But it really was good then and now it isn't. I don't see why it's losing face to admit things have changed. MAB was doing quite well last fall/winter, but then things took a very morbid turn with Adam killing his sibling in utero, MJ poisoning a child, two rapes, cancer, a dead cat corpse being lugged over hill and dale and the killing of a beloved family pet( and that's just a sample of the crap they've handed us over the summer).

The soap press isn't worth their salt if they can't admit things have taken a turn for the worse. Unless they really believe this is good soap, in which case, I have no words. Nothing like light, soapy, summer fare to keep the audience tuning in!!

The show was better then, but still had flaws. I thought the forged diary story was a plot-driven, ham-fisted number on Adam and did few favors to Jack, Victor's abusive behavior towards Nikki and the show's treatment of Nikki was mortifying, Chloe's antics to make Cane look like her baby daddy were cheap, and the Tyra story was almost as bad then as it is now. At the time the soap press acted like Y&R was the utmost again and they don't want to suddenly reverse course.

They are also likely afraid of losing show support for being seen as negative, and as sinking their revenue if fans tune out and stop getting subscriptions. Fans can afford to be negative, but the soap magazines can't, at least not with the soaps that bring in the money when they give them covers and glowing press. It's probably the same reason SOD never seriously goes off on GH.

This could actually interesting: maybe little Richie was once at Neverland as a guest...

and MJ told him...

...if you're ever on a soap try to get the writers to put you in a storyline where you screw your aunt.
