Yep - To call Mark's observation's stupid is just stupid. In fact Mark hit it right on the Mark - CLB's acting style is flamboyant in an understated sort of way. BUT - i could see them as a couple.

But killing Lauren would not be a something I want to see. and definitely not at the hands of Sheila or whoever the big bad bitch is who is coming to town.

It appears from fans of TB that she has been saying on her Facebook that she doesn't know where all these rumors about her being killed got started. I would think she would recognize how EB found out that he was going to be having contract issues..all it apparently takes these day is a well-placed leak LOL! I don't have any doubt that if this spumor is true it is an indicator of upcoming characters that will slowly be phased out of the show only they probably don't know yet.

If MAB truly wants Michael and Phyllis romantically together it proves once again she has no clue about her actors or their characters' history. Her Philip story was a fail because she didn't bother to consider how much history she would have to trample over and the fact that Thom Bierdz hadn't acted in a long time. Just like she gave Lily cancer when the actress was not up to the task.

She seems to get these ideas and doesn't think things through and they fail. The audience knows they will fail, but she can't see it and she runs the show. Now she wants to get rid of Tracey Bregman, a talented and well liked actress, to make a Michael and Phyllis pairing, when they have no romantic chemistry but good friendship chemistry. Michael realized over a decade ago that Phyllis was too much work in a romance and chose to just be her friend.

Phyllis messes up every single relationship she has ever had and she will do the same if paired with Michael. The one constant in her life was her friendship with Michael and MAB wants to throw that away to have a stupid story where Phyllis once again goes after a grieving man but this time she will be displacing not a rival but Lauren, a woman who has accepted and befriended Phyllis. And MAB thinks people want to see this?

So Phyllis gets sick of Nick not being able to let go of Sharon, so the solution is to have her hook up with a man who loses the love of his life? I can just see MAB writing a dramatic scene where Lauren, on her death bed, asks Phyllis to take care of Michael and Fen, and my stomach will turn because even on her deathbed, MAB will have Lauren propping Phyllis.

Tracey Bregman to the very end will be used as a prop for someone else. And of course, no doubt MAB won't bother telling Bregman. Tracey will just hear rumors until she is e-mailed or a sent a script with her death scene. Yet another classy way to treat an actress who has been nothing but loyal for over 25 years, and it won't be because of money because she is recurring.

The only solace Michael has is Lauren because everyone else in his life takes and takes and Phyllis will do the same. Also, they are both higher energy actors. Lauren provides stability and balance for Michael, Phyllis won't. MAB hires 20 something actors to play Ryder and his sister, that few care about, but can't wait to get rid of actors like Tracey Bregman.

If MAB had a sense of her characters or her audience, she would realize that Lauren and Michael are a couple people root for so logically you should write them a story where they are forced to be a part not because they choose to but because of circumstances and we have to watch them fight their way back to each other. This cancer story, if given to actors like Tracey Bregman and Christian Le Blanc instead of Christel Kahlil and Daniel Goddard could have been gold, but she doesn't get it. They have so much difficulty creating couples who have chemistry and are good together, so what does MAB do? She wants to destroy one of the few couples that do work.

You posts are always well thought out. :-) I am surprised that people haven't figured out yet why MAB would possibly want to get rid of TB and waited until the last 2 months of the year to actually give TB a story and MS one as well. And unlike your post, my every instincts tell me that this has nothing at all to with any supposed hooking up of Michael and Phyllis because they are "best friends".

With that said, I love the Michael/Phyllis's friendship, it's actually the most endearing one on the show and being best friends should not be determined by a scale of who is there more for the other..that's not what best friendships are about. Now if Phyllis does toss Nick to the curb and Lauren dies I certainly don't want to see any thing romantic/sexual between these two. For once I would just like one soap to portray a true friendship and people just simply being there for each other, but then that would actually call for an intelligent writer to do that. Anyway sounds like there could be more to this anyway.

Yep!

But there is no need to kill Lauren. Just freaking break them up. The reasons for the break up don't have to make sense. Afterall, why should this story be the exception to that?:mad: Not that Lauren doesn't have plenty of reason to break up with Michael right now. Only a Saint would put up with his crazy family.

Oh, I have thought that MAB might have something personal against Tracey Bregman and to a lesser extent Christian Le Blanc for her to have neglected them as she has this year but there have been no rumors about any animosity and TEB and CLB are well liked and both said that MAB told them she liked them as a couple and didn't want to break them up yet she refuses to write for them.

I don't know what it is but it is probably more than just her wanting to pair Phyllis with Michael. As soon as she took over in late Dec 07, it was a little over a month into her regime when she wrote TEB and CLB off for 6 weeks and it wasn't until the end of the year (fall 2008) that she finally gave Michael the River story which was really about Gloria in the end. This year, they have once again been given no story and characters like Billy and Nick have been in 60 or more episodes that Michael and Lauren has been only on 35 times.

But beyond that I don't know why MAB dislikes Michael and Lauren so much. It just feels like it is more than just because they are happily married and over 45. And like someone said above, they could give them problems or break them up, but these rumors have been going on for 6 months (first it was said they wanted to get rid of Bregman quietly and then it would die down and every month or so the rumors would start again). Now there is the rumor they want to kill her off to make a Michael/Phyllis pairing. I think it has more to do with them wanting to turn the Fisher-Baldwins into the Fishers centered on Kevin minus the Baldwins and for whatever reason MAB does not like the characters of Michael and especially Lauren.

I have no problem with the Michael-Phyllis friendship and the fact that Michael gives much more than what he gets from Phyllis. I just think that Michael already is used to prop the rest of his family, as well as Daniel and Amber, so I have no desire to have to see him constantly dealing with Phyllis and her issues and that is what it would be. It is one thing to be there for her as a friend, but to be there as her romantic partner has no appeal to me. In the end, any romantic pairing would ruin what makes their relationship so good - a friendship without any romantic baggage.

And on a personal level, I really like Tracey Bregman as an actress and Lauren as a character and I don't want to see her go. So many other characters should go before a popular and proven vet who is already on recurring.

    • Watching the cult of Fetterman collapse is one of the few political bright spots for me. The best part  is watching all the people who built him up now decide they want to tear him down. I'll be fascinated to see how this ends for him. https://buckscountybeacon.com/2025/05/pennsylvanias-democratic-senator-john-fetterman-raises-alarms-with-outburst-at-meeting-with-union-officials/

    • Long ago, this Rachel fan channel uploaded a number of clips of Rachel with Felicia during the alcoholism story, and this one in particular stands out for me.

And then you have this scene, which is the dark mirror of the above, especially the final moment: By the late '80s, especially after Wallingford's death, those times were gone, and Donna Swajeski added further misery to Felicia with the Gold Street backstory. Luckily, after a bit of time the show found a good framing for this new twist on Felicia. The stories with finding and losing a love from her past, learning that a woman she hated was the daughter she'd spent years searching for, sinking into alcoholism, they all fit into the type of material suited for the '40s and '50s screen goddesses.  When Dano tried some of this old weepy type of material when she went back to ABC, it mostly fell flat, as the atmosphere wasn't the same and her character always felt shoehorned in. It worked perfectly at this period on AW because you had Iris, you had Rachel, you had Donna - you had a number of tough-but-vulnerable women of a certain age, most of them grandmothers by this point, but still trying to find love, find themselves. This is what AW could have had earlier if they hadn't dumped Pat and Alice, but better late than never. This is an approach you saw more often on British soaps than on US soaps, which for a number of years respected women in that age group. Both UK and US soaps have done away with this, both countries having the ladies devolve into perpetual ingenues (with added doses of endlessly self-aware camp in the UK) or just being shipped off entirely.  You could even see that on AW with the treatment of Iris (shipped off, never to be mentioned again, too old to return), Donna (repeatedly humiliated and crippled), Felicia (regressed into degrading herself with married John), Rachel (mother to newborn twins, put into lengthy periods of trauma through her new relationship with Carl).
    • I'm of a certain age where I caught some of Upton's final year and it was not great but Jean Holloway was worse. All I remember is Bambi, Bambi, Bambi!
    • Yes, of course, all of those servants added to the overall picture at AW & also people had relationships with those servants! I like it when Anita asks after one of the servants at the club, how their children are doing & like that.
    • Great scenes between Marlena and EJ today. Paula and Jeanne are making EJ have more depth than Ron had during his long drawn out tenure.
    • Might as well say it, Minority opinion, granted, but I like Joss & I'm okay with this WSB story & i hope that Emma will be their next recruit & she & Joss can be partners.
    • Thanks again @Paul Raven  The Arlene/Ben/Betsy triangle is one I wish I could see for myself as on paper it doesn't tend to excite me but I can see how well-constructed it was. I wish I could see the Rick/Meg relationship too, although I wish they'd had him genuinely fall for Meg after he gets together with Cal. The whole Brooke/Deacon/Bridget story on B&B was horribly damaging to Brooke as a character but it was dramatically very sound because I could completely believe Deacon would fall for messy and vulnerable Brooke after finally settling down with the more docile Bridget.
