October 12, 201015 yr Member Some spoilers are included. Glad Rory and River Song will be back, at least for a bit. http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/10/10/doctor-who-to-film-in-u-s-for-the-first-time/67369
October 12, 201015 yr Member I'm kind of surprised the BBC agreed to spend money on a international location shoot.
October 12, 201015 yr Author Member They must be getting a deal, perhaps because DW is so popular on BBC America. I wonder if SyFy might regret letting the show get away, then again I don't know the ratings the show got on SyFy.
October 12, 201015 yr Member Isn't the show co-funded by a number of places? I know the CBC here in Canada gets a credit.
October 12, 201015 yr Author Member Probably. I love what Matt Smith does with the role. I wish he hadn't come right after Tennant, as he will never compare to a lot of viewers. I really like Rory too. I think with the proper writing this could be the best team in years and years, if Rory stays around.

I don't see it like that - every Doctor is some generation of children's Doctor. The show is in good standing now and MS is beloved by the public already, so he's unlikely to be slagged a la poor Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy. And it's just a matter of time and public perception. If Smith sticks around for 3-5 years he could easily be as cemented as Tennant, and I think he is already a more original and startling presence. However, Tennant's Doctor was IMO very mainstream. I really like Rory too. I think with the proper writing this could be the best team in years and years, if Rory stays around. I'm not sure Amy and Rory will go past next year. All companions split eventually. But I love them for now.
October 13, 201015 yr Member Frankly I got rather tired of David Tennant's "overacting", so Matt Smith is a breath of fresh air in the role.

I guess I think about those stories that came out after the season ended where they were taking bets on whether Smith was going to be fired. I'd hate to see him get the blame for bad scheduling or for other changes that couldn't be avoided. I really like the idea of a Doctor having more than one companion, and I think this one works well as a team, so I hope they might stay around for at least a few years. I guess more than anything I'd like the show to move back towards the old method of Doctor and companions, since Smith is more like the old school Doctors, and I think that has the most story potential and also makes sure there's none of the faux-romance stuff which the Doctor has had with every female companion but Donna. They could always have Rory go back to Earth sometimes and then return. Realistically though I think he probably won't be around much longer.
