Guest dc cubs
This is the first time I took a good look at the year end season to date numbers. I was surprised that Days remained the same in HH and Demos over last year. The first half of the TV season the show was doing well but for about the last 6 months they have been pulling in 1.8 and 1.9 in HHs and 1.0 and 1.1 in Demos. Yet, they were still able to end the season with a 2.2 HH and a 1.4 in demos. So the DVR viewing is really helping them there since the season to date numbers count DVR viewings up to a week later. Y&R was the only soap to show an increase of any kind over last season with a +.1 in demos. The biggest drops were B&B who lost .2 in HH and AMC who lost .2 in demos. Members quartermainefan
I don't think money trumps sex-o-phobia. If it did, then there would have been no Janet Jackson debacle, and we would be seeing breasts and butts on TV like they do in europe. Clearly there is money in sex and TV shows like Nip/Tuck and True Blood. The networks refuse to carry them anyway.
Members EricMontreal22
Yeah it's a weird double standard. You'd think that by now the US woulda learned something from the UK...
Members Saving ATWT
Demos matter but I think people ignore that gross HH rating does hold a certain amount of value. A good example of this would be B&B which has been demo challenged for sometime yet number 2 in HH. CBS is nowhere close to cancelling the show provided it maintains its gross total viewers regardless of whether it ranks 4 or 5th in 18-49. Was thinking about how Y&R does pretty well in both HH and demos considering it is a daytime show when a lot of people are off to work. Imagine if Y&R were running in primetime? 90210 and Gosip Girl really aren't doing all that much better even though the pool of viewers is far larger. I'd be so curious to see how Y&R would do in prime time on a mini-network like CW or MY. For that matter, Days or GH might do well. MY network looks for cheap programming for primarly News Corp ownd channels and has already played with the idea of the telenovela format. I could see one of these shows possibly making a move and doing a 4 night per week run. They would seriously need to sex the show up--maybe get those old porn directors who worked on ATWT in the late 1990's
