Screen Gems became (or was gobbled up by) Sony. I think I answered this before, maybe for you or someone else. They are the distributor of the show. Their main job was accomplished in the US when they sold Days to NBC. Their main focus since is as the international distributor of the show to all of the countries outside of the US.

In some recently unearthed "Days" research, Bill Bell mentions that he got medical advice for "Days" storylines from a Dr. Mel Bayly, the chief of obstetrics at a Chicago hospital. In 1968, Bill Bell named one of Salem's long-time recurring doctors after Bayly. Richard McMurray played Dr. Mel Bailey on "Days" from 1968-1977. In fact, Dr. Mel Bailey was also a baby doctor, and helped deliver five babies throughout his decade on "Days", most notably Mike Horton in 1968; Hope Williams in 1974 and Eli's half-brother, Scott Banning in 1977. Pictured above are the real Dr. Mel Bayly (left) and actor Richard McMurray, who played Dr. Mel Bailey (right).
 
Here is the real Dr. Mel Bayly's obituary from 2012:

Dr. Melvyn A. Bayly was Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and later Chief of Staff at Wesley Memorial Hospital in the 1970s. Eventually, his son Melvyn Bayly Jr. joined the practice at Northwestern. The son of the Rev. Milton and Myrtle Bayly, Dr. Bayly was born on a ranch in Alberta, Canada in 1919 and grew up in Chicago. Dr. Bayly attended DePauw University, where he met his future wife Lila Seneff in 1939. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1943 and served as a US Army Captain in Europe in WWII. Mel and Lila married in 1942. They raised four children in Evanston, IL and later moved to Golf, IL. A devoted dad, granddad and great-granddad; Dr. Bayly is predeceased by his wife, Lila; and son, Melvyn Bayly Jr. (Libbie); Dr. Bayly is survived by his sisters, Verla Peterson and Vivienne Bertolette; his brother, Darryl Bayly; his daughter, Marsha Schoene-Langohr (Marshall); his sons, Ronn (Susan) and Phil Bayly; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 28 at 4:30 at Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Rd., Evanston, IL. Published by Chicago Tribune from Jan. 22 to Jan. 27, 2012.

1991 #ClassicDAYS Bo & Roman talk on the pier in matching brown leather jackets (They have a really great talk.)

Here's the question. Supposedly there's a scene in 1992 that is similar only it's John & Roman but again with the matching brown leather jackets. Anyone have any idea what date in 1992 that might be? Thanks!

DID YOU KNOW....MAGGIE'S DEBUT AND STEVE & KAYLA'S WEDDING WERE BOTH STRIKE EPISODES...

"Days" fans may not realize, but Maggie's debut episode from 1973 and Steve and Kayla's wedding from 1988 (the last time "Days" was # 1 in the ratings) were both written during WGA strikes. No writers are listed at all on Maggie's debut, and only "Story By" is listed for Steve and Kayla's wedding in 1988.

Thanks to Julie Dove (Connie) for sending in these photos of Ken Corday at the piano, along with a list of the songs he performed. Eagle-eyed "Days" fans will notice that Corday named the "Children's Suite" after his three children.

The big thing about DAYS & writing is the huge changes they've undergone! They lost all 3 vets that they had - Lorraine Broderick, Carolyn Culliton & Richard Culliton, all retired. They had 4 African Americans & now they are all gone. Plus, just recently Joanna Cohen disappeared from the list. That means they've lost a total of 8 writers! They've only gained 2, both nepotism hires, Henry Newman & Sonja Alarr. Now I am one who will rise in defense of nepotism at times. I mean it is alive & well in daytime & has been literally since the beginning & there is much to the good. In this case, however, I'm not seeing it.

There's a big story in Los Angeles about a man who dismembered his wife, and her torso was found in a dumpster.  Part of the draw of the story is that the man is the son of Sam Haskell, disgraced CEO of Miss America and former agent of Dolly Parton.  Also noted was that the man's mother was an actress on Days of Our Lives.  So, I did an IMDB search and to say that she starred on DAYS would be an overstatement.

      Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.

      Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.

      I said on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago that perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. Since we hardly know anything about Leslie's childhood background. In addition, Leslie said she grew up listening to The Articulettes….

      There was a scene in the past week or two with Leslie looking at some papers and mementos, which included an invitation or souvenir from Alan's memorial service or funeral -- it was dated as November 2024. Me just guessing but it seems to me that Martin's nightmares about the accident are from something longer ago than November.

      I felt for Ted early on but as the story unfolded it has changed my opinion on him. To know he was cheating while his wife was struggling to give him a baby is a lot to deal with. Plus, this happened ages ago and still he's paying Leslie off and threatening her to leave town.  What really caused me to lose him in this episode was how even though he was busted, he still refused to take responsibility and come clean and the way he talked to Martin and Eva was terrible. To tell Smitty he better get Martin away from him when that is his SON who he used to cover up his affair? That is true dog behavior. Ted seems upset he got caught but I'm not seeing the remorse I would need to want Nicole to forgive him. I'm curious how I'll feel after Ted gets to talk to Nicole but I need him to fix it with the rest of the family as well.

      I'm sorry. I well remember Jake doing Doris but I have no independent memory of the story around it.  Krystle with a K Lake, sure, both Tony the Tuna stories & NOT.  And, Jake also impersonated a woman named Bunny Eberhardt but he didn't know she was a woman so there was no drag. This weekend I re-watched Kevin & Mac, GH, and my strong impression is exactly what it was when I watched it in real time: They did not let them look very pretty. Of course, I think the best ever drag on GH was Alexis posing as the Q butler.  In a different use of drag at AW one Halloween, Jensen Buchanan went as Charlie Chaplin & Judi Evans went as, I think, a male gypsy.

      I'm not sure who wanted them to dump REUNION & instead do a "Dallas-like daytime show" but it seems that it def came from NBC to AW through Rauch, so, yes, it absolutely could have been his (cough-another-stupid?) decision!!!! I've just begun the new Lisanti book so maybe I will find out. (I waited for the kindle version to come out.) I would apologize for being so critical & so sarcastic, too, but, well, I'm not actually sorry!  Silverman was NOT a friend to AW.  And, I believe the critique is on point & deserved! I wanted to explain why I think the timing is off for the 90 minute show to be a reaction to the GH Luke & Laura story & its hype. Because, for sure, networks & production companies did react to it! The first 90 minute show was Monday, March 5, 1979.  And, there was some unknown amount of time ahead of that with people arguing about it & then, planning it.  The Luke & Laura wedding was mid-November 1981.  They were on the run from Frank Smith & stayed overnight in Wyndham's Dept. Store early August 1980.

      Yes, I am familiar with Fred Silverman. Agree, the 90 minute AW a very poor decision by Silverman. I think Silverman was behind the decision to go with Texas.
