Don’t think it ever got romantic with Casey and Brock…

Things were heating up with Brock and Julia when Beau K decided to quit in Sept 80. Don’t know if they were well-received by viewers…

Peggy was married to Jack Curtis and engaged to Steve Williams but neither was a healthy relationship. Her fling with Jack Abbott sounded more fun! In a more enlightened era, I think Peggy could come out as gay or bi

I remember in one synopsis around 1981 stating Victor gave Peggy the bedroom eye. That sounded interesting. I wish Bell had explored that angle.

I assume if Brock had stuck around he would have been the one Victor locked in the dungeon instead of Michael Scott.

You are right. I think Peggy disappeared from the show without explanation by late 1981. Wings Hauser left and was replaced by Howard McGillin. I still can't believe Hauser was ever hired as Greg. He was blech !!!

I could picture someone like Tom Tammi in the role of Greg. I always wondered why he was canned from ATWT. I guess they wanted to take Tom in a different direction with the casting of Justin Deas.

Every time I tried to read Nikki’s history it sounds like she had at least 7-8 years of history crammed into 3 by the time she met Victor.

Same thing goes with the whole initial John/Jill/Jack triangle plus the whole Jill/Andy/Karen mess.

Paul stuck between April and Barbara Harding along with Barbara’s husband is one of the most bizarre twin stories I’ve ever read and seen on a soap before.

I’ve always been curious about Lance being engaged to the French woman, I think her name was Monique? I always wondered what did Vanessa think of this engagement LOL.

I also feel that the feud between Bell and Conboy was probably a major distraction as well for the show.

I once tried to ask my mother and the one soap watching grandmother about this era. My mother only remembered being a Snapper & Chris fan but during that time she watched AMC & GH more while Grandma thought the show got better with Newmans & Abbotts, but she was more into P&G soaps to begin, her watching Edge & SFT to their bitter ends.

She really did burn through a lot of story quickly in 3 years. Within a couple months after debuting as Casey's bratty sister/Paul's girlfriend Bell had her kill her father, placed her into the Foster/Brooks orbit when she married Greg, then went into the modeling scam, cult, stalker, stripper etc...storylines one after another.

Bell seemed to overwork Melody as much as Jaime Lynn Bauer.

Serial plans to show real facelift By VERNON SCOTT United Press International HOLLYWOOD —

"The Young and the Restless" will be breaking new ground in the coming weeks when one of the serial's actresses undergoes a face lift both on and off camera .Jeanne Cooper a 10-year veteran of daytime TV will undergo cosmetic surgery in a hospital operating room Monday as the cameras grind away. Eight or 10 days later viewers will see Miss Cooper's character wealthy Kay Chancellor have the plastic surgery. The operation will be performed by Dr Harry A Glassman but his patients won't recognize him in his operating clothes cap and mask.

Anyhow the cameras will be focused on his hands and Miss Cooper's face. An actor has been hired to play Dr Glassman in pre-operation and post-operation shots The idea for including the surgery in the show was all Miss Cooper's. She wanted to have the operation but was unhappy that it would keep her out of the show for seven weeks Then she suggested that Kay have a face lift too which would allow Miss Cooper to continue in her role during recuperation and add yet another dimension to her character.

Miss Cooper did not reveal her age but it can be safely placed well over 50. Her face has the usual number of crows feet wrinkles and lines of middle years. She is a handsome woman with a twinkle in her eye "Since I influence so many people who watch the show I thought it would be a good idea to have Kay undergo the operation". she said. "I'm doing it the right way and I want other women who are thinking about cosmetic surgery to go about it as carefully as I have I checked out four surgeons before I settled for Dr Glassman who I think is the best.

"I'm having a total face lift in several stages. Actually. it will take a whole year. But the first operation is the one that will be integrated into the show next month".Regular viewers of "The Young and the Restless" won't detect a dramatic difference in Miss Cooper's appearance once the surgery is completed and the swelling and bruises diminish. The reason must be credited to the magic of the show's makeup specialists who apply lifts to either side of Miss Cooper's face. These are pulled up and back behind and under her hair to pull her facial skin taut eliminating wrinkles and lines and knocking a dozen years off her appearance.

After the decision was made to include Miss Cooper's surgery in the show her beauty secret with the lifts was revealed on the air to the astonishment and fascination of viewers. The response was heavy and immediate "The reaction of viewers was terrific" Miss Cooper said "When they saw me without the lifts they thought they were looking at Kay's older aunt". Women of all ages wrote and called to learn more about cosmetic surger. Miss Cooper will bear the cost of the operation not the producers or network. She explained that if anything goes wrong their insurance coverage would not be involved "This is really almost a documentary of cosmetic surgery" she said. "I hope it encourages women who need face lifts to go about them as thoughtfully as Kay has. "It's not just a matter of looking younger - Cosmetic surgery can make a woman feel better about herself" The News and Observer Raleigh NC March 9-March 16 1984 Page 37.

Guys, some of you know this for sure... Are all of Young's early episodes still standing somewhere in a dusty room? They are not lost right? I am talking about Season 1, day 1... and onwards.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
