As much as I adore the original themes (and not the remixes) of all three ABC soaps, under normal circumstances, where a daytime president didn't interfere with the opening of a soap, all three of these themes would be gone by now. I mean having the same theme/opening concept for nearly 17 years(like GH) is kind of unheard of for a soap. Well at least it is to this P&G soap fan, where ATWT/GL/AW were constantly changing their openings and themes.

We were discussing this in another thread last week. I love that AMC has always maintained its photo album theme within all of its opening. Even the current theme has lasted nearly 20 years, with the exception of a change in the late 90s to 2002. I like having some continuity within the themes and I dont like it when soaps drastically change frequently like the P&G soaps you mentioned

I kinda like them staying the same though. At least the songs. Cause, they kinda have always fit with the mood/tone of the soap.

The only one that's always kinda bothered me was the DOOL opening. The sand running through the hourglass is bleeping depressing. (No offense, Days fans)

OLTL has never had the same type of opening. Their most iconic opening didn't start until the show had been on for over fifteen years.

I think they could pull off a new and different type of opening, but I don't know if anyone cares about making the effort.

I often wonder if they should just let fans pick the opening or make it. Something cheap but decent would be an improvement.

^Yeah, fans picking the opening would be a good idea. Maybe like putting a couple of concepts up on ABC.com and having a voting contest. I would like that.

This is my favorite OLTL opening (turn your volume down):

I like that a lot. Although now the sun would rise over a woman being raped.

Speaking on the P&G thing, GL had the Hold on to Love theme in some variation for over a decade.

I don't mind OLTL's opening but I would only want new visuals. I love the song, but going back to the pre-remix version wouldn't be bad. They are not going to create something totally new or go back to the one with Peabo Bryson.

I have an idea for an opening that would mix some concepts and musical/visual cues of the various openings, but ugh, what a daunting fan wank project for a non-computer savvy person like me.

What I dislike about the current opening is the undercuurent of cheapness. There's this synth sound that sounds like an old Atari game crossed with a Jack in the box. Even Satin Sheets was all synth but it sounded so lush and looked like a million soft-core bucks.

Peabo's Theme is the show's most iconic yet I don't want to here it croaked out by a cast member. I used to suggest Joss Stone but I'm not a huge fan of her affectation so I'll say I'd love to hear it sung by Adele, or someone of that ilk.

Visually, I'd do something similar to the two previous tour of Llanview openings mixed with Another World's final opening where they took the actors outside interspersed with some posey in studio glamor shots. Stuff like Bo and John out in the bitter cold walking up on a crime scene, Starr and Hope in the park a la Ryan's Hope, Dorian in shades stepping out of her Rolls tossing her wrap over her shoulder, the Ford brothers (clothed!) smiling with elbows on each others shoulders in one of the in studio shots, Todd stand spooning Tea and kissing her neck in another, Viki stepping out on the Llanfair terrace and looking up into the sun for the final shot, stuff like that.

SFK part of what you said sounded like one of the Ryan's Hope openings in the 1980s.

I just want an updated opening for OLTL as some people look a lot different than they did when their parts were filmed and they've haven't been updated. Mixing over five year old shots with ones from last year makes it look inconsistent.

Yes! You're rght, I'd forgotten about that. Only thing is I'd slap some effects on, like the black and white with a blue/gold cast to it like OLTL and AW did, some grainy shaky cam cuz I've got 1995 The City taste. :P

While I'm not completely sold on either current AMC or especially GH openings I admit OLTL's looks all the cheaper now in comparison--it really looks fan made. So I'm all for this although no Peabo opening--it's a classic I admit but it would just get laughed off the air by any new fans (what few there are) who are watching. It's just way too cheezy (yes in instrumental version as well)

Do you think it would have been less cheesy with real instruments, and do you think it's cheesier than You Take Me Away to Another World?

And thanks guys! :)

I believe we've talked about this before, but can you all hear the similarity in the Tour of Llanview theme to this other Dave Grusin composition?
