Maybe it was cuz I was young and new to soaps but I loved her when I started at AMC (she was just getting over her bad girl phase--I believe she was involved in Craig who was married to Dixie and pretending to be Dixie's best friend?) I loved her redemption story (I'm not sure if I would now) at the time with the "Carrie" esque story with her evil religious mom, then the Stuart thing and then how that twisted to lust for Adam (and even how THAT twisted for lust for Alex--I remember those wonderfully over the top scenes of her watching him work out lol). But then she kinda just flitted around--triedher with Dimi, tried her with Tad and it kinda was meh. Carl what was her exit you liked?

No, Craig Lawson was Pretending to be Tad's Best Friend. They were after Palmer's Money. Craig Rescued Dixie in the Convience Store Robbery. Craig and Dixie Started A Romance. Later, Gloria found Will I think was doing Something Shady with Palmer's Money. Will Raped Gloria. That's how Gloria was Redeemed. Jody

Kit Fisher was a lazy amalgamation of several Aunt Meg's cliched trademarks. Kit Fisher: Mysterious Lurking Blonde with a promiscuous past who ran cons and turns out to be someone's long-lost sister returned from the dead who was redeemed of her sexual immorality by rape. This was immediately following Camille Hawkins... another mysterious lurking blonde.

You're right! The only thing missing was Kit's uncanny lookalike who craves taking over her life... also played by Paige Rowland, of course. B)

Oh man!!!! That was when she had to pick Jack or Mike! She chose Jack but had sex with Mike to say goodbye! UGH! But then when Jack caught them she rationalized it by saying, but Jack! We were just saying goodbye! UGH! That pissed me off! And she wouldn't freaking stop saying that! I wanted to smack her! Then what 1 or 2 yrs later she would say it again! UGH! I am so glad she doesn't say it anymore!

Hey Sonyab. Erica has A Little Pattern of Sleeping with One Man when She is Engaged to Another Man. Erica was Engaged to Jack and She Slept with Mike Roy. Erica was Engaged to Chris Stamp and She Slept with Jack because Jack was Worried about Lily because She had the Chicken Pox. Hey, Maybe Erica and Ryan Belong Together. Ryan was with Annie and then he was with Kendall. Ryan was with Kendall and then he was with Greenlee. Then, Ryan was supposed to be with Greenlee, but he ends up with Kendall. Now, Ryan is with Erica. Hey, Maybe Cameron is A Transgender and he Becomes Susan. They are Both Valuable to All My Children or ABC AND Neither of Them can Act. Jody

I honestly don't know what was the last straw... or if there was one. There was just SO much off about all she'd done that year. And what's funny is that what gave away that Megan was no longer writing was that the show started becoming interesting again at the start of 1999. And everyone was like, "HEYYYY. This doesn't smell like McTavish anymore!"

Kit Fisher was a total bomb. Camille Hawkins and her dad, and that whole boring backstory with Adam, another bomb (literally, when he BLEW UP the coffee house!). The implausible and pointless resurrection of Erica's "true love" Mike Roy, whose death was supposed to have life-altering effects on her character in the 80's... to bring him back as a nuisance, and mostly for laughs? Total failure. She did write Dixie's re-entrance, but even that she somehow made far less interesting than it could have been... as if she were relying purely on Cady McClain's appeal. She gave Janet & Trevor a goofy, too-soon-for-storyline wedding.. She was pissed that Janet had been redeemed in any way by Broderick, and was inclined to backburner them (and she was not longer a fan of Robin Mattson, who had years earlier, gone to the network and successfully stopped McT's plot to have Janet BOMB Trevor & Laurel's wedding). When she was pressured to give the Dillon family a story, she killed their dog... And we've already covered her awful story for Brooke in this thread.

I don't think any of these things went over too well... In hindsight, AMC of 1998 was pretty much a hot mess.

I don't think Robin Mattson had them not have Janet Blow Up Trevor and Laurel's Wedding. I think that the Oklahoma Bombing Happened and ABC Decided not to have Janet Blow Up Trevor and Laurel's Wedding. Jody

I think it started around the time Jesse McCartney took over, when they had Adam terrifying JR into doubting his perfect father Tad, because Adam was jealous of their bond. Since then it's usually been one version or another of ADAM BAD DAD. I guess because we didn't already get enough of that with Hayley.

The funny thing is in the long run, Adam was right about Tad. Tad was not a good father, and his influence has harmed JR. I would like JR to realize this someday.

I think It Started even before Megan McTavish. JR was Yelling at Adam because of his Girl Friend. JR ran away and Returned in 2003 when Megan McTavish was Writing. JR had wanted to Rub Babe in Adam's Face and that was why JR Married Babe. Jody

The bombing is what prompted Robin Mattson to approach the network with her concerns, which they acted upon. This is not rumor or inside; she was very open about it to the press.

Well, I don't count that because JR was an adolescent. I count the Jacob Young version brought on by McTavish. The "I hate you and want you to stay out of my life while I live in your houseand off of your money while you constantly clean up my messes" version.

But, don't get me wrong. Junior thinking Adam was eeeeeeeeevul because Adam wanted to send him to a boarding school with a championship soccer team to get him out of Tad's influence was obnoxious. Even to go so far as to compare Adam to Ray Gardner over that?! Ugh! Please! Again -- Tad's wonderful influence. Warping that boy's mind with comparisons of abusive, rapist, homicidal Ray Gardner and Adam. And, as you said, Tad's the one who did more damage to JR in the long run. Adam didn't get JR until after Dixie died and he was 17 years old. The damage was already done by then.

I didn't think JR was Damaged by Tad. JR seemed Happy Playing with Jamie and Brooke would fix them Brownies and Dixie would make her Muffins. Then, JR was living with Adam and JR Started Spending his Money and Showing his Money around and Saying that He was Adam Chandler JR or his Father was Adam Chandler. Then, JR Started Drinking and Using Drugs. Jody

Ha I always thought the Eric Kane as a clown story was one of the 1988 stories that caused the overhaul, but I do think there are a couple of DePriest episodes on youtube and they do show her slightly more over the top take on Pine Valley (as well as how quickly FMB did improve the production quality of the show)

Skye Sang at The Goal Post which was Owned by Tom Cudahy. I don't think that Skye would Kidnap her own Brother. Jody

You're wrong. JR started using drugs as an escape when Tad and Dixie started having their marital problems in 2000/2001 -- culminating in Tad bringing back Leslie Coulson who kidnapped JR and almost killed Dixie. JR didn't move into Adam's until after Dixie died. By then he was already SORAS'd to 17 years old and had substance abuse problem. R. Sinclair.

The only part of the story I liked was Kelly Ripa's performance. It was like...Kelly Ripa Acts! The wedding that wasn't was probably the best work of her acting career. And she did that nasty story at 6 or 7 months pregnant. That was the year of hell for pregnant soap actresses -- at the same time, late term Krista Allen was going through forced heroin addiction and withdrawl on DAYS, and Kassie de Paiva was losing her late term baby and being put into a coma on OLTL. Ugh.

I do think a lot of that was mandates. I remember the SOD article saying AMC was "hunking up" with Max Caulfield, Tanner, Michael Lowry, Daniel Cosgrove.

That led to the awful stuff where Jake, judgmental from the time he fell out of the tree, berated Liza 24/7 for being a tabloid reporter, and reduced her to wanting to sit around on his dinghy and wait on him.

I guess it's comforting to know Jake is a horse's behind through almost every regime (I did like him when he was with Greenlee).

Jake didn't say Anything about Liza Reporting the News. Jake wanted Liza to Sail around the World on his Boat because He Enjoyed being with her. However, Liza Refused to Leave Adam. Jody

I didn't know a lot about the Internet then either, so that was interesting. The rest...hmm...

Exactly, Pine Charles. The whole saga about her drowning was told by Travis and Jackson when the name Christine came up as a possibility for Bianca's name.

The Christine backstory originated in the late 1980s when Jackson first arrived. He was trying to sabotage Travis' senate run and the reason was that he found out from an elderly aunt that Travis was actually responsible for Christine's death when at the time the whole family had blamed Jack because Travis was the "golden boy." Jack had let go of her hand but Travis hit her with the sail post (whatever that thing is called that swings around).

I agree that the elder vets shouldn't be, and most likely don't care to be, overworked. I do however think that there are more artful ways to weave them into scenes and stories, something that hasn't really been taken advantage of. Then again, when all of your frontburner twenty- and thirtysomethings have absolutely no ties to the grand characters that came before them, yeah, you gotta get more creative.

Yeah, that's the problem. There are so many times when Opal or Palmer could have shown up to support Erica during Kendall's crises. Palmer's presence in a few scenes could have enriched Adam's current storyline, too. I know that actors don't want to work every day after a certain age, but it would be nice for the older characters to show up in scenes where their absence is noticed.

That may be, but I clearly recall the soap magazines reporting that the story was axed due to the Oklahoma bombing. I've never heard of RM's complaints before.

The Kit Fisher storyline featured one of my favorite scenes, ever. In which just after Jack revealed out of the blue that he had a heretofore unmentioned sister, we got a "dramatic audio flashback." Close-up on Jack's anguished face as we hear a bunch of kids in voice-over. "Jack, let's play on the lake!" "Okay, Chrissie!" *SPLOOSH, WATER NOISES* "Chrissie! Chrissie! No!" It was so abrupt and hilarious, it was like something out of Robert Hays' war flashbacks in Airplane!

Christine was a part of the history of the Montgomery's when both brothers came to town so it was hardly out of the blue. Both boys were haunted by her death as they grew to manhood and Jack's mother died from her grief and their father blamed Jack and shut him out of the family. This was a constant pain that Jack carried with him and much of his early attempts to destroy Travis came from this. It was a great back story and I loved that Christine returned except the ruined the concept of the story by having her a rape victim and pairing her up with Edmund who had just lost his wife and who's fans were still trying to get over ELR leaving the show. I would have rathered see Jack and his sister getting to know one another again and getting story from that rather than yet another rape story.

Pretty much.

The Martins wouldn't so bad if Ruth was around.

I said this earlier in the thread, but I wouldn't be opposed to a recast of Palmer. I want to see the Cortlandt / Chandler feud reignited, especially if they showcase the Petey / Colby romance. However, David Canary would need to stay long term.
