Does anyone know to whom Joan Collins was referring to when she mentioned that the producers had recast Roger and the audience would be surprised at who it was?

I've always suspected that they had cast someone connected to DYNASTY - like maybe Gordon Thomson or Michael Nader - but I have no real way of knowing whether that's true.

No...but given that it's Joan Collins, maybe Michael Nader? I can't really see her thinking fans would be excited unless it was someone previously connected to her.

I believe in some interview (video or print) , she actually stated it was Michael Nader. But even then, I sorta thought it was just wishful casting on Joan's part.  I really never believed Michael Nader had been cast, or even seriously considered.  I'm not even convinced Roger's return was seriously considered.  I think Joan may have taken a conversation with Paul Rauch too seriously -- while to Rauch, that conversation may have been nothing more than "thinking out loud."

I can see that. I'd kind of expect Joan to have rolled up, expecting/suggesting that she needed a love interest, and "hey, my pal Michael's already done a NY soap."

Yes, exactly.  And Rauch probably replied, "I'll think about it."  LOL.

For me, 1997-98 was probably the last year I could stomach GL on a steady basis; and even then, I stomached it with much lower expectations, lol.

Was your end point Annie Dutton parachuting off the plane?

No, I was fed up with Annie and her obsession with Josh long before then, lol.

For sure, the cloning storyline was the turning point for me and my "relationship" with GL.  No matter how crazy other soaps had become, I always could count on GL (and Y&R) remaining above the fray.  "The Cloning of Reva Shayne," however, changed all that for me.

Does anyone know who what singers/groups appeared on GL in '82? I've caught the B-52's, Judy Collins, Jennifer Holliday, Ashford and Simpson and Bertie Higgins. (The cast seems to enjoy Jennifer Holliday the most, imo) I read somewhere that Huey Lewis and the News also appeared. Does anyone remember if they did? I love them.

This would have been a year or so after Michael was let go from AMC due to his issues so I think P&G would have been wary.

I'm sure RR would've been a decent new character. Recasts are so tricky and depend on so much. And with Ross stepping into the role of Phillip's father so early, I never really felt the need for Justin's return. Even though I would've always welcomed Tom O'Rourke back.

I appreciated the Ross/Philip relationship, but I never thought it was strong enough to where the full absence of Justin for all those years was warranted. I think there was still story for him, and I might have brought Jackie back from the dead - maybe she had to fake her death because of some criminal activity she witnessed, or something along those lines. She might have started a new family while she was in hiding.

I agree there was plenty of story for Justin, but part of the reason why I didn't miss Justin is that GA kept leaving. It would've been very interesting though to see Bev McKinsey and Tom O'Rourke kind of fighting for Phillip's soul, so to speak.

I would have liked that.

Bringing Tom back when John Bolger was there could have worked, as it's not like he worked long with Grant anyway.
