I don't really think she had much of a story. She was the African American detective on the show in the late 80's/early 90's who was often helping Paul and his father solve crimes (Mainly the George Rawlins Murder) I believe she was kind of a replacement to the character Amy who was also working for Paul in the 80's. The original actress to play Salena was Fay Hauser. On the episodes where she is replaced by this Candy Ann Brown woman, She is helping other detectives bust Danny for his possession of cocaine. (which David Kimble planted in his dressing room)

A November 1973 Afternoon TV says that "several months ago" Diana Walker had to abruptly replace Jacquie Courtney for a day due to Jacquie's daughter being hospitalized.

I'm not sure if this was the appearance listed as 1974 or if she returned to replace Jacquie again in 1974.

Id like to see that. Diana was on Dark Shadows right?
