And Elizabeth..whatever happened to her..did they ever say she died? I always wish she came back, more confident and ready to take on Alan (she had money of her own, right?) I would have loved Collins as Elizabeth, but her hyper confident self would make it a stretch.

Speaking of stretches, I wish they had left wiggle room for the real Spaulding heir to be alive....(some cockamany storyline where a crazed nurse took him and brought him back and then raised him as her own...and of course ole Rog would have found him)and comes back. He would be Alan on steroids and then watch Phillip squirm...(I love GA/Phillip but he ALWAYS was so entitled, even crying about that entitlement. )

I don't think they ever said Elizabeth died. I have a very vague recollection of her name popping up randomly (maybe around the time Phillip faked his death?), but much like Lanie Marler, she just faded from everyone's memory.

LOL...I guess that was one line the soap couldn't cross. Although, with some of the bad regimes, thank GOD someone like McTrash didn't try.

It was a huge mistake never to bring Elizabeth back on canvas - it would have helped the character of Phillip so much in those later years.  I always pictured her still living in Switzerland, perhaps struggling with mental illness on and off, trying to protect Phillip from her bouts with instability.  Mike may have even found his way back to her.  At some point, Mike could have reached out to Phillip to let him know Elizabeth needed him, and Phillip's reunion with his stepmother would have taken Alan and Phillip back a thousand years in their own troubled trajectory.  However they did it, something should have been done with this missing link in Phillip's adult story: Elizabeth having nothing to do with her beloved "son" made zero sense, especially after Jackie's death.

I actually entertained the whole real Spaulding heir twist as well - especially when Ben Warren came to town.  I thought he should have claimed to be the real son.  Maybe this could prompted Elizabeth's return.  Hated the whole Ross half-brother thing, although it was good casting: Hunt Block looked like he could be ver Dorn and O'Rourke's brother, as well as Aleksander's uncle.

Wasn't there rumours that Gregory Beecroft was a difficult actor to work with?  Vincent Irizzary revealed in an interview (was it a Locher interview?) about an actor on the show when he began who was very jealous of him and things became physical, the other actor assaulted him.  Online speculation grew that it was Beecroft.

MacGregor looked and sounded like he could be Peter Simon's son.  It was very good casting.  Likewise, Aleksander looked like he could have been Tom O'Rourke's son and Jerry ver Dorn's nephew.  The Marler men had good "matinee idol" genes.

Not necessarily.  You could argue that, in the years away from Springfield (and from Alan), Elizabeth regained her self-confidence and self-respect, becoming a much-sought-after celebrity photographer like Annie Leibovitz and Herb Ritts.

Question - who is this amazing sax player that plays the GL theme song at the end of this July 4th episode?  I've seen him in maybe 2 scene between Feb-June '95, working at the Towers, but curious if he has a backstory and was a main character at some point?  Btw, I LOVE the Towers set, so glamorous for the time and I love how everyone dresses up.

That's Hamp, played by Vince Williams. He was introduced as an old friend of Billy's and was married to Gilly for a while. I believe he was still contract at this point, though he didn't appear often after he and Gilly divorced and his daughter, Kat, left town. Williams passed away in 1997.

Sadly, Vince was only 39 when he passed. I didn't realize until recently that he had also briefly played Lamar Griffin on ATWT prior to becoming Hamp in '89. He first appeared during Josh and Reva's Cross Creek wedding.

GL was blessed with some really fine musicians over the years. Millette Alexander was a concert pianist. Kathleen Cullen, Krista Teserau and Vincent Irizzary (as Lujack) also played piano on the show. Tom Nielson also played sax.

Isn't he wonderful?!!! The actor, Vince Williams, the character Hampton Speakes, usually called Hamp. Died way too young. I'm a sucker for sax solos & I liked the character other times, too. One of my favorite songs from way back when is  "Yakety Sax", a playful and high-energy saxophone melody. The song was originally composed by Boots Randolph and James Q. "Spider" Rich, with Boots Randolph himself playing that iconic sax solo. The latter has zero to do with GL, sorry.

BTW have you ever in your whole life seen anyone sexier that Maureen Garrett, Holly I mean, of course.?!!

    • No idea if this one had ever been up before or what the exact date is, but it's always good to look at/save the new AMC content while you can. If you're here for the drama there is some delirium with Adam and Erica about 10-12 minutes in.

    • I think there's a story to tell in someone who always believed in honesty and integrity being emmeshed in so many lies, but I agree that it wasn't very well laid out over the last few months. I think if I was more invested in Lois, I would have more of an issue than I do. Few can hold up against Jane. This is one of those cases where I think mentioning who already switched babies or have long-lost children would just take away from the fallout. If Lulu wants to drag Brook Lyn for hypocrisy there is probably still time (if the show bothers). I don't think anyone would claim these are the best GH episodes ever. It may be very lowered expectations at play. But I do think that scenes like yesterdays were some of Tracy's best, as she is a character who is often not allowed that type of moment.
    • You would think that, wouldn't you? I'd almost think they needed the money to get Robert Newman back, but they also had to know Larkin wasn't going to stick around and play second banana either. I don't get what the writers thought they were doing with Calla. Long liked using actors from Texas, but other than Alex/Bev McKinsey, the characters she wrote for them seemed blah.
    • Bo has a bad history with kids named Zach. (too soon?)
    • Christie said in her interview this week that she recently started taking acting classes again, and has been doing some work in England, so that helped her to jump into Carrie for this (as well as it being all so familiar, it really was home.)
    • Andrea Barber aka Kimmy Gibbler did have a few scenes with Drake too, when he first came on. Christie came in the middle of that storyline
    • Carrie, as played by Andrea Barber, was at Bo & Hope's wedding. She was the flower girl. The ringbearer was Zachary Parker, the little boy that Megan tried to pass off as her and Bo's son. Andrea's Carrie was at Tony & Anna's real wedding (Aug. 5, 1985). She appeared for the last time on March 21, 1986. Christie's Carrie debuted on April 14, 1986. It appears that Carrie remained in Salem, just off-screen, during that near-month. Christie picked up with what Andrea had been playing, apprehension over John.
    • I don't think she is. I think she just created some really boring characters and for some reason doesn't know what to do with them.  But let's say that she is being force to write these characters that she doesn't like or want to write for.......that's a really bad sign that the creator of the show is being told what to do from the very beginning.  With so many EPs, I was worried there could be too many cooks in the kitchen, too many people giving notes - all those EPs are representing companies who have a stake in the show.    Canada continues to be one episode ahead. Thursday's US episode is another lacklustre episode, even with Leslie in it.  We'll see if Friday or Monday's episode in Canada will be a repeat.
    • Like a lot of soaps, once relatives left, they kinda dropped off the face of the earth and out of conversations. I don't know why writers do that. If they just don't want to confuse viewers, or don't think it matters, or want the liberty kind of revise history to make their stories work. After Josh left in '84, he's barely mentioned. Even when Billy's railing against Kyle and refusing to accept him, it'd be the most natural thing in the world to say "Kyle's NOT by brother, JOSH is!" and I don't think he ever really says that.  The only writer I can recall who didn't do that is Doug Marland on ATWT.
    • IIRC, there is a line during this time period where Reva says something like Marah is her first-born child, which fans were not thrilled with.  Dylan makes a few appearances through the rest of the show (and a much later recast that isn't really worth talking about, with a face that is familiar to you). He will make one briefly during 1997, if you get that far.
