Meh brand or not, might as well change it, it won't affect the network any. They're branding themselves as something they're not and haven't been in over a decade

If it wont affect the network, then why bother changing it at all? Why is it such a big deal to people?

LOL exactly. MTV is a pop culture name its not like Sci Fi or TNN.... not to mention stuff like the MTV Video Music Awards. There is no reason to change it, and I don't understand why some people are so angry over it.

I dont think they spend much time caring that former people, likely outside their demo, complain about the lack of music.

And they shouldn't, its not Music Television anymore, and hasn't been for years. Its officially just MTV. It doesnt stand for anything. Its just the brand of the network, movie studio, publication house, etc..

People who keep talking about that really need to get over it arleady. Its not called Music Television Network, its MTV. Thats simple enough to understand. Most of the people that keep complaining about this arent even watching or supporting it anymore so their opinions are irrelevant to those in charge over there

+1.

Never mind the fact that MTV still does have a heavy focus on music. They air videos, during the non-music programming, they have captions at the bottom of the screen to tell you what songs are playing in the background, there are videos all over the website, and their news division covers mostly music news. It's the formula that's working for them now, and they're smart to keep with it.

If MTV shouldn't care about people who wish the channel had more music, then why should they keep the name, as the brand was built based on music?

I just don't see why, if, as many have claimed, MTV is doing better than ever because they no longer have music, why they'd even want to keep the name. They could easily take on another name and be bigger than ever. Otherwise they seem to want it both ways. It's tough to say, well, the channel is so much better and stronger now without music, and then say, we need to keep that M, because otherwise people will be confused. Will the latest Jersey Shore punchfest impress viewers any less with a different name?

Bc its their name. It represents their history, their accomplishments, their success. 30 years is quite a big deal and that all happened as MTV. I can see why they would NOT want to change it. MTV is bigger than that and there is no reason to change it.

Will the latest Jersey Shore punchfest impress viewers any less with a different name?

Will it impress viewers more? Its not like they would get a huge bump in popularity, ratings, etc... if they changed their name

Im currently working on downloading every song from Laguna/Hills/City because they are flawless and would make for a great soundtrack when i drive cross country next summer (hopefully...).
