I think because they new that would be more heartbreaking for some reason. I suppose because of the way the character was introduced. I feel like I saw a lot more of Cassie's childhood then Noah's, so her death had a bigger impact.

If so, that was a bad reason. KMac on GH is far from a great beauty, but she's very popular (although not with me) because people saw her grow up. I wasn't watching GH when she was a child so I don't have that feeling for her, but I think people did have that for CG.

Basic premise: Camryn Grimes is popular, and I think they'll want to bring her back some day.

1. When stressed, Sharon loses time.

2. Sharon sold her baby, you may recall to a shady lawyer.

3. But that shady lawyer did an inexplicable thing. Rather than make the profit, he GAVE the baby to his skanky girlfriend, Alice.

4. Why might the skanky lawyer have foregone profit. What if he inadvertently got a TWOFER? So he sold one, and kept the buy-one-get-one extra for Alice?

5. How could Sharon not know this? Because she LOSES TIME.

See with John dying I was 50/50. Yes, his death was sad. But to be honest, John was an older gentlemen who lived a good long life. Cassie was just a young girl who had her entire life ahead of her. So, I didn't cry when John died, but I was saddened just the same.

Please, no Cassie twins. In life, we eventually lose our loves ones. Let Cassie RIP. What would a twin accomplish? It's not like Sharon ever had a chance to see this twin grow up, so it would just be the same as Sharon having another baby. It's not like they can call the twin Cassie.

By killing Cassie, they also threw away their next generation Newman heroine, even if she wasn't a blood Newman. Summer doesn't cut it, because she's from a much younger generation than Cassie is, and Summer should be an Abbott. :)

Y&R missed its chance having its own Kimberly McCullough by killing off Cassie. She could have been to Y&R what Robin is to GH. A character and actress we saw grow up and one we have a deeper connection to as an audience, simply because we saw evolve and grow up before our very eyes, which we didn't see with other characters.

Random question: But when Ashley ends up leaving Victor (that has to happen at some point) - are there any men on the show that she's even suited for? There don't seem to be any men on the canvas that fit for her at all! The character is supposed to be in her mid-40's right?

The only one i can think of is Paul and that doesn't sound too appetizing. Perhaps Michael, but theyre not breaking up Likey from what the writers have said.

Exactly.

Also, of course, John's death was a horrible mistake. The show lost its center. They've tried to recover (ghost, Alistair), and that's a fine bandaid. But given how relatively little impact John's death had (sure, there was some cool fighting over the will and stuff), it was a mistake. Plus, for the long period where only Jack saw the ghost, and the ghost was more chiding than supportive, it actually kind of weakened Jack...ghost-dad as a crutch.

The new use of John in a more Six Feet Under way, appearing to all the kids, is much much better.

I think the show finally has a shot at a fascinating new paterfamilias for the canvas in Murphy. If only they'd play him out of Kay's orbit. I'd like Murph's bait and tackle to become unwieldy (too far to go everyday), but he can't stand sitting around the house. So he goes to help Kevin at Crimson Lights.

There, he begins to interact with the whole canvas...the guy they talk to.

Murphy would also be fabulous as the bartender at Jimmy's.

Paul and Ashley already fizzled in the chemistry test.

Maybe by then B&B will be tired of him, and Bill Spencer Jr. can come shake up the Genoa City Chronicle. Or Amber's ex, Rick Forrester, can come to B&B and pick up where he left off with his cougar Ashley.

Yeah, but who's to say Camryn Grimes would have stayed (or what her acting would have become - look at Alderson on OLTL)? Most likely she might have, but who knows. And didn't Kimberly McCollough publicly bash GH a ton of times, and then eventually reprise the role. Plus, KM is not the best actress...

I think the circumstances surrounding John's death were far worse than his death itself.

Again, no more twins. Cassie's is dead. Her twin is not going to fill that void. Yes it's a familiar face (Grimes) but the character would be totally different. With so many possibilities out there, going that route would just be lazy.

    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
    • I tend to think that Chad will actually listen to Jen (this time). And that will be the next stumbling block in their relationship, which will open the possibilities for Cat to seek another member of their love triangle... To iterate my earlier thought, I am also not a fan of the person Melissa Reeves, but the character of Jennifer looks so chic this week, especially in comparison to Hope (and Gabi).  That blunt haircut is a winner.
    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. Their connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters. All this talk of Jennifer being in the wrong regarding Cat is absurd. Jennifer is not being villainized in any way, shape, or form, she's just being allowed to actually be human, which adds odds to the obstacle of Chad and Cat eventually getting together. All inner conflict. Keep it coming!
