Sly Eckart & Elizabeth Webber would be a curious pairing. Perhaps if Jonathan Jackson came back for more frequent stints, they'd be a fun love triangle between the three.

I have talked forever how I wanted Sly back. I am always curious why he wasn't brought back once during the Emily/Nik/Lucky/Liz era. I think I would have paired him with Emily back then though. The Eckerts were long gone, but perhaps the memory of the failure of the family was still fresh enough that Riche/Guza didn't have much interest.

I do wonder if a Sly/Jenny/Julia reappearance would have worked in 2014-2015. It would have been interesting to see what happened to them while they were off screen. Well, as interesting as Jenny could be lol. They made her ex-husband a whole serial killer so she probably would have been useful in that dreadful story. I don't recall if the show ever said much about Paul/Jenny's child together. Wasn't it a boy? And I was also under the assumption Paul/Jenny raised Sly after Bill's death as well.

A Julia return has always been on my list. There were/are a lot of places a high-powered businesswomen that was always unlucky in love could have fit long term. Julia swooping in and taking over the Metrocourt would have been fun. I think Julia still had enough tethers to the canvas at the time even without Brenda, and Brenda was around recently enough where could have used her as a reference point to build new relationships. Of course, I am not sure CC would have even interested. The show could have recast though.

It was, and they've never said much.

IIRC Luke and Laura raised Sly as Lucky's brother for a couple years. He was a family fixture. Then he faded out around '96 or '97 and I think they probably said he went to live with Paul and Jenny. I don't know if he got an onscreen exit, I doubt it. He did have regular interaction with Lucky, Emily, etc. right to the end. I think he was gone before the Webber sisters arrived.

I would happily have Julia appear if Brenda and Alec returned. I don't know if I'd make her a contract player again though, be it Crytsal Carson or anyone else.

My initial idea for Sly 20+ years ago was for him to return as a young man bitter about the Spencers' perceived abandonment of him. He would return to town seemingly eager to return to the family fold but he would actually be Helena's mole for the Cassadines and her latest scheme. Then he would reconnect with the family, get close to Carly and Lucky and of course recant his ways after disaster struck. I had no idea who I'd put him with.

Today I'd just be happy to see him for an appropriate arc, short and to remind Laura, Lucky, etc. of the good times. I suppose a fling with Liz or someone else could work. Josh Kelly could've easily played Sly in much the same role Cody has now tbqh.

Greg Vaughn would be a fun idea for casting as Sly. Would bring out the more bitter cynical part that he played quite well at times with his Lucky.

He's busy.

@DRW50 will be surprised to note that Melissa Hayden from GL can be spotted as "Mouse" in fall '89 episodes. I had no idea she was on the show, I think Mouse was a recurring player.

Oh, yeah, Josh Kelly would have been a good Sly. I also don't recall Sly being around by the time Elizabeth and Sarah appeared. I don't remember an exit either. For some reason I had it in my head that Paul/Jenny took him in.

I agree that Julia isn't really necessary without Brenda. I just like her more than some of the current players in that age range lol. I think her history works better with the business stories they play. She would never been onboard with Deception being sold on the bootleg home shopping network and laugh at Carly/Olivia running a hotel, for example.

Speaking of intimacy: I was poking around in fall '89 and was startled to see Bobbie and Ruby sit down the day after Tony's proposal and have Bobbie express qualms about the marriage as she basically says they've never been physically intimate together, just 'best friends.' Did Tony just spring this on her without them being officially romantically involved before then?

I wasn't aware of this! It feels like something the writers could have played during any of Bobbie and Tony's estrangements, the question of what was the foundation of their marriage, anyway? Did stability, trust, etc. trump intimacy?

Maybe I misinterpreted it? Bobbie and Ruby have the conversation literally the day after the engagement. I have no clue if Tony and Bobbie were officially involved before this or if Tony just floored her with the proposal.

Ruby does tell her friendship trumps sex, and that passion will come later. I would assume that if they hadn't done the deed before it was settled in the ensuing month surrounding the wedding and honeymoon - I am watching that stuff now.

I think you're right about Tony and Bobbie not having been intimate yet. I guess Tony was sort of on the same page as the viewers, who had been watching this unofficial courtship play out for a year.

It is genuinely surprising. You don't hear of something like that often in this day and age. But it does lend credence to how often they always called each other 'my best friend' right to the end, on Tony's deathbed. He called her that there. But I do think they clearly became compatible lovers.

Also of note: During her pre-wedding tiff with Tony, Bobbie apparently went to visit Luke and Laura. When she comes back to GH Amy asks how they are.

Was Lucky named yet? In 1986, on her wedding day with Jake, Bobbie gets greetings from "Luke, Laura, and baby."

No idea. I didn't dig that far back in '89. I thought Laura named the baby Luke Jr. or something (which they later called Lucky) in the '84 story but I could be wrong.

No worries. Well, wish me luck, everybody -- I'm about to begin my dive into The Decline and Fall of the Monty Empire (i.e. 1986 episodes).
