Phoebe's old friend, Bitsy Davidson, and her daughter, Cecily, arrived for a visit. Francine and Mark touched off an explosion at the Chateau while trying to freebase cocaine. Ellen was trapped in the burning building along with other patrons of the restaurant. Palmer returned from his secret trip and was stunned to learn Natalie had moved out of his mansion. Skye fumed that Brooke gave her a gofer job while Hillary is Brooke's assistant. Jeremy nearly strangled Matt because he let Jeremy stay in jail when he knew he didn't kill Earl. Julie didn't like Cecily's interest in Charlie. Ross thought of his romp in the sack with Natalie while he was making love to Ellen. Yvonne fretted Otis will take her son away from her. After Matt told the police he saw Mark kill Earl in selfdefense, Mark was cleared of murder charges. Matt nixed making love with Robin, then warned her gambler friend, Ford.

Jeff successfully operated on Ellen, critically injured in the explosion at the Chateau. Natalie was grateful to Palmer, who forced Adam's thugs to clear her of art fraud charges. Yvonne fears she'll be killed if she tells police about Otis' baby-selling ring. Palmer asked Natalie to move back into his home to take care of Ellen. Adam doesn't like Travis. Erica refused to help Mark financially after facing the fact he's a coke freak. Skye sabotaged Hillary, who was worked on a project for Travis. Ford got Robin into a high stakes card game then gave her money to cover her losses. Ross vowed to kill Mark if Ellen doesn't pull through. Julie wants Cecily to keep her paws off of Charlie.

Mark enrolled in a drug rehab program. Erica denied Jeremy's suspicion that she take Travis as a lover. Jesse and Angie fumed when Les picked Frankie up from school without telling them. Det. Borelli objected that Jesse plans to go undercover to get the goods on Otis' babyselling ring. Palmer made Myra promise to keep mum he's no longer paralyzed. Phoebe and Langly plan to rewed. Jeff and Brooke argued over her career. Natalie insisted to Ross her relationship with Palmer is just friendship. Brooke quit Tempo Magazine after Adam admitted he inserted Travis' secret political plans in Brooke's profile on Travis. Robin fumed when Ford's check to cover her gambling debt bounced after Ford blackmailed Robin into sleeping with him. Ford's poker buddy, Litton, wants Robin to work off her debt as a prostitute.

Julie saw Ross and Natalie embrace after they decided their relationship should end. Travis proposed he and Erica start up a magazine that will be hot competition for Adam's Tempo Magazine. Natalie agreed to go on a trip with Palmer. Matt admitted to Benny he took Erica's money from Mark, but said he plans to gradually funnel the money back to her after he recoups what he spent to buy the Oasis nightclub. Les' arrival scared off Otis, who tried to force Angie to reveal Yvonne's whereabouts. Brooke agreed to return to Tempo when Adam said he'd admit he doctored her article on Travis. Det. Vince Borelli realized Otis' boss is anxious to find Yvonne and her baby, Derek. As part of his undercover plan, Jesse arranged to be accused of tax evasion. What was that DAYS story with Alice and Simon about?

1987 was the year GH lost their #1 spot, right? When did that take place in 1987? These stories kind of show why.

I wonder how fans of ATWT felt at the time about Sabrina. I wish I could see more of that story. I've always felt like it was a good idea but was never properly explored.

So that was the start of the Sin Stalker.

This era of Y&R is hit-and-miss for me, despite their reaching #1 in 1988. While I enjoyed the Victor/Nikki/Ashley triangle and Jabot/Newman corporate battles, I didn't care too much for the constant focus on Cricket. A good chunk of the storylines from 1986-1989 revolved around her, which is why I consider the late 1980s to be the Cricket era.

FrenchFan, thanks again for your hard work in bringing these past storyline summaries to the board. Do you have summaries for March 1984 - October 1986?

Julia found Hayley, who had been raped. Hayley said she didn't see her attacker's face. Gina faked a suicide attempt then escaped from prison to comfort Hayley. Gina finally handed over the video tape, which showed Kelly killed Dylan in self-defense. Lionel was jealous when he saw Caroline out with another man. Ted is convinced Jake raped Hayley. Mason is curious about Jeffrey's antagonistic feelings toward the Capwells. Jeffrey was livid when Mason allowed Keith to charge Jeffrey with obstruction-of-justice charges to protect C.C.. Lionel was sympathetic toward Alice, who said she can't forgive Caroline for leaving Alice in the mental hospital. Cruz stopped Ted, who was about to beat Jake with a hammer.

Kelly flipped out when Jeffrey finally admitted he's Mason's half-brother. Jeffrey insisted Kelly keep mum about his identity and the fact that Jeffrey and Mason's mother, Pamela, is dead. Julia agreed to defend Jake, who was arrested despite his claim that he didn't rape Hayley. Jake told Cruz and Eden he was seen by a bag lady at the time of Hayley's rape. Eden found the bag lady, Dottie, who split from town after verbally confirming Jake's alibi. Lionel was hostile toward Caroline, who tried to help him celebrate his birthday. Lauren admitted to JoAnna Evan is trying to blackmail Lauren into helping him get Michelle (Faren) back. Jack vowed Victor will pay for the mental anguish he's caused Ashley to suffer. Casey agreed to think about taking Nikki's place in Victor and Victoria's lives if Nikki dies. Kay was surprised when Philip said he would continue living in her mansion instead of moving into his own pad. Jill stomped off in a huff because Philip stayed with Kay. Matt warned Victor Jack's out for Victor's blood. Evan showed Michelle (Faren) old photos taken of her and her family. Tim told Traci he'll never be able to mend his fences with his soon-to-be ex-wife, Andrea. Paul tried to convince Lauren to remarry him, but she doesn't think they need a piece of paper to be happy together. Evan and Andy admitted to each other they both want Michelle (Faren).

Jack convinced Steven to come to Genoa City to work with Ashley, who refuses to cooperate with Dr. Jennings. Lauren put off Paul, who wants to remarry as soon as possible. Evan insisted to Michelle (Faren) that he wants to help her try to regain her memory even though she is married to Andy. Paul confided to Lauren his suspicion that Evan is up to no good. Jill's assistant, David Kimble, doesn't trust Brad to help Jill convince Jabot to produce her line of men's cosmetics. Brad mentioned to Jack that Jill's working on a special project, which Jack vetoed even though he knows nothing about it. Casey is becoming closer to Victor. Nina accused Cricket of having the hots for Philip. Philip, who is still thinking about getting his own pad, took Cricket's advice and decided to stay with Kay a little while longer. John warned Matt to make sure that Victor never comes near Ashley again.

After Casey insisted Victor wouldn't choose to marry Casey, Nikki talked Julia into coming to Genoa City for a visit. Nikki freaked when Julia suggested Ashley is perfect to take Nikki's place in Victor's life after Nikki's death. Ashley told Steven she had her abortion because she knew Victor could never leave a dying Nikki. Julia told a surprised Victor Nikki summoned Julia because she's trying to find a replacement wife for Victor. Jack, playing cat-and-mouse games with Jill, told her Brad can’t be trusted. Faren (Michelle) told Evan she wants to have her baby and stay married to Andy. Kay thanked Cricket for helping Philip make the decision to remain under Kay's roof. Victor suggested Matt and Casey would make an ideal couple. Cricket warned Kay not to use Philip against Jill.

Julia returned to Paris after convincing Nikki that Ashley is the only woman to replace Nikki in Victor's life. Jack nixed telling Nikki anything about Ashley's whereabouts. Kay urged Philip to pursue his interest in Cricket. Steven urged Ashley to put her past behind her and get on with her life. Before her departure, Julia told Victor about Nikki's love for him and her plan to ensure his happiness after Nikki's gone. Lauren is annoyed that Paul and his mother, Mary, are pressuring Lauren to remarry Paul and to start a family. Jack convinced Ellen to date him again. Cricket told Nina to stop freeloading and get her own pad. Jabot’s new photographer, Skip Evans, gave Nina a modeling job. Cricket was upset to see Lauren give Danny a friendly kiss. Janet was happy to learn that Evan is returning home — without Michelle (Faren). Michelle (Faren) told a skeptical Andy that Evan agreed to leave town.

That's quite an understatement. How backburnered must they have been at this time if the only line in the summary was that he was kind of upset when his wife was killed.

Ugh. This story sounds just awful on paper (and the serial killer got the wrong Josie...)

Does anyone here remember this story? Was it better onscreen than on paper?

They should have had this upcoming son as Stuart's and Joanna's.

Geez they have been repeating this story for over 20 years.

It was interesting to follow, in part because it spun Jesse in a direction he hadn't been before at the same time Angie was just beginning her medical career. It also dug up his connection to Yvonne, the woman Jesse cheated on Angie with - and there was a brief question as to whether the baby she sold to the ring was Jesse's (it wasn't). But the big shocker was that Angie's father, Les, who had become shady over the years - and had since parted ways with the family - was at the top of the ring. (They tied this to the time Les had "arranged" for Frankie to be handed to another family.) It all ended in a brutal confrontation where Jesse fatally shot Les right in front of Angie.... which, of course, made for more drama between the couple - as at first, Angie could not cope with her husband having killed her own father.

The storyline was pretty interesting, though it was mostly islanded until was eventually tied to Travis's story. I recall there was some controversy at the time surrounding Jesse killing Les. They got some heat from some groups about having a black man kill another black man.

Julie defended her date, Chet, when Charlie said Chet uses drugs. Jesse and Borelli found Les’ hideout, but the place was empty when they arrived. Tom counseled a lonely Mark, who was tempted to turn to booze for comfort. Jeremy moved Noelle into an apartment above his art gallery. Just as Patch was about to be sentenced for murder, Adrienne rushed into court and announced she remembered shooting Duke after he raped her. Caroline thanked Victor, who purposely arranged for Justin to tell Bo he's not really Victor's son. Leslie and Chris talked about becoming partners in a law firm. Justin, who romped in the sack with Angelica, is attracted to Adrienne. Kimberly and Shane staged a public argument to convince Gillian they've split for good. Olivia almost told Roman Marlena is Orpheus' captive. Abe checked out Mr. Coleman after Tamara said she's resumed her relationship with Coleman. Lars promised Melissa he won't stop loving her just because she can no longer dance professionally. Gillian, who wrongly believes Kimberly is out of Shane's life for good, confided to Grace that she's sure Shane is falling in love with Gillian.

Charges that Patch killed Duke were dismissed after Adrienne's courtroom testimony that she shot Duke. The judge didn't press charges against Adrienne since she acted in selfdefense. Bo and Hope became the proud parents of a baby boy, Shawn Douglas Brady. Roman flipped when he realized Olivia is in cahoots with Orpheus. While on an overnight school trip, Glenn stomped out on Jennifer when she nixed sleeping with him. Victor assigned Justin to work on a riverfront project with Angelica. Patch kept Kayla at arm's length, then was jealous to see her with an old friend, Zach. Frankie came to Jennifer's rescue when their friends poked fun at her for being a virgin. Gillian surprised Shane, who was in New York to check out Gillian's past. Paul realized both Kimberly and Gillian have plans to spend time in New York with Shane. Maggie panicked when she lost her voice.

Mike was shocked to see his old friend Diana Colville, who was hospitalized after someone beat her and cut her with a knife. Jack Devereaux, who's in town to undergo cancer treatments, passed out while dining with Kayla. Angelica fussed over Jack who is her stepson. While headed home on their own, Frankie and Jennifer videotaped a robbery in which a store owner was shot to death. Frankie and Jennifer were later captured by the gang that committed the robbery. While working on the dock project with Angelica, Justin met up with Adrienne, who agreed to a date. Patch doesn't feel that he can compete if Jack decides to woo Kayla. Bo and Hope bought a boat and planned a world cruise. On the boat, a mysterious man held Hope at gunpoint. Roman continued his search for Marlena. As part of Shane's plan to expose Gillian's plots, Paul agreed to marry Kimberly.

Patch and Bo fended off the man who held Hope at gunpoint. Bo and Hope and their baby, Shawn Douglas, sailed off into the sunset on a world cruise. Roman went to the island where he believed Orpheus was holding Marlena. Orpheus was shot to death while fighting with Roman. A wounded Olivia told Roman Orpheus had put Marlena on a plane. Roman rushed to the airport in time to see the plane crash, presumably killing Marlena. For Gillian's benefit, Kimherly and Paul were "married" by a fake minister. Shane drugged Gillian then later lied to her that they had made love. Shane answered a call from Grace (who returned to England) just as Gillian walked into the room with Shane. Patch became a spokesperson for Salem's less fortunate citizens. Justin kept mum to Adrienne that he's Victor's nephew. Kayla spent time with Jack. Neil consoled Angelica, who is worried about Jack's health.

Mike saved Diana's life for a second time when a man posing as a doctor injected poison into her life-support system. Melissa said goodbye to Lars, who accepted a dance job in New York City. Gillian planted a bomb in Kimberly's car, but her attempt to kill Kimberly was foiled. Just as Shane feared he'd have to go through with his offer to marry Gillian, Kimberly appeared on the scene with Grace in tow. Gillian confessed that she committed all of her evil deeds so that she could have Shane to herself. After Gillian's arrest, Kimberly accepted Shane's marriage proposal and they decided to tie the knot right away. Victor phoned a mystery person who wants Mike's research project halted. Alan cautioned Monica not to get too attached to Rosa, since the girl must someday return to her home in South America. Lucy is worming her way into Tony's life now that Tania is gone. Anna received crank phone calls after Mark's newspaper article indicated she's involved in police corruption and cover-ups. Malcolm warned Greta she must turn her secret formula, Mox 36, over to the enemy or she'll be ruined. Edward is suspicious of Sean and Wolfgang's HTI takeover deal.

Tony forgave Corey, who admitted he was driving the car that killed Tania. Tiffany freaked out to see Sean and Greta sharing a passionate embrace. Tony is scheduled to perform brain surgery on Corey. Susan, a mental patient, tried to kill Tom. Duke got into a fist fight with Mark, who later decided not to charge Duke with assault. Wolfgang planted some false documents in Greta's possession to see if she'd sell them to the enemy. Malcolm later sold the documents to his contact, Jonas. Camellia lied to Duke that she hasn't been cooperating with Mark's smear campaign against Anna. Camellia told Mark to go to L'Orlean if he wants more clues to Duke's past. Lucy smothered Tony with sympathy. Malcolm was kidnapped.

Duke was surprised when he received inheritance money from Angus' estate. Patrick fumed that Terry canceled their romantic evening together to sing an extra set for her expanding legion of fans. To save his own skin, Malcolm told the DVX agents he plans to kill Greta. Lucy quit her hospital job after convincing Tony to hire her as Barbara Jean's full-time nanny. In an effort to find the real antidote formula for MOX-36, Malcolm stole Greta's personnel file from the HTI office. Greta secretly went to see her father, Alex Baker. Frisco argued with Jake, who believes that because of Corey's medical condition, he wasn't in control mentally at the time his car struck down Tania. Rosa overheard Edward tell Monica to send Rosa back to South America. Frisco and Felicia planned a vacation. Bobbie is convinced Lucy has devious reasons for accepting the job of Barbara Jean's nanny. Abigail told Janet Mark is snooping into Duke's past in L'Orlean. Mark learned from a doctor Camellia's mental breakdown was connected to a man with a beard.

During a session with Tom, Camellia remembered that she killed the bearded man, Evan, when he tried to rape her. Mark's newspaper story about the cover-up of Angus' death and the events that took place in L'Orlean hit the streets just as Duke and Anna were about to get married. Greta split while Sean and Frisco grappled with DVX agents, who had taken Greta prisoner again. Malcolm tailed Greta. Lucy is making herself indispensable to Tony. Terry and Patrick quarreled. Frisco considered becoming a WSB agent. Corey was released from the hospital.

John, who is in prison, told Lisa he loves her, then blamed his arrest on Fletcher and Maeve. Fletcher realized Cameron doesn't get along with his father. Rusty got a letter from Mindy, who's still in South America with Billy. Paul threatened to tell Philip about Alan's involvement in the stolen art scam. Johnny fretted that Rusty may dig up info about Johnny's past connection to Paul. Ross and Vanessa quarreled over Alan. While Christine and Paul struggled over a gun, the lights went out and a shot was fired. Christine split from Paul's pad as Johnny rushed in and picked up the gun.

Johnny dashed off in search of Christine while Ed announced that Paul had been shot to death. The police quizzed Alex, then threw her in jail because her gun matched the one used to kill Paul. Sarah broke up an argument between H.B. and Josh, who supposedly told the police he overheard Alex threaten Paul's life. Alan agreed to let Christine hide out in his home. Dinah is curious that Cameron never talks about his family and nixed introducing her to his parents. Lisa asked Fletcher not to print her story in the newspaper. Alan and Vanessa sparred. Christine said she didn't kill Paul. Chelsea romped in the sack with Philip, but nixed an offer to work for him again. Roxie told Johnny she found the gun he hid in the closet. Chelsea admitted she knew Paul. Alan is also a suspect in Paul's murder. Rusty found Johnny's pilot's wings next to Paul's body.

A mystery person stole the gun that Roxie found in Johnny's closet. Mindy returned from her visit with Billy and had a strained reunion with Rusty. After learning that Alan's cane was found in Paul's room, Alex fabricated an alibi for Alan at the time of Paul's murder. H.B. smooched with Alex, who was released from jail after H.B. gave her unfired gun to the police. Roxie secretly met Johnny, who is a prime suspect in Paul's murder. Johnny said he's staying in hiding until he finds out who killed Paul. India wrote Maeve that she and Dorrie have settled into the family estate in Andora. Josh and H.B. can't agree on how to run the family company. Alan admitted to Alex that he had met with Paul before he was murdered. Dinah flipped out to see that Cameron had cocaine in his possession. A hired killer received orders from his mystery boss to delay a hit on Philip. Lillian feels Hawk is neglecting her.

Lisa hinted to Maeve that there's a little hanky-panky going on between Lisa and Fletcher. Lisa then called the prison and left John a message that their scheme has been initiated. Lillian advised Dinah, who is worried Cameron is using drugs. A disguised Johnny sneaked into Ross's home and insisted he didn't kill Paul. Johnny nixed turning himself in to the cops until he can find out who really killed Paul. Josh quit his job at Lewis Oil after another blow-out with H.B. Neither Rusty nor Mindy will admit the depth of their feelings for each other. Philip decided to postpone a trip with Chelsea so he can investigate Paul's murder. Chelsea rented a garage apartment from Ed. Alan's right-hand man, Enright, went to France and stole some papers Paul was holding over Alan's head. Lisa lied to Fletcher that Maeve accused her of having an affair with him. The police are tailing Roxie.

Alan offered Christine big bucks to tell the police that she accidentally killed Paul. Christine fretted over the fact that she believes that she did kill Paul. India's former assistant, Tracy, told Rusty all about India's shady art deals. Ed and Ross pressured Roxie to talk Johnny into giving himself up to the police. Alan secretly taped Roxie, Johnny and Christine, who discussed Paul's murder. Alan told the police that someone (Johnny) had broken into his mountain cabin. While Josh was visiting Reva, who's still in Florida, H.B. told Reva over the phone that Josh split with Lewis Oil and his family. Mindy is frustrated that she and Rusty fight whenever they're around each other. Ed was impressed with the way Sarah handled the distraught wife of a hospital patient. Cameron kept Dinah from meeting his father, who was at the hospital for tests.

Jeffrey helped capture a gunman who tried to kill Mason. Kelly blabbed to Mason that he and Jeffrey are half-brothers. Jeffrey told a shocked Mason Pamela committed suicide because she was terminally ill. A speeding car crashed into Eden and Tori, who were in Eden's parked car. Gina is intrigued by Dr. Alex Nikolas. C.C. refused to help Sophia raise bail for Brick, accused of raping Hayley and another woman, Harriet. Cruz didn't quite believe Tori, who lied that Mason is the father of her baby. Mason was furious to learn Julia didn't intend to tell him he's the father of her baby. Lionel told Caroline he made a mistake when he ended their budding romance and now he wants her back. Julia agreed to defend Brick, who said he had an altercation with a hooker at the time he's accused of raping Hayley. Jane's taking care of Johnny while Brick's in jail.

Tori and her baby escaped injury in the car crash, which was caused by a drunk driver. After the accident, Eden miscarried her baby before she even had a chance to tell Cruz she was pregnant. Caroline said goodbye to Alice and Gus, who left for Chicago and Gus' new job. Psychiatrist Sharon had a talk with C.C., who disapproved of Ted undergoing therapy sessions in order to cope with Hayley's rape. At a group session, Ted met rape victim Lucy Pickett, who admitted she has tried to commit suicide. Julia fantasized about raising her baby with Mason's help. Cruz and Eden rented a plane and made plans to get married during a vacation in Utah. A mysterious woman is keeping tabs on Eden. Tori is jealous of Mason's concern over Julia's pregnancy. As planned by Alex, Kelly tipped C.C. about Alex's interest in Delta Pharmaceuticals, and C.C. made plans to take over the company. Gina pursued Alex.

Pearl rescued Caroline, who had a close encounter with a would-be rapist. Jane struggled with the rapist, who turned out to be Ken, a bartender at Brick's restaurant. Since Brick was in jail at the time of Caroline's near attack, it proved that he's not the person who raped Hayley. A mysterious woman took Eden hostage, knocked her unconscious and then left her in a snow-covered ravine. Disguised as Eden, the woman parachuted out of Eden's small plane after setting off an explosive device. A shocked Cruz witnessed the explosion that blew Eden's plane to smithereens. Eden, who was battered, bruised and snowblind, wandered away from the ravine after regaining consciousness.

The mountain man, Cain, took Eden to his cabin. After regaining consciousness, Eden panicked to learn her legs are paralyzed. Jane escaped from Ken, who fled after stealing money from Brick's restaurant. Alex reminded Jeffrey never to forget the-pain C.C. caused Pamela. Lucy tried to help Ted contend with Eden's "death." Cain took a feverish Eden to a hospital, admitting her as Susan Cain. Brick was released from jail. Eden heard a doctor tell Cain Eden will never be able to walk again. Lionel comforted Caroline, who fretted over Jane. Cruz arrested Ken after he had lured Jane back into his clutches. Cain sneaked Eden out of the hospital and took her back to his cabin after overhearing the hospital staff speculating about whether he caused Eden's injuries. The Capwell clan held a memorial service for Eden. Jeffrey tried to help Kelly cope with Eden's fate.

Cruz fell over a roof edge as he was trying save a suicidal Lucy, who threatened to jump to her death. Cain encouraged Eden to overcome her paralysis. The woman who tried to kill Eden is keeping close tabs on Cruz. Caroline kissed Lionel, who admitted that he's jealous of the attention she's received from Alex. Kelly believed Mason, who insisted to Jeffrey that he never received any letters from Pamela before her death. Meanwhile, C.C. burned the letters after Mason asked about them. Cruz was accused of child molestation after he attempted to touch a little girl who reminded him of Eden. Pearl thinks Jane and Brick make a perfect couple. Ken, the rapist, may never go to trial.

Kay was pleased when she spied Philip giving Cricket a passionate kiss. Jack laughed when Brad said Jill is working on a line of men's cosmetics. Jack also doesn't think Jill has the wherewithall to get the project off the ground. Traci kept mum that she saw Brad seemingly have a good time with Jill. Jack was pleased Ellen agreed to a date and said she'd try to get along in his high society world. Cricket warned Kay not to smother Philip. Nikki hired Paul to find Ashley. Nina was miffed Philip didn't respond to her kisses. Mary and Lauren argued over Lauren's reluctance to remarry Paul. Tim kissed a flustered Traci, who nixed discussing her problems with him. Jill made Brad promise not to tell Traci about the new cosmetics line. Ron realized Ellen hasn't been taking a salary from the shelter's funds. Victor noted Nikki's condition is worsening.

Paul told a shocked Nikki Ashley is in a sanitarium. Nikki went to the sanitarium, but Ashley nixed a meeting with her. Danny is concerned about Cricket, who said she has no desire to date anyone but him. Ashley sought comfort in Steven's arms. Kay was pleased to overhear Philip tell Jill he's happy living with Kay. Jack introduced Ellen to his family, and later, John perused Ellen's shelter and quizzed her about finances. Steven was pleased Ashley had Jack bring her some Jabot business papers to work on. Lauren is upset that she let Paul pressure her into remarrying him. Victoria consoled Victor, who tried to tell the child that Nikki will be going away (dying) soon. Brad admitted to Jill that Jack forced him to reveal Jill's plan for a line of men's cosmetics. Jill took an instant dislike to Nina, who is working as Skip's photography assistant.

Realizing that Victor broke up with Ashley at the same time that he learned Nikki was dying, Nikki became convinced that Victor returned to her out of pity — not love. Faren, who was stricken with abdominal pains, was rushed into surgery. The doctor told Andy that Faren will survive the surgery, but her baby won't. A drunken Nikki performed an impromptu striptease at Gina's nightclub. Later, a horrified Victor escorted Nikki home. Ashley admitted that she depends on Steven. Cricket and Philip shared a romantic moment that was interrupted by Kay, who's pleased about their budding relationship. Janet urged Evan to forget about Michelle (Karen) and get on with his life. Ashley nixed seeing Nikki, then daydreamed that Nikki agreed to let Ashley have Victor.

Faren was devastated when Andy told her she had undergone successful surgery, but she lost their baby. Nikki wrongly believed Victor and Ashley have been waiting in the wings planning to resume their romance once Nikki dies. Ashley phoned Nikki, who angrily denied she ever wanted to speak to Ashley. Jill was elated when Brad talked John into a special board meeting at which Jill wants Brad to present her new line of cosmetics. From a phone message Ashley left for Nikki, Victor learned Ashley is in the hospital. Later, Ashley was shocked to see Victor standing in her hospital room doorway. Unaware Victor is at the hospital, Nikki considered telling him of Ashley's whereabouts. Philip admitted to Nina he never had a home life since he always lived at a boarding school. Victor had a talk with Steven, who nixed telling Victor what caused Ashley's breakdown.

Ashley told Victor that he didn't cause her breakdown, but she's convinced that having an abortion was the right thing for her to do at the time. Faren (Michelle) was shocked when Evan, who visited her in the hospital, brought their daughter, Betsy, along. Evan didn't tell Betsy that Faren (Michelle) is the child's mother. Jack fumed when John endorsed the men's cosmetics line, even though Brad admitted the idea was conceived by Jill. Faren's doctor warned Andy that Faren's medical condition might prevent her from becoming pregnant again. Steven told Ashley that she can be released from the hospital, and assured her that he'll continue to be her friend and her doctor. Ashley hugged Steven, who took her dining and dancing on her first outing since she was hospitalized. Nikki hustled Victor out of the restaurant when she spotted Ashley and Steven. Nina planted sexy kisses on a surprised Philip

It's funny...if I were someone with no familiarity with soaps reading these summaries for the first time, I would think that they were essentially carbon copies of one another, with the universal plots of amnesia, attempted murder, kidnapping, star-crossed romance, etc. They would all seem identical. But if you actually watched these shows, you'd see how clearly varied they all were in tone and structure. That was back then when many of these shows had their own identities. Now, of course, the lines have been blurred and there's really not that much of a difference among the remaining shows. They really do seem like carbon copies of one another in how they structure their stories and present their characters.

Agreed. She was a terrible fit for the show. Her writing, at least on GL, was right out of lazy soap writing 101. Bring on a villain--Paul Valere--make everyone hate him, and then bump him off in a whodunnit. The only problem was that nobody cared about the dull character or the boring murder mystery. This was probably just before Pam Long returned.
