From the May 1972 Daytime TV.

Madeline Sherwood (Betty Eiler) and Graham Jarvis (Charles Eiler) finished their roles in January. Lee Richardson, playing police captain Jim Swanson, and David Pendleton (Gil Mehron) also completed their parts. Jeanne Arnold, as Mrs. Ellen Mason, mother of Janet, returned to the cast in January.

I think Lee Lawson was miscast as Bea. I have not seen a daily grind of her character, just episodes and clips here and there, but she always seems too perky to make me believe she's a hard-working, poor-but-proud, single mother of 4-5 kids.

Barbara seems like a pill to me, although apparently that was her role.

Thanks for sharing your opinion Carl. I just can't get caught up in those characters and I usually like the mother figures/vets the most. I just find them boring and out of place. That sounds harsh though, but when I compare them to characters of today, I would take themm.

Unfortunately most of Barbara's time in the story is not around, and most of what we see is her hovering over Holly, and complaining about Roger, and bitching about Rita, which gets on my last nerve, although apparently Rita was despised by many viewers at the time, so I guess Barbara represented them. She isn't a mother figure in my eyes, as she has no real role in that capacity. She mostly just reacts to Holly.

I'm not sure if she was a better character when Stanley Norris was around and she had both Ken and Holly to interact with.

I think that she's probably a very realistic character, and soaps did need those. But when she's in scenes with Bert you can see the big difference in how vital the characters were.

If you compare Barbara Norris to her role as Bridget on Another World, you can see that Barbara Berjer could show different sides in her performances. So I can totally understand not like Barbara Norris as she wasn't the most sympathetic of characters.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.

    • Lol.  I love that this board still allows misinformation from a bad source.
    • Thanks @kalbir what a time to have enjoyed the peak of the primetime soaps. Haha you’re good. The only complaint I have with Lorraine’s death as I mentioned recently in the FC thread was it was overkill, and all we got Apollonia. If a pregnant woman had to be killed off, I would’ve chosen just killing off Robin instead in some freak accident or in the explosion at Richard’s to save us from us that disaster lol.    Did Hotel have a cliffhanger that year? I imagine if Hotel had been soapier we would’ve had cliffhangers like the hotel catching on fire or bombed by an ex-lover of Christine. Peter pisses everyone off and is shot in his office. Or a major Golden age star like a Olivia de Havilland shows and tells how she originally owned the Hotel and how Victoria Cabot & Laura Trent stole it from her but now she owns it etc.
    • The whole AMC 2.0 pulled it together in mere weeks to get a show up and running, with scripts and a cast.

Ginger Smith seemed really passionate about being in the executive producer position, and I think she really did a fantastic job in six weeks. It was just well done.
    • I totally didn’t pick up on that. Just perfect! I don’t get the Maurice Johnson hate around here at all. He didn’t take me out of the scenes at all. I understood everything he was portraying. It was great. I do wonder if there will be a personality shift with the new actor, whom I’m still not excited about. Exactly. Right? I’m in the exact same boat as you. Agree with most of this except I never found anything off with Ted, didn’t suspect a thing. I just watched yesterday’s episode and it was one of the best soap episodes I’ve seen in a very long time. I was enthralled the entire time. Just fantastic.
    • Yep! Very curious to see where this goes.
    • I was confused too, but I think it was always a "tribute thread" (this one and OLTL's were created when their cancellations were announced). They just changed the show abbreviations to their titles spelled out, I guess to make the board just a little bit more uniform. I was lost, too lol
