Simon Cowell to be knighted and Joanna Lumley to become a dame!

<span style="font-size:10.5pt;">Simon Cowell and Joanna Lumley will both receive honours in the Queen’s birthday list. Music mogul Simon Cowell is set to become Sir Simon Cowell and actress and Gurkha campaigner Joanna Lumley is being given a damehood

The X-factor and Britain’s Got Talent creator and judge has been given the honour for his services to music and charity. In January this year, Simon organised a group of artists, including Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey and Kylie Minogue, to perform a version of REM's Everybody Hurts to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Comedienne Joanna Lumley is being recognised for her influential campaign for the Gurkhas and helping them gain the right to reside in the UK.

Both Simon and Joanna will visit Buckingham Palace next month when the Birthday honours list is unveiled.

Does this mean X-Factor contestants will have to call the top judge Sir Simon from now on...?!

Simon Cowell's fantastic? I'm so glad for Lumley, she is fantastic!

Simon Cowell is marvelous. He is very generous in giving money, quietly, to charity. Additionally, those who work with him are always taken care of very well and he takes a smaller cut than other managers and executives do. He is a ton of fun and is wonderful to his mother. Sure, his music isn't 'classy', it's popular, to hell with it, life's too short to be a snob about that kind of thing. Besides, his next door neighbour growing up was Joan Collins, so he's been touched by fabulous personified!

In the words of Slavoj Žižek: humanitarianism and charity are just an arm of capitalism. An important part of its engine.

Explain the quote please, I'm too dense to understand it.

I'm thrilled for Joanna Lumley. She is a very charismatic, sensual, and classy woman and she's played such a wide variety of roles (I can't choose between Patsy and Sapphire). She seems to have had a big comeback in the past year or two, not that she ever went away. That Ghurka campaign got such press.

Congratulations to Simon Cowell too.

Joanna  I spent many Saturday mornings/afternoons getting my little gay boy on with Edina and Patsy thanks to BBC America. I know Jo's had a long, long career, so I'm very glad for her.

Does Simon have an OBE?

Oh yes, Joan and the Cowell's have been friendly since the late 60's. They lived right next to one another in the London suburb of Surrey. Rather posh.
