Y&R is such a dissppointment, it saddens me that their shock driven and stunt driven crap gave them a ratings boost.

But anyway, these stunts have very little long-term value, so I expect a massive falling soon.

At least this rise didn't occur during a sweeps month, you know, when it actually matters.

I've never understood the point of these stunts. The shows that use them religiously get a bump in the ratings for a week or two, then their ratings fall back to the same pre-stunt levels, if that. If these kind of things were well thought out, the writers would have enough compelling story to hold new and lapsed viewers, but they never do. It's all for nothing really, and the shows wind up harming themselves by destroying core families, or characters which trace their history back to core families. I'm also concerned that soaps now see death, and the emotional fallout by the hospital bedside or funeral as a way to snag an Emmy. Y&R did it with Cassie's death, then John's death. B&B did it will Storm's suicide. It's almost become a formula. I hope it's not a trend but it sure seems to be.

I wonder how CBS did without GL actually I want to see the ratings for the gameshow in its place.

If it's not too difficult to find out, could someone please post the numbers for the game show that replaced GL? I'm curious to see its results from all the markets and different time slots that GL had to put up with. Did the # of markets increase for the game show after GL ended? Did the time slots become uniform across the country now that it was no longer GL? IOW, how much was the replacement for GL helped by the network/affiliates so it would hopefully do better than GL right away and did that help produce a good result? Thanks. :)

Does it really matter anymore who is in the number 1 spot since there are now only 7 soaps on the air and they are all neck and neck for the most part.

Agreed....and with the exceptions of Y&R and B&B, none of the other 5 are within .1 of one another.

Of course 1st place matters. LOL 1st place = last soap on the air.

Y&R

Monday: 3.9/5,386,000

Tuesday: 3.9/5,332,000

Wednesday: 3.9/5,526,000

Wow, that is still pretty amazing. Even though the stories aren't great, the potential audience is still there. And that's 478,000 viewers in the last 3 weeks. Y&R's stunt worked (in terms of ratings....I'm not a fan of the story) because that's 3 straight weeks of gaining Total Viewers. GH's stunt didn't work because it went down 2 straight weeks after their one week gain.

So OLTL is dead last in total viewers. But on the bright side, they still have a firm grip on the middle in key demos.

I doubt any of them have much of future. The only thing keeping them alive is the lingering question of what will work better as a replacement. In my opinion, daytime soaps, as we currently know them, will soon be nothing more than a part of entertainment history.

What is interesting to me about the "number one" is whether that soap and its creators will re-define daytime, or whether that soap will only be the last to go.

This gives such a green light, if they even needed one, to slaughter any cast members they deem unimportant, all for stunts and shock value. They don't need to bother building characters, or pacing storylines properly, or respecting history. The ratings lead the way.

I'm not really surprised, but it's kind of sad, especially when I think of what they might have in store from now on.

I'm tired of being sad. I feel like I've been in mourning since GL's cancellation was announced and I'm just waiting for the next to drop. It's rather ghoulish when you think about it. I just can't do it anymore, and I'm sorry but I'm not being entertained, so what's the point? I've hung on this long because I miss talking to you guys, but I feel more disenfranchised than anything, with a tad bit of guilt thrown in for giving up.
