New York Post: 'The View' in Lead to Replace 'Oprah' in 2011

I don't think Dr. Oz is a good choice at all. He has a good show (when I'm up for it, he makes me paranoid sometimes :P ), but not for that spot. A talk format more like Ellen or The View is a better way to go. Of course Ellen's already syndicated, airing against Oprah in my market for example. As much as The View feels like a morning show to me, it is still the best choice based on what's currently on the landscape. I think it was Bravo or A&E that used to do early evening same-day repeats of The View and it worked perfectly well, still it'll always feel like coffee time television to me.

Once upon a time, the "original" Rosie O'Donnell show would have been a perfect replacement for Oprah, fun, warm, endearing, but then of course it took a *turn*. I'm sure Rosie could get another chance, but her public persona has become so polarizing, and I'm not sure a daily TV talk show is what she needs in her life (did anyone see her on Oprah yesterday?). I think what she's got going for herself right now is where she needs to be.

"The View" is totally a morning-type show. It's so easy to associate it with coffee and the morning paper and doing laundry and coming in from a jog and all of that good stuff. Having it on in an afternoon slot would take lots of getting used to.

The only thing that makes sense in the afternoon for me is trashy talk shows, but we don't have them anymore :(

ABC is considering selling "The View" into syndication, meaning that any local tv station in the country (regardless of network affiliation) would be able to air it if they bought the rights to it. ABC would do it mainly because of the money they could make from it.

    • Claybon said Samantha and Tyrell were initially 6 and 7, but aged up for technical reasons, first aged up to 10 or 11, and then finally to 16 and 17. Is that the first time soap children have been SORASed twice before ever airing?

Is this someone you should be dealing with? I got the drama on lock. Leave it to me. You are my sister. You have loved & protected me every moment I've been in this world. It's my turn to stand up for you.

    • I just watched it, it was decent, looking forward to Martin's secret. Glad to get info on why the children were aged up!
    • !!! I felt the same. Martin secret has always been my favorite storyline.  I happen to Andre's wardrobe but it ages him. They have a grandpa vibe.

, Facts! I would like to see something like that in Daytime. Both of y'all can back up off my husband! Tomas couldn't shine his shoes.
    • Brandy was an odd mish-mash of a character. A radical during her college days, then a journalist/romance writer, I believe? But not so much of a radical that she had a problem chasing millionaire Alan, LOL. The actress, JoBeth Williams, went on to have a pretty good movie and prime time career.

Thought I’d share this video featuring Cathy Carricaburu, now Foxhoven, who played Nancy Becker from 1976-1978.

She talks a little about her acting career starting around the 6 minute mark and briefly mentions Y&R. I’d be interesting to see some of her work on Y&R since it seems to be her most notable role.
    • I believe Henry Slesar intended that the Paige/Nola plot would play out over three to six months and Paige would be the new younger ingenue; but a few things happened. Sharon Gabet didn't renew her contract and the audience didn't like the Paige/Brian romance as it flirted with incest. Kim Hunter revealed in an interview that she as slated for 3 months but Henry asked her to stay on for an additional period. I watched Edge during this period when it originally aired and Margaret Colin was not great in the role. She seemed very green among the vets as was the dude playing Brian. He was poorly cast which was unusual for Edge.  I think Henry started to get pressure from ABC and P&G to jazz up the show given what was exploding under Monty on GH at the time. I loved Kim as Nola and all the stories it generated for others. Miles and Deborah in particular. But the next who dunnit plot in this period was not one of Henry's best (at least for me the culprit and explanation were lame for Henry).
