Mama's Family

I'm throwing in another vote for the Bubba years. Bubba was just HOT, and he still very much is. Always in those tight pants with those sexy suspenders. One of the best episodes was when he wanted to join the Army and he wore those tight little shorts, thighs just bursting out of 'em......now I'm starting to sound like Blanche Devereaux.

As much as I loved the revolving door of family members in the NBC season, I liked the set dynamics of Mama/Vint/Naomi/Iola/Bubba. The overall feel of the show was SO mundane and middle America, but it was such a funny show. One of the few that was good all the way up til the end, IMO. Until about 10 years ago, the major ABC station here still showed it as a lead-in to Saturday night primetime.

Here is the eppy

The reason I started watching this show was because my grandmother watched this on TBS. The Bubba years were the ones that I caught mainly, so these are the years I like most. I'm a bit surprised at all the pro bubba years because I thought the other years were more popular. Since I watched Golden Girls first I was a bit surprised to see Rue and Betty acting differently on Mama's Family.

I always get the feeling that the first two seasons are more beloved because of Carol's appearances. I love those episodes too (all scenes with Mama, Eunice, Ellen, and Fran were gold), but nothing beats the later years for me.

Something I noticed once was that all of the characters in the later years had a color scheme for their wardrobe. No matter what they wore, it was in a shade of a particular color: Mama was blue, Vint was brown, Naomi was yellow, Iola was pink, and Bubba was green.

Re: Bubba; GOD, you just had to go find that clip, didn't you? I swear, there are men twice my age that I would gladly end my wild running-around days for, and Kayser is one of them fer sure. Him and John Schneider from The Dukes of Hazzard.

Yes indeed to the color scheme thing. Unlike The Golden Girls where every lady claimed a primary color per scene, on MF they never switched around.

I had a major crush on Bubba/Allan Kayser back in the day of Mama's Family. I still do to this day. The man is still [!@#$%^&*] hot!! He is also divorced. What woman in her right mind would leave him??wub.gif I'd do Allan in a second.wub.gif

I came to like this show from the time it used to air in reruns on TBS. The best episode of the network years was "Rashomama" where Naomi, Ellen and Eunice all told their stories of how Thelma got knocked out with a pot, that one is roll on the floor funny all the way through.

I mostly like the earlier years better because they wrote Naomi and Vint as much stronger characters, especially Naomi. She got to stand up to Thelma and she was complicated and tough and sarcastic. After syndication she became this shrieking cartoon and any scenes she and Vint had were about how stupid they were.
