AMC: Agnes Nixon Interview with EW.com

I thought she was talking about executives as well. I doubt she knows much about Kreizman other than what he ordered when they got together for the obligatory new headwriter suck-up lunch.

Hahaha!

Finally a decent soap related piece from Ent Weekly, even it is online only. I wish it would have been a bit more candid, but really that's much more candid than one usually gets from Agnes, so I guess it'll have to do. Some great bits though as usual it's not always easy to read between the lines (does her One Life comment mean she endorses what RC and FV are doing there? was that a warning to Kreizman or her old best friend EW?)

Because of the All My Children move and One Life to Live taking over new studios, a lot of your fans are worried about the future of those shows. Do they have reason to worry about One Life in particular?

I don’t think so. I certainly can’t speak for the network. First of all, as we’ve all said, it’s a great vote of confidence that the network moved the show out here. They’ve moved One Life into a studio and that’s much bigger for them than the one they had. They are really some great people there. …As long as people work hard and don’t take it for granted… If they keep telling a good story, I think they’ll be alright.

HAHA, OLTL is still Agnes's bastard child soap, I see. ;):P

There was a period, where I was really worried for her health-wise (around the 10,000th epi), but lately she seems to have snapped back. Although this article ran an older picture from about twenty years ago, she looked OK on the 40th anniversary and seemed more lucid in the clips online and in this interview.

(Of course, we all know that EW writers didn't write this interview; Aggie did. ;-)

HA! Hi-five on your last comment.

I was really worried about her health too, she seemed SO fragile and a bit slow. But it's like she's been aging backwards ever since OLTL's 40th or so. Out of curiousity, do we know when her husband passed away?

<_< Some people wouldn't be happy even if Agnes came out of retirement to write full time for One Life and sacrificed AMC for its survival ;) What about us Loving fans (though actually she did stay more in touch with Loving creatively than One Life--One Life she basically left all together after 5 years whereas she was back at forth at Loving, even writing its penultimate year--but then again ABC never wanted to buy Loving so her production company owned it the entire time--City too, another reason they canceled it so early for PC)

It's just funny how she brags about AMC going out West to a bigger studio, and then she politely says, "Well, at least OLTL is getting a bigger studio than the one they had before," even if it is the one AMC had to move out of because of rising production costs and what not. LOL!

And regarding Loving, I wonder if that show would have lasted longer had Agnes and her production company pitched it to CBS or even NBC. Not like PGP didn't have soaps on all three networks and Irna was involved with soaps on both CBS and NBC for a time.

Right, but ABC wanted a soap and Agnes was happy to give them one since they had been so good to her up till then. Even the network admitted they fucked up though--the original intention was to sandwich it between AMC and OLTL (both which were doing really well)--then they put it as their first soap, before even Ryan's Hope (of course a few years in, they switched it with Ryan's Hope which did slightly improve the ratings, and pretty much meant Ryan's Hope had little hope). If it was on CBS I dunno if it would have been treated any better--remember their own Capitol was quite highly rated when they decided to sacrifice it for B&B.

NBC probably could have had more of a hit with it, but then again NBC have always fucked up their soap schedule, so...

Ha....she is also delusional if she thinks soaps are going to be around and that GL/ATWT cancellation are not going to affect the other soaps staying on the air. She is wearing blinders.laugh.gif

Haha I did laugh at that too. On one hand it's probably quite exciting for One Life (BTW has their stuff at the new studio started airing?) By all accounts their old place was TINY and also didn't have proper dressing roomes (!). But then to constantly hear about the awesome move out west of AMC, bla bla bla must make any excitement they have feel kinda... Well bringing back the ugly stepchild analogy, it's like your older brother giving you his great old room--because he's moving into the new massive suite your parents built above the garage :D

That's silly ol' Aggie for you--always so blind to how the industry works and what's going on around her. Gotta love that dementia riddled nutjob! :D

Do you want her to tell EW--well I've heard on the internet that this move means nothing except that our show will die even sooner--so within a year I expect my soaps to be gone and within 3 all soaps to be gone--thanks for the interview!

Please, let's stop with the bastard child OLTL posts. It's been done. We get it.

Her husband Bob died in '96. He'd passed not long before her interview with Connie/Marlena, they mention in.

I think the Slezak one is the only one I've watched twice. You should watch the David Pressman one for his AW/OLTL-related comments.
