good person and always had traumas) won out.

I'm not totally sure how long she'd known Alan. I think Alan came to work at the hospital and Quartermaine business began to follow. She and Alan weren't in love - at least she wasn't with him. She was trying to get over Rick. They seem happy in the November 1978 clips I've been making my way through, but her friendship with Rick is still prominent, which would then boil over into an affair again.

Alan came on in late 77.When Doug Marland took over he said he couldn't quite work out where Alan and Monica were doing. They were involved in hospital business and always at odds and he wasn't sure if they liked or hated each other. So he had them go to bed together as a prelude to building the relationship.

You've probably already seen all of this, or know about it, but these are some clips of the time period when Rick/Lesley were close to being married, and Patsy Rahn was still playing Monica. These go through some of 1977. There are 23 parts.

This is fairly early on for Alan - so much so that Michael Gregory is still playing Rick.

This is when Bobbie instigated a fight with Laura in the bookroom. I have to say I enjoy Bobbie a lot more as a bitch than as a heroine.

This starts up a lot of stuff from November 1978, with many characters.

I would love to see the entire Heather story - it went on for years and years, with three very different actresses, as Heather went from being a confused, suffering girl to a sociopath.

I'd also love to see the entirety of when Monty took over and what she dumped - she even had them building the sets during taping, and just said it was hospital renovation.

If they won't bring back Jeff they should at least bring back Terri as some sort of mentor figure for the Webbers.

This Afternoon TV from August 1971 has some very quick synopses for one week, from the ABC Press Department. I guess this would be around April or May.

Monday - Peter tells DIana that Harold is improving

Tuesday - Brooke tells Jane that Lee is very depressed.

Wednesday - Jane confides to Lucille that she and Howie have quarreled.

Thursday - Audrey fears that Tom will upset the divorce hearing.

Friday - Audrey and Steve plan their future.

    • The thing with Martin (for me) is that he should have been Anita and Vernon's kid. I honestly think he would have been fine being an older or younger brother to Dani and Nicole. It also would have made his relationship and kids feel more realistic. A handsome salt and pepper late 40s/early 50s congressman who settled down and adopted kids to fit an image for politics. Not that he didn't want this lifestyle but it is what he needed to do to get ahead. Also, we don't often get older characters playing LGBT roles not just on daytime but across most media. It would have been a refreshing take. As an alternative, Sam and Ty could have been Martin's kids from an earlier marriage a la the NJ governor that was outed. We could have also seen parallels between Vernon and Anita thinking back to how they handled Martin coming out compared to the way they accepted Chelsea.  As for Martin being Nicole and Ted's kid, I do wish in this case he was not tied to a marriage and kids, so that he could date and sleep around like any other character on a soap.  Yeah, I didn't get it...but what I did get is that girl is a bit crazy like her mama.  Vanessa and Joey talking about the poker table...get these people off my screen.

    • Unpopular opinion, but I didn't think the show should have reunited Billy/Vanessa at all until the final stretch of the show. When watching the 1989 episodes when both Vanessa and Billy return after being off the show... I liked that Vanessa had moved on from him and that the show was hinting at her wanting to reunite with her first love Ross while looking down at Nadine for being the one Ross was dating.  And I loved the twist where Billy and Nadine teamed up to keep Vanessa/Ross apart.   This was an interesting concept that sadly the writers dropped with the show deciding to make Vanessa pine over Billy between 1990 and 1993 when they finally reunited.   To me, Vanessa pining over Billy seemed out of character. At least once Billy was carted off to prison in 1994... she and Billy divorced and stayed divorced until the final months when they finally found their way back together.  During the years when they were divorced, I liked that they had maintained a friendship and connection.. with viewers (like my late mom) wondering if they would ever decide to make it work again. I wish the show had tried that with Josh/Reva because by the time of the final episode when they rode off into the sunset, I didn't care because we'd been through the make up and break ups between them for over 10+ years by that point.
    • I break down the primetime soap era (start of Dallas to end of Knots Landing) as  Up to Spring 1982: Building the foundation. Fall 1982-Spring 1985: Peak. Fall 1985-Spring 1988: Tanking. Fall 1988 onward: Off the rails plus budget mode. Of course individual shows vary and I've broken down each show in their threads.
    • I’m ready for Portia and Curtis to divorce and get it over with. Portia cheating with Isaiah would make for a fun love quadrangle with Jordan.

    • They didn't need to have some slutty gay dude as their representation. Just a 'normal' guy getting involved with another guy or two (or three). Just like the straight characters. Thinking about it, they missed the boat by not having a few other single charcters at the beginning. Maybe Naomi or Ashley could be shown meeting Derek/Jacob and  we could follow their romance. Too many characters were coupled up at the start. As a tattoo hater I was surprised to see Tomas so inked. Don't find it attractive or sexy. I'm surprised an actor would do that as it's definitely a statement and may not be appropriate for some roles. Suppose they can cover if necessary. I didn't buy Kat being all girly and then paying off Darius to get into Eva's room. Way too cliche. She should have just come along when the housekeeping was leaving and breezed in saying it was her room. And her smug looks in the hotel room and 'Now I've got you!!' talks to herself at Orphey Gene's...no.
    • Omg I was so annoyed. Like girl calm down. Coming on way too strong. Omg I forgot about this
