AMC: Santos Casting Call

Per SOW AMC is looking to cast an 18 year old-ish underwear model....I mean actor...in the role of either Max Santos, Mateo's son with first wife Raquel Dion or Lorenzo "Enzo" Santos, Mateo and Hayley's son. Apparently they haven't decided yet, even though they have specified how old the actor needs to be  .

Some thoughts:

-Remember how viewers used to call Max "Mapteo" because he was a mini Mateo who was obsessed with maps? I hated that kid. What point would there be to bringing him back when Max has no connections in Pine Valley whatsoever? Oh that's right, they just want to bring on a new teen but they want to give him a familiar name so they can claim they are using the show's history.

-While Max would actually be approaching 18, Enzo should only be 8. But factoring in SORAS I guess if Colby, who was born in 1999, is now 20 (?) Enzo should be 18.

It makes far more sense to bring Enzo on since he is connected to the Chandlers, which brings me to my prediction:

If they end up going with Enzo he will have a thing for his sexy aunt Colby. That has Pratt written all over it.

What's the matter with that? The show is lacking a teen scene, and that's always been one of AMC's main qualities, so it makes sense for them to want to build one up, and using already existing characters is a good way to do it. As far as him not having ties, they can create ties.

Mateo was the only Santos I truly liked (besides Julia), so anything connected to him back on the show is a good thing in my book.

I loathed arm-grabbing, smug, self-righteous Mateo who always treated Hayley like his property, so I don't know if I care about his son being around. I guess that type of man fits in with today's AMC.

AMC has done a very poor job with their teens in recent years. I kept hoping they would do more with Petey. I guess I should be happy he isn't dead.

My first reaction to this casting blurb was "Taylor Lautner clone," you know, cash in on the whole Twilight craze. On a soap, no man should be an island, I guess Kelly and Mark will introduce this kid (maybe?), but they're not sticking around and I see absolutely no point in having this kid on the show with no other Santoses in town. Are we supposed to embrace him because he's Mateo's? Fat chance, I didn't even like Mateo. This is lame Jason Olive Frankie territory to me. I love the idea of a character with ties to legacy characters, but I don't believe that the writers these days have what it takes to make a new teen character with no ties to characters currently on the canvas work.
