Yeah - I'm wondering if Amanda/nuRoger were sidelined for a bit as they figured out the Zaslow situation, or maybe they just always planned for the Reva trial to take up most of that month.

Harley mentioned Nadine's death briefly when she returned for a week in January 1997 for the 60th anniversary party. She just said she was sad to have missed all these significant moments (Nadine's funeral, A-M/Lucy's wedding)... but then she decides to return to catch Jenna thieving? Dumb.

Wow. Just another example what the show thinks of major characters/actors.

Poor Alan. Annie never was in love with him. He fell for it hook, line and sinker.

The show fired Zaslow. They knew he wasn't coming back. With his majorly reduced contract of only 2 days a week (due to the stress of the amount of work they gave him in 96 with his speech issue), I think the storyline for Roger is what you are seeing, unfortunately.

I like reading the re-caps, because it keeps things in perspective and fills in holes of episodes I skip through. So much filler.

Happy to hear it! :)  I'll keep doing them, since I'm doing them for my future self anyway!

Philip became fauxAlan-Michael by hanging at the diner more than at Spaulding Enterprises.

Ha...yes, there is Spaulding in (or should be) in turmoil (Alex gone, Amanda now Alan's sister with a will leaving part of Spaulding to her, Alan more interested in getting Josh's left overs then he is grabbing his company back) and Phillip is...having coffee at the diner, sniffing after his brother's ex wife and listing to Buzzard bellow. I mean, I know the year before was bad, but this crap is just a bit of a step up and it still sucks, how could GL get more improved?

I wonder if Amanda was to be the fauxAlexandra like Phillip became the fauxAlan-Michael, but the backlash with Michael being fired caused them to write Amanda off the show.

I still don't get how Buzz became so dang popular that he won several Emmys!

@P.J.  LOL You sure hate Nadine!  I wish she stayed over Buzz. If I had my way, Nadine would have first became a real estate agent then a real estate broker...making mega bucks herself.

In watching bits and pieces of 1992/1993/1994/1995/1996/1997, I see how good Melissa Hayden was and how the show should have focused more on Bridget.  Bridget should have had a full-blown love triangle going.   She seemed more attractive than annoying Dinah to me. Too bad the actors they picked for Hart after the 1st one, don't have good chemistry with her.  I would have had her have a bit of a closer relationship with Roger, to cause the friction needed with the Chamberlins.

In a choice between Nadine and Buzz....I'll plead the fifth! :)

And any other show would've recognized the talent and gone with it. She was this show's Tricia Cast.

@alwaysAMC I hope you keep on with your recaps. In part because I'm fascinated with guessing how far you'll go. Sometimes I try to refrain on commenting because I don't want to rain on your parade, and not having rewatched, I don't have much to add other than finding another insulting name to call ****.  lol

I did recently rewatch some of Vanessa's rehab in Switzerland. I liked Peter Herrmann in the role of Michael Burke. And Vanessa seemed to regain some of her spunk away from ****. It's a little disheartening to see that TIIC had her speak some bilge about not having anything to live for if **** had moved on. There's no way Vanessa would speak that with her kids in Springfield. SMH. That's another thing I admire about '89-'93 GL---the adults aren't acting like lovesick teenagers.

Thank goodness for the FF! LOL I tried the rest of 1997 and hit the FF so much.

All of what I watched of the final 15 years was from 1997 and early 1998.

LOL - feel free to keep calling **** various names, I'm assuming at some point I'll start to think the same way if I keep watching :)  But I'll keep up the recaps/thoughts; my parade has umbrellas. I actually look forward to reading my journal 10 years from now with some wine. It'll evoke some fun memories.

I'm in the thick of Michael Burke and very curious to see what happens. I currently don't like him, but we'll see if that changes. I'll post my next recap this weekend because I've been able to get through quite a bit this week.

While I love Vanessa and really enjoy this storyline, because it's good soap opera generally, I've always had that feeling in the back of my mind since her initial car wreck where she allowed her kids/family to think she 'died'. I just find it hard to believe, through every iteration of her decision-making, that she would be ok living (or not living) a life without her kids around.

August 22 1989. See also for fabulousness the entire Van/Holly exchange.

FYI, the reason Van calling anyone a hothouse flower is an insult---when HB first met her, he called her a hothouse flower. And she hated it.

Ouch...on rewatch, Van doesn't call Nadine a hothouse flower, she said Ross likes hothouse flowers. Which isn't exactly a compliment on his taste. But Nadine is less than a hothouse flower, she's ordinary. LOL.

lol...okay, today's **** nickname....Shrimpy McNutter.

No, Van wouldn't melt at the idea of **** moving on, and she wouldn't have left her kids. The sun rose and set on Bill when he was young.

LOL - oh Shrimpy, poor ****. For now, I'll enjoy the shrimp :)

That's what I assumed about Vanessa's feelings for Bill as a child. One day I will watch that. I'm currently at his graduation and she showed up to watch him graduate and give a speech, which I applaud because I couldn't imagine she would miss a milestone like that if she didn't have to... but then it was a bit cheesy that she's there on stage next to him with no disguise and no one recognizes her LOL.  I'll accept the unbelievability over her missing it completely.

Oh, the return of Vanessa's huge hat syndrome! Van used to love hats back in the early '80's.

Haha yes! I actually thought about the old clips I'd seen of Vanessa when she was wearing her huge hat... but that only works as a disguise from behind LOL.

I stumbled across this June 1989 episode and I'm so glad I did. First, I've always enjoyed Rick and Philip's friendship, and Philip has a face that sometimes needs to be smacked, so watching Rick getting some licks in is satisfying.

But more importantly, Beth Ehlers left a bad taste in my mouth with her stint at AMC, and I haven't been that interested in her on GL in 1997, but this episode makes me actually interested in Harley. She and Dylan have some strong chemistry here and the background music of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" enhances this for me 1000x over. I love strong, emotionally charged scenes that are enhanced by good music, and this episode did it for me. I assume Harley and Dylan don't last long at all, based on what I've seen in the 90s, but gosh they had some chemistry here. Starts at the 1:00 mark. And LOL at her starting the same song over again on the jukebox at 21:30. She really reminds me of Jennifer Grey in this episode, definitely from Dirty Dancing with the curls.

Also, bonus watching Billy and Marah making cookies together, very cute.

I think she also said she just couldn't face going to Nadine's funeral.

Thanks for the audition @Liberty City I'd never seen that. The volume is so low it's hard to tell, but is Kim not doing the big Southern accent?

Oh she had her southern accent on full display there. Thanks, @Liberty City for posting.  I think at the time, Billy and Reva had way more chemistry than Josh and Reva, but I get Josh's more reserved/sensitive side, and I think it ultimately worked out for Jeva. Gosh, that audition was just before I was born haha.
