I'm sure there are some novelists, particularly in the romantic suspense genre, who might like the chance to tackle a soap.

Look at Michael Malone-he knew nothing about soaps, but got hooked and produced some good stuff.

One writer I can think of is Carlene Thompson-has anyone read her?

Are there other writers you think could work on a soap?

Because she died?

But I get what you mean, novelists like her.

I thought she was still alive and living in the south of France? I know her hubby passed away, though.

Darn if it's true. She went to my college. I was all ready to write to her and pull the alma mater card.

Nah, she's still alive. She's got to be in her early 80s or so, though, so I'm sure she's not interested in working in daytime anymore.

A hybrid between a daytime soap (shot on video), a prime time soap and a telenovela, this 65-episode show apparently only aired in Europe.

With Jaime Lyn Bauer, David Birney, Sherilyn Wolter, Timothy Gibbs, and penned by Bob Guza, Patrick Mulcahey, Sally Sussman Morina, and produced by Jon Conboy. Check out the closing credits. It was New World Television, which didn't surprise me because it seemed kind of "Santa Barbara-ish" in places.

Jaime Lyn Bauer has three clips of it on her website.

Why did we never see this in the US? It boggles the mind....

Oh, wow! This brough back memories. I watched this when I was around 11 years old. It aired in my country, The Bahamas, during the early 90s. It was awesome and reminded me of a cross between 'The Bold And The Beautiful' and 'Dynasty.'

Good show

Where was secrets taped? In Generations' vacant stage?

And is it possible that Secrets, although a mini-series for the rest of the world, was initially a pilot John Conboy/New World tried to sell to a cable network, (then) net-let FOX, or first-run syndication, as he had attempted to do with Capitol when it ended?

According to the credits it must have been filmed in Italy: the staff is all Italian...

The only Americans were the writers/producers and actors.

Not to go off topic, but what happened with the talk about John Conboy's soap that was supposed to be for ABC, "Casino"or something like that. It was after Capitol ended ABC had an interest in him.

I've only read about Casino in one source and that's Gerald Waggett's Soap Opera Book of Lists. But I think it was proposed when Conboy was still doing Capitol, it may have been for another network but I'm pretty sure he still had his CBS gig at the time. As I said in a post back in February, I think Conboy really had a thing for Vegas. He obviously appreciated glitz, and he counted folks the likes of Liberace as friends... he set a lot of the action on Capitol in an Atlantic City casino and he brought Miss Showgirl herself Lola Falana onto the show as Charity Blake.

I can't believe ABC(at the time) actually considered airing something that shallow.

Totally. Honestly, I think it sounded more like an NBC soap to me, I could totally imagine something like that coming on after Santa Barbara. I'm chuckling to myself imagining the camptastic over the top sets and costumes, a soap set in Felicia Gallant's brain.

Very interesting info, SFK. I wonder where ABC would have put it. Maybe it was a concept for when Edge ended.
