She was back maybe a month or two later as Tony prepared to exit. Laura knew Lucky was in danger and had come to warn Luke. They found Ethan also in trouble along the way. The story was dreadful, as was Tony having spent years at that point vetoing a reunion with Laura. RC got a little of his own back about that, I think, by having Luke leave Laura a mysterious letter when he left town - in typical GH form, to this day I don't think we know what it said.

I was also keen to see them. But like you, I had wanted Sly to come back long before. I'd once wanted him to be a Cassadine mole in the early 2000s, embittered that the Spencers had 'forgotten' him lol, but that was back when he was still very young and I don't think that would make sense today. It would be nice to just see him.

Is it really any worse than Lucky or Stone or Jagger?   Everyone had dumb nicknames in the 90's.

Do people really still write letters?  Brenda had an unread letter to Sonny.  Luke has an unread letter to Laura.  Read your mail people!

It always seemed strange they never brought Sly back.  The kid that played him was decent too.

I loved Karen.  That was my first soap teen scene when I was a teen and I loved all those characters.  In hindsight, Karen could be very annoying.  I still think it is a shame they killed her on PC.  I liked that ultimately she and Brenda were no longer rivals.  They may not have been best friends, but a lot of growth happened, especially when Brenda figured out that Karen had been molested.  I give Vanessa a lot of credit for playing into more vulnerability than just going vixen which is where the show tried to put her back then.

Part of Tony’s anti Luke stance when Bill was created was because back then he didn’t want to do Luke unless Genie was Laura.  And she refused to return for at least a year after ABC terminated her contract on AMC, and told her they would prefer she return to GH as Laura.

I remember Bill being a ridiculous failure because of all the work they did to try to make him work.  Every struggle was right there on screen.  I didn’t even hate the final version, the dark, selfish character he was by the time they killed him off.  It was just a long winding way to get there and it wasn’t good television.

I think Bill being Fluke not only made more sense in the story they were telling, but also would have been more fun overall.

TG can be incredibly annoying, but I loved the shade he threw on his way out the door.  I remember him saying how stupid Ron’s Frank Smith story was.  He even said something like Frank was old even back in the 70’s, him being alive at that point was beyond ridiculous.

Sly went through a good amount of angst in a nearly three-year period. Bill and Nancy's divorce, the family all uprooting to Port Charles, grandpa Fred dying, his mother Nancy dying (at the hands of beloved housekeeper Finian), Bill's relationships with Julia, Holly and Victoria, Scotty being a better father than Bill was, Bill leaving him with Jenny and Paul for increasingly longer stretches and Bill finally dying. I'm just saying, soap "bad boys" have been built on far less.

Also, if Claire Labine hadn't already done the rich girl/poor boy thing with the dogs, Annabelle and Foster, she could have easily done it with Emily and Sly.

I think it was a huge mistake to kill Karen off.  She would still be a viable character today.  I can see the appeal of her and Jagger as well.  She was just whiny to me lol. I did like when her and Brenda became friends.  Karen was pretty forgiving because Brenda did some crappy things to her.

That was my exact thought.  Sly could have filled the Zander role.

I don't have any desire to see Jenny Eckert again, but I do think both Julia and Sly could add something to the show and still be viable these days. Like you said, there's the business angle, along with everything involving Sonny and Brenda (even though she's offscreen). Besides those two, she has relationships with Ned and Scott. I think last we heard she was friends with or friendly with Lucy. She knows Mac, Felicia, and I think Anna and Robert. There's some stuff they could work with. Like Vee mentioned, she always fit right in when she popped in during the Guza days so it's a shame they never circled back to her.

Sly could easily be filling any of these nobody guy roles they have on the show- Roger Howarth's character, Chase, Brando, etc. I think he'd be a better love interest for Liz and Maxie than the ones they have too.

For whatever reason, GH has a lot of characters that are basically gold mines with family ties or connections just sitting offscreen. There's heaps of untapped potential in a lot of those characters but they'd rather focus on Willow, Sasha, Brando, Roger Howarth's latest role, Harmony, whoever. It's baffling.

It goes deeper than that with Genie, I believe; that part is an old story that was known even in the '90s. Genie's behavior later was not exactly blameless. But I think mostly it's about him and his resentment of Luke and Luke and Laura.

I still can't tell Willow or Sasha apart. I don't know who Brando or Harmony are at all and I don't think Chase is particularly interesting. People act like I'm crazy.

I'd rid of all of them in a heartbeat if I was in charge. Willow and Sasha are interchangeable from what I could tell. There's got to be some 20 or 30 something year old girl out there in GH history they could bring on to date Michael that's not one of these two duds. Chase is fine I guess but there's no reason for him to be getting so much story while Lucky and Dillon are MIA.

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
