He's really outdone himself this year.

TV Guide's Most powerful players

I personally think it's funny CC is talking about the next season of her web thing, consdiering the first hasn't been filmed yet, and from what I can tell, the production meetings involved getting tuned and twittering kinda sketchy photos of CC in sponge bob pajamas. And do a whole lot of press about something that is still a concept, not an actual show.

Otherwise, it's a funny read!

I don't know what to love more. Telling us never to underestimate a Bell after spending a year endlessly overhyping the Bell in the first place. Praising MAB for adding a "touch of the rainbow" when that rainbow consists of a glorified extra whose only story was about reinforcing ugly stereotypes about gays, and a botched return who also reinforced negative gay stereotypes and burned through his entire story in 2 weeks. Repeatedly praising Thom Bierdz as a "major contract player" and breaking new ground, not mentioning that he appears a few days out of a month if he's lucky, and saying zilch about Scott Evans, who has had far more airtime, even though he isn't on contract. Telling us that Tony Geary is the most powerful actor at GH. Telling us that Jeanne Cooper has finally become a good actress.

I think this is my favorite part.

Translation: You're supposed to join me at (insert hip tavern here) and talk about who has the biggest package, not honor a soap I hated! You got Ellen Wheeler cooties!

It's crazy because if you are going to name all those liabilities for MAB, then why not any for Rauch? Or are we supposed to believe that MAB is the only one who has basically turned Y&R's longtime integrated canvas into a town so regressive, I keep expecting to see a story where Devon is attacked for drinking from the whites only fountain?

Yep, they definitely have more autonomy and I love that they do because MAB & her crew / Sony will be held responsible for what happens to the show because it is so obvious that MAB will not tolerate anyone pushing her around or telling her she has made mistakes. Sometime one has to know when to be humble!

I love it though because it makes it easier for CBS to do what it has to do in the long run, they have already made the 1st strike. The show is now in a form of performance-based licensing agreement so if MAB thinks she is such a hot turnaround specialist she better perform and have a spanking brilliant growing show during the next 2 years. :D Y&R can be replaced and I do believe they actually are arrogant enough to think they can't be. I wouldn't wager the rest of my 401K plan on that.

And all the actors better start moonlighting a lot more. <_<

See now I choose to look at this list in a positive manner, it lists most of the people actively destroying daytime. I'll keep it handy should I encounter any of them in the wild.

Oh and Imaginary Bitches was not a soap opera, it was a comedy, perhaps someone should tell him that. Maybe someone should tell that to the Daytime Emmys as well.

Martha was essentially let go from a role she played for 20 years and took a short term go nowhere role on GH and is now writing for a show that hates it's writers on B&B. That's some power!

Thom Bierdz is one power move from being fired.

Perhaps he should have really looked at his options in this sad and depleted soap opera landscaped and narrowed his list down to ten. He clearly ran out of candidates at some point.

    • Also, the lawsuit story was not the right story to bring Naomi and Bill into a court battle since those types of lawsuits are usually resolved via settlements.
    • I know that Sara did eventually become Carrie's therapist, but I was curious if the show had her make comments regarding Carrie's stunts of making it seem as though Justin was cheating on Jackie.  Given that Justin cheated on Sara with both Jackie and Brandy, I wondered if it was wise of her to counsel Carrie given the conflict of interest involved. @DRW50I think once Adam/Sara end up married.. Marland didn't see any reason to explore Sara's personal life after the actor playing Adam was released.  I know that Sara lasts until at least Christmas 1982 on the show.. but I don't think she ended up staying on for very long into 1983. The period between Marland quitting and Pam Long starting was the perfect time to clean house on characters that had outgrown their usefulness  (i.e. Ben, Evie, Sara, Jennifer, Morgan).. and tying up stories started by Marland that were too complex (Mona Enright, Mark/Jennifer/Amanda triangle).
    • Unpopular opinion:  The focus on the soap opera tropes over the mysteries and crimes was partly what did the show in.  Also, featuring characters not involved in the legal, police, and criminal elements also hurt the show and took away what made it unique. Featuring characters like Jody, Raven, Sky, etc hurt the show long term.  The show ABCified starting in 1976/1977 and then went through a youthification period starting in 1981.
    • I feel like the lawsuit storyline was resolved quickly because the show didn’t want to spring for more sets.
    • It's been a while, but we have seen the foyer to Bill and Hayley's house as well as the exterior entrance to their house. The foyer was first seen in the premiere episode when Hayley met Vanessa at the house.
    • There's still a year or two before Larkin arrives. Joel is there already. EON does noticeably youthify, although I think they carry it off. Admittedly I haven't seen most of the Jody stories, which from what people here have said aren't great.
    • I don't mind the actor who plays Brian. He's fine. The problem for me is that Paige seems so wishy wishy. She doesn't seem to have much of a personality at this point so I don't see why Brian would be so besotted with her. She just lurches from one trauma to the next. Granted, it's only been a month, but she's not as vibrant as April or even Deborah who has had minimal screen time by this point.  I do worry about the influence of GH on the show since I'm in fall of 1979 and characters have conversations and there's not the drive to "youthify" the show. However, I think Marceau (sp?) is gone. He was given a rather tame sendoff. How long was the actor on the show? I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I worry the show is setting up a murder mystery around one of my favorite characters and I will be mightily annoyed. I also noticed in recent Search for Tomorrow episodes uploaded to YT that the actors playing Logan and Eliot showed up. I don't watch the show but they were in the screencaps. When does Larkin Malloy show up or has he already left? Joel Crothers hasn't shown up either unless I've blinked and missed him.
    • Dr Linden. She treated Vanessa's drug addiction (although Vanessa seemed to forget that by Henry's suicide attempt) , and she's mentioned during Reva's PPD. Although I can't recall if she's actually shown right off the top of my head. She probably was temporarily shelved when Sonni was a therapist (between her crazy times) And I think Billy sees her after he falls off the wagon after Reva's death.
