It's strange the panel would pick the Who Killed Archie? There were better stories last year. That story was a mess and just resorted to having half the cast arrested at random. Stacey's bipolar was better, I thought they might go for that, since the purpose of the panel seems to be rewarding stories that aren't as mainstream.

I don't know if this show has ever had someone win two awards on the same night. I guess Lacey could be the first. Given how miserable she is at these awards shows I wonder if she'll be there.

I don't think any story had any major critical acclaim or buzz last year, but the Archie storyline was certainly the most buzzed about story in the press last year. But if they want to be socially relevant, they'll probably go with Corrie's alcoholism story or Emmerdale's gay self-loathing story.

Brian Capron won 5 in 2003! 'Best Actor', 'Best Exit', 'Villain of the Year', 'Most Spectacular Scene', and 'Best Storyline' for Corrie's Richard Hillman stuff. Corrie also picked up Best Soap that year, on the back of that story really.

That Hillman story was classic and a national event in the UK.

5, that's crazy! I wonder if that typecast him in the long run, I haven't seen him on a lot, aside from Strictly, where he was the first out.

I know a lot of the Chryed fans are annoyed because they thought that might get a panel nomination. I guess I can see why, as the topic of the story is something that is daring, even if the execution wasn't, IMHO. I thought of the Who Killed Archie? as something that would be more likely to be brought up when they win Best Soap.

I'm hoping Emmerdale will sneak in there with a few of these. I'd actually like to see them win something voted on by fans, but that doesn't seem likely (the best chance might be Jimmy/Nicola), so something from the panel would be good. Last year they only got the one where Victoria fell through the ice. I'd love to see Danny win Dramatic Performance, since Lacey already has actress locked up, but I know that may not be likely.

I wonder if they didn't put Sarah's death in Best Exit because they knew it wouldn't win a public vote. I thought that was a brilliant exit, so real in a way few soap deaths are, so I am hoping it wins the Stunt.

Unfortunately, if you aren't Corrie or EastEnders, you're always at a disadvantage when it comes to the categories voted on by the public. Unless there's a surprise, like in 2008 when Hollyoaks went home with 8 awards.

I wouldn't be surprise if Lacey wins both Best Actress and Best Dramatic Performance. She's the darling of the British soap industry, deservedly so really, and she had tons of critical and press acclaim for her performance during the bipolar storyline.

Sarah's death wss great and the only good thing on Hollyoaks last year, they really deserve the stunt award for it. I too was puzzled as to why it wasn't up for Best Exit, but whatever.

Since she's leaving soaps and probably won't be back, and has already won so many awards, and hates awards shows, I'm hoping they might just give her one award. She does deserve that, certainly, she was superb throughout the year.

I really do think that they knew Sarah wouldn't win Best Exit and they want it to win something, although watch me say that and then Stunt goes to something like Doctors.

You mean Chris Fountain? Didn't he appear on some competition show the year he won? Certainly he had a bigger public profile than most that year.

Though, Carl should be happy that Emmerdale got nominated in every category this year, well they're in all the 9 categories listed above. Corrie and EastEnders have one less nomination with 8.

You find these categories out the day of the show. They usually show a montage and name the top contenders voted on by the fans...

I'm happy, but then I remember when Hollyoaks was nominated in every category and won nothing.

I'd just like some surprise wins, and a win for Aaron's story. I'd love to see a big shock and Lyndon wins over Marc Elliott and his usual weepy faces.

On the flip side, didn't Hollyoaks have the most nominations in 2008 too, and they ended up winning 8 awards that night? Emmerdale probably won't be that lucky though.

I hear John Patridge won't be able to attend due to his commitments with Over The Rainbow.

If Aaron's story doesn't win anything, it'll probably still be eligible next year, since it's still going on.

I didn't know they had the most in 2008. I guess that year they were also helped by the teen voting -- the show had a huge buzz that year which they weren't able to duplicate afterwards.

I wonder how many stories win awards or are up for them two years running. It seems like stories only tend to cover one year most of the time. Aaron's story has been so strong this year, I'm not sure where it will be next year.

I wonder how much the panel really cares for EE's serious stories anyway. I remember all the hype over the Whitney/Tony story and then the panel didn't give it anything.

Here are some photos of a woman from each of the 5 soaps, posing together. They do this every year (none for the men this year I guess). Amello, your favorite, Sammy Winward, is here. She looks good in the 40s style clothes. Michelle Keegna looks gorgeous too. Preeya also looks great. The Top Model judges would have a field day with the poses and facial expressions from Cheryl on Hollyoaks...

I guess it must have been? Either that or 2008.

The colors in that photo, and the women look washed out, and the suits on the men...Ryan Thomas is one of the most beautiful men ever and he looks frumpy.

I'm glad they did the women up better this year. I just wonder where all the good men have gone from the photos...Bonnie Tyler was on Hollyoaks, she needs to find some heroes.

    • With all the changes Sunny was one of the longest running characters by that time.  She had never been married and had heaps of story potential. I can see America getting with SFT -you know 'the circus soap'. Smart move because circuses were all the rage with the kids in the 80's. Maybe Stu and Jo could have bought the circus.
    • It is actually pathetic, that Victor’s 50 year old children are still written as scared of this man that has to sit in every scene. I get it, EB has been on the show for almost 50 years, but I don’t care. He’s a man in his 80’s and should not be the damn lead and driving force because you don’t want to upset Eric Braeden ‘s fragile ego that only exists because the writers have cowtowed to this man for so long.
    • PREACH Victor being written as he was 20 years ago to support EB's ego or some misguided belief that what worked decades ago is still relevant is destroying the show. Victor comes off as a rambling old fool holding on to vendettas and a desperate need for perceived power. His children still cow-towing to him makes them look equally foolish. If the writing portrayed Victor as  more of an irritant to them then maybe it would work.
    • They desperately need another meeting spot that isn’t Orphy Genes or the Country club. Y&R is awful now but there’s at least GCAC, Crimson Lights, Society, and the Jazz room at GCAC to meet at. 4 places is definitely better than 2 and I can’t imagine these rich folks literally only eat at their damn country club.
    • I support all of this. 80 year old Victor reading lines off the table or teleprompter until it’s time to yell at someone and still being the main man driving story on the show is absolutely ridiculous to me and one of the biggest issues with the show. I respect Braeden for wanting to keep working in his old age is great and all, but WHY IS HE THE LEAD?
    • I believe they said 27 sets. We have not seen that many maybe around 20. Perhaps they meant they have space for that number. I would like to see another meeting place -maybe a restaurant that could fit in b/w Orphy's and the Country Club. Casual but classy. Jacob/Naomi need a living room and it would be good if Vern/Anita had a smaller study/library so they're not always in the same room. I guess budget plays a part. For example, maybe the plan is for Jacob/Naomi to get a home down the track when they become more prominent. I really hope that outdoor sets come into use. A terrace at the Country Club or a few shopfronts-a park maybe. Speculation re June. I would go with a Hayley connection as she needs something else to do apart from whining to Bill. June could  provide some conflict cos I don't see Bill being that interested in having her around. He could try to buy her off, upsetting Hayley or she could overhear/uncover some dirt on Bill so he's forced to keep her around. The parents of Tyrell/Samantha can be held for down the track along with the mystery of Andre's parents. The advantage of a new show is that there is so much from character's pasts that can be used. An ex for Vernon or Anita and various relatives to come out of the woodwork.
    • Oh god I haven’t gotten to that episode yet, you have to be [!@#$%^&*].ing kidding me. I will say to my surprise, the Danny actor no longer bothers me. He has actually improved quite a bit.
    • I hear what you are saying, but I feel there is definitely an opportunity for improvement. If the set problem is to remain, then the whole focus has to change. Business has to take a back seat if there are no sets available to support story. As I have said before return to Jabot and have a number of characters working and interacting there. They seem super reluctant to do it but Victor needs to be a more supporting character.  Eric Braeden seems determined to carry on and that is of course admirable, but keeping Victor as this dominating force has been detrimental. Have a sweet reunion of Sharon and Nick and marry them off for good. Bring on Faith and I'd even have Adamson back as Noah at this point to support Nick/Sharon in a parenting role. They really need to bite the bullet and drop one of the following -Billy, Chelsea, Phyllis or make them recurring like Abby/Ashley with appearances or short term stories when appropriate. Free up some space for new or returning characters- Noah, Allie, Fen, Moses, even a recast Dylan.
    • Today was really boring. I get we needed to have Martin accepting Eva but man I needed some Leslie today. Anita being hung up on was intriguing though.
    • Yup, that's John Mahoney, a few months before the star-studded 1986 production of The House of Blue Leaves. Also, God bless TPTB for thinking that a circus storyline was gonna grab the hearts and attention of viewers.
