Winehouse album due 'next year'

Amy Winehouse fans rejoice – the wait for her third album may soon be over. According to her record label Island, the follow-up to Back to Black will be released in 2010.

"I've heard a couple of song demos that absolutely floored me," Island co-president Darcus Beese said. "Hopefully, we'll have her album next year."

Now at this point we should probably warn you that Winehouse is not known for her punctuality. Since the singer released Back to Black in 2006, her recording career has taken a back seat while she battled alcohol and drug problems and became fodder for the tabloid press. Her rocky relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil ended earlier this year in divorce, and the star spent a period of time living in St Lucia.

Understandably, fans haven't expected to hear much in the way of new material. However, this latest announcement supports statements made last year by Universal chief executive Lucian Grange, who said he'd heard some new material that sounded "sensational".

It is believed that Winehouse's new songs have been written with Back to Black partner Salaam Remi, although Island Records admitted that the singer had been working "in fits and starts".

While we wait for the third Winehouse album, you'll be able to buy her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield's debut LP on Monday. The 13-year-old is signed to Winehouse's own record label, Lioness.

This kind of thing makes me glad I'm a fan of 70's music. At that time, an artist almost ALWAYS released two albums per year, one at the very LEAST. Now, people's favoite singers release an album once every 5 years.. MAYBE. IT would be depressing as hell to not have anyhting to listen to but the same 12 songs for a 3-5 years waiting for the next release.

Oh, most everybody released at least one per year. Artists were just alot more prolific... I would be bummed if I liked today's music... you might find someone you like, but there's so little of it! As for who? Well, The Bee Gees, Elton John, Olivia Newton John... most all the big artists, with a few exception... some groups had internal problems.

In other related news, Winehouse recently recorded Smoke It Like You Mean It. "It's pretty catchy," the producer says, "it might even be the third single after Blowing Smoke In Your Face and This Is Whack! We expect her to record a new song sometime next year."

Excitingness!!!!!!!

He first album was a jazz/pop album and didn't have any retro influences. I thought it was much better. Know Me Now, [!@#$%^&*] Me Pumps, I Heard Love Is Blind (her best song yet...killer delivery) and Amy Amy Amy.

Amy Winehouse may wrap up work on her third album within the next two weeks according to her father.

Mitch Winehouse said on radio this week “She's writing all the time and when she's got the poetry, she can go into the studio and she's quite capable of doing the album in two weeks”.

According to Mitch, "I've heard a couple of songs from it. It's not dissimilar from the second album Back To Black - it's going to be great".

The yet-to-be named album will follow-up the Grammy Award winning ‘Back to Black’ from 2006 and ‘Frank’ from 2003.

Amy worked on the album in St. Lucia with producer Salaam Remi.

Universal expect to release the album in 2010.

This is good, I never thought she'd live long enough to record another song let alone work on an album.

I have heard so many bad albums pumped out just to take advantage of a hit record. So I'd prefer that artists take a break until they have some good new material to release.
