AMC and OLTL Canceled!

Yeah, she lived there in 1994-1995, and 2002, fun times. Then she moved into the car for a bit. Then Palmer fell for her charms and she got to move on up to the Valley Inn. Then onwards, how far indeed. Richie? Hmm, maybe. I think you're right. My last clear memory of the Pine Cone is Aiden living there and splitting time between making out with Kendall and Mia. Oh, oh Ethan lived there too until he shacked up with his future step-mother.

Okay, so maybe McTavish kept a tiny bit of class divide after she returned.

I don't know why they ever changed it. I guess because people have jobs and have to do something to earn their check, so they decide they need to have a new theme. The other day I uploaded a video salute to Ruth Warrick that used that theme as a piano solo, and it really is pretty slowed down.

No theme since even came close. And the crap theme they used today almost warrants cancellation.

This is beautiful! That's exactly the arrangement I was hearing in my head too for the final scene! Beautiful!

I totally understand the importance of this theme to the show and for long, long time viewers. For me though, the 1990-1994 saxophone falling pictures theme will always be MY theme and I feel of all the modern 90's soap theme updates, this one was truly the best. I may be biased... I am not too sure why they ever got rid of it at the 25th anniversary. I was really glad it was resurrected in an updated form in 2002 and has remained with the show until the very end. Although the visuals of the themes of the past 6+ years do definitely warrant cancellation compared to them of years past. I really loved how the photo album aspect of this show was expanded and truly realized with the falling pictures theme. While dated in terms of production, the concept to me is brilliant.

You're right. Now that you mention it, I definitely remember the Lavery trio there while Greenlee was keeping the penthouse after Ryan's return from the dead. Amanda? I don't remember. I remember her just coming in around May 2005 and trying to sex up JR successfully, then Jamie. I have no memory of where she lived until she moved in with Jamie. I'm surprised Babe never lived at the Pine Cone. Or did she? Well, she did know how to sell her goods well, lol. Babe & Jamie did live over a a garage or something like that, a few more class diversity points for the evil one (McTavish). Krystal/Babe were initially written as white trash climbing their way up, too.

Speaking of white trash, I kind of hope Mary and her gold-digging ways make a return.

DOOL has it right. You don't need photos of actors, you don't need their names, you just need a nice piece of music and a memorable image. Y&R years and years ago had a nice opening with the panning over the drawings of the cast, but they too lost their way many a time. Those are the only two soaps I guess that stuck with their themes to one degree or another. The rest just decide randomly that a piece of music is somehow not current. Jack Urbont had a theme for OLTL that just blows everything after it away. I love the cheesiness of "here's what to do when you don't find the rainbow's end" but there was nothing wrong with the theme immediately before. And then there was nothing wrong with "I'll give you tomorrow let me be the one to share it with", but they dropped that for some strange perfume commercial opening. I am serious, people draw salaries to think about openings and themes, and therefore they get tinkered with whether they need changing or not. I guess if they didn't change themes every few years people would have lost their jobs long ago.

I don't think Babe ever lived at the Pine Cone.... Krystal was checked in their servicing truckers when Tad first tracked her down, was she not? Or was that not even in Pine Valley?

And yet, its the one that is still here.... not much of a consolation I guess. I fully expect it to be gone by Sept. 2012.

That piano/strings version of the AMC theme was on WoST long ago, along with a pretty snazzy/jazzy/Soul Train version of the original ATWT theme.

There, of course, are lyrics to the original AMC theme. WoST had the vocal version, too (along with vocal themes for OLTL, Y&R, RH, and GH):

"All my children have come through the wilderness,

To the promised land, there to be free.

Who will show them the path to the new frontier?

Who will take their hands down to the sea?

Their shadows grow.

Someday, they'll know.

Love's the only way.

They must fasten their dreams to another shore,

Evermore, until they find me.

All my children cry out for a brotherhood.

From the mountains, their echoes reply.

Who will give them the peace they are yearning for?

Who will sail their dreams up to the sky?

Their shadows grow.

Someday, they'll know.

Love's the only way.

They must follow the tide where the sea birds fly,

Evermore, until they find me."

The OLTL lyrics are here, but the big Preview box over the music obscures the closing lines.

This really does mark the 'death' of the genre. GH is toast, will loose viewers who watch all three soaps in a block. Only the Bell shows and, maybe Days, will remain--Sony has been great at cost cutting and has an interest in keeping the show alive for international distribution.

I do wonder if the loss of AMC/OLTL will help the remaining soaps. In the past, cancellations haven't helped a rival's ratings; however, now, viewers will have no other scripted options. I could see Y&R going up a tad in HH numbers, picking up bored older people and people out of work.

I can totally see Brad Bell hiring Lucci for B&B (I want her to be Sally Spectra's long lost sister.) CBS will be poaching the strongest talent.

    • It's very smart, even if I don't love the choice of content creators. And it's hilarious Daphnée keeps doing lives on Instagram, when she's admitted she isn't the best of them.
    • Tomlin's first stint was from May 1983 to March 1984 (11 months) when he left to become co head of AW. He lasts about six months the second time. But he' paired with John Whitesell this time and the show was a wreck after Mayer/Braxton's 6 months.
    • I think it's wonderful that they have started to let the actors do more press with content creators.

    •   I agree. Colby did a nice job playing against TMG. They had some nice sparring/energy. I think they matched well against each other. CM/Kat looked very pretty today (and really as always) and I agree that Kat is a smart character and I appreciate that.  I am interested in seeing how he plays against Nicole/Leslie. I'm not sure what will end up happening there. Especially considering they are such strong female characters. Maybe he will have chemistry with one or both of them. I hope he has chemistry with at least a couple of people. I would have liked to have kept Maurice, but maybe things will somehow work out with Keith in the role. He really does love them especially Naomi. I think he genuinely believes in her ability as an attorney as well.  He doesn't even get mad when she questions/chastises him, because I think that he thinks that she is capable and smart. I think his love for his children, definitely provides some good depth/balance to his character.
    • Someone called Leslie "LADS" for all the names she has used LMAO
    • @xtr I agree, Bill's love for his children levels out his character. There is something already lovable about him.
    • The new Ted comes off as older to me. His stature and appearance remind me of Vernon but without Vernon's charisma. He doesn't have the presence MJ had. Maybe KR will surprise us in the future but I'm not really invested in Ted as a character anymore.
    • Moving closer to the summer, I hope one of the new sets we get is like a beach house with/ a pool or something outside.
    • I agree that Keith's version of Ted does come across as younger. I thought that Ted's conversation with Kat today was interesting. He painted a picture of Leslie that no one (including the audience) has seen before. Leslie behaving like he described why he was initially drawn to her, though of course it doesn't excuse him of hurting/cheating on Nicole. I did like Ted's honesty/vulnerability in his conversation with Kat. I also continue to like Bill's relationship with Naomi. I believe he does genuinely love her and vice versa. Like she stated today he doesn't make it easy for her to love him, but she does. I would like to see them team up one day and be on the same side with something. I think that it's interesting that June doesn't know who the pictures of the two children are. I think it might be an older picture of her and Hayley together as siblings, like some people up here have already suggested. I also wonder what Ted will get Eva for her birthday. And I liked Eva giving it a little to Leslie on today's show when she brought up that people may soon suspect Leslie regarding Laura's accident. Leslie tried to spin it more like it may have been Eva's doing to Kat, but I did like Eva standing her ground and telling Leslie she wouldn't allow herself to be used so that Leslie could get closer to Ted.
