Do soaps have any really great under-30 heroines? Where are the Genie Francises and Missy Reeveses and Cady McClains of today? None of the under-30s on Y&R, B&B or GL do it for me. ATWT did have Maddie but they stupidly fired Alexandra Chando. Liberty might grow into a great heroine. AMC had Eden Riegl and we know how they treated her. I guess GH (Liz, Robin) and OLTL (Langston, Starr) are probably the best off. I just don't understand why Y&R, with its budget, is so lacking in this area. Who is the next Sharon Case?

....... Lily is supposed to be Y&R's young heroine. She is African American, the daughter of an iconic character and she just married a member (?) of the prominent Chancellor family, who might be lying about his identity. I have to say, it looks good in paper.

It's true. I mean, maybe that just better reflects the reality of our lives too. No one is a true "hero" or "villain" in life, either.

That is a terrific idea. I think that syncs a little with Ann_SS comment, about the witty heroine.

Good point.

But Sharon Case, from the beginning, has not been a classic soap "heroine" (by which I mean: always good and noble choices, never intentionally harms anyone, pure victim). I don't think that version of "heroine" exists anymore. And if she did, I think most of us wouldn't like her...because she has no basis in reality.

Putting aside the CK-Lily issue, I think that character (as presently written) would earn a lot of hatred regardless..because she is not written to have any flaws, or any self-awareness of them.

It's definitely going to take me time to accept nu-Adam. He and Engen couldn't look any different if they tried...He looks a bit older too...I guess we'll see if he can sell the material..Just a really awkward time for a recast..

It's just going to be hard adapting to him being Adam.

He is soooo Lamb to me. ;)

This just goes to prove nobody is irreplaceable, at least with the actors that are in the role for a shorter amount of time.

With me, since Engen hasn't been there for that long, I can look past it. I never really cared for Engen and since he's only been there a little over a year, I have no emotional attachment to him.

Yeah, and really, they had no choice anyway. Engen quit in the middle of a frontburner storyline, they couldn't possibly re-write everything at this point.

Muhney doesn't resemble EB much but he looks a lot like Josh Morrow. They should make great brothers. I hope that with the recast, the writers will be savvy enough to tweak the character of Adam to suit the new actor. MM is quite a talent but I don't think he's as inherently sympathetic on-screen as Engen, so TPTB should take the opportunity of the

story to actually redeem Adam somewhat. I am sure Muhney will be delightfully villainous but more in the love to hate school (judging by his Lamb) than in the can't help but love him anyway (which was a special talent of Engen's). If Adam is redeemed by

I have really liked Engen's Adam, but I'm going to be over it in a flash. Basically the second nu-Adam walks out. Even if you ignore all the hype, it seems clear that Engen and the show were not happy with each other -- for whatever reason. So, if this is a healthy parting of the ways, then I'm actually going to assume that a "better energy" will lead to a better on-screen product.

I never watched that show, and I will have to watch those clips.

But was Lamb a good guy? Several folks have said he was snarky? Can you imagine some of his Lamb-like characteristics working for Adam? Or are the characters, in your mind, too different?

Oh, interesting. That's the opposite of what I was thinking, but you're so insightful and reasoned, I find this very persuasive.

What if they went further in the other direction, and made Adam less redeemable. In other words, made him a more clearly defined bad guy (for now)? His redemption arc could follow in the future, much as Michael Baldwin's years ago.

I have a hard time (suspending belief, though) imagining Adam is remotely gay. As it has evolved, I think he's just USING Rafe's vulnerability. I think Rafe will get his heart broken, and then, maybe, he'll find a more genuine relationship with a truly gay/bi character. That's how I am imagining it now.

    • Oh wow that’s pretty awesome! I wish I had  approached him but there was so many people
    • In the current environment, while it's small, there is a crumb of good news: Apparently, San Antonio voted for a DEMOCRATIC mayor, Gina Ortiz, beating the "right-hand man" of Gov. Greg Abbott, former Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5337199-gina-ortiz-jones-wins-san-antonio/
    • Love this! You are both adorable. Wow
    • I have not gone back to watch much of 1987, but from what I've seen lately, it doesn't feel like the writers or producers had any sort of plan. The show feels as if it's constantly in flux.  I will give it credit for this. It's watchable for the most part minus Lisa/Jamie which I find nearly unwatchable now.   I don't find Cheryl mousy. I think she has a lot of quiet strength, but she was saddled with the Scott romance which the writers did not invest in. She had a good friendship with Julie (also criminally underused), and her interactions with Ada were enjoyable as well. I also like Layman, but Spencer was extremely talented and when Cass returns, Schnetzer and Spencer have some wonderful scenes. Spencer also fits in with Alexander, Hogan, and Marie.  I'd forgotten just how much I missed seeing Wallingford. IT was so good to see him again. Even when they didn't have a major plot, Felicia/Cass/Wallingford/Mitch always brings a smile to my face.

    • NBC must have been grateful to have LHOTP, it's only hit and still strong after several seasons. Their next established show was Rockford Files at 45th. They didn't develop any comedies and relied on movies and mini series  which didnt establish viewer loyalty and habits. Their only new hit was mid season's Project UFO which debuted Feb up against Rhoda/On Our Own on CBS and How the West Was Won on ABC. It opened with a strong 36 share beating CBS and close to ABC as HTWWW had a 36 share over 3 hours. The next week UFO saw a respectable 32 share, then a 31 so it was slipping. A 28 share followed but a few weeks later it jumped back up to a 34. So no blockbuster but compared to what else they had, there was potential, So next season NBC sent it to Thursday up against Mork and The Waltons and it bombed.  They were smart to see potential in Chips, which took off on Saturdaysnext season. ABC was on a roll with Love Boat, 3's Company, Taxi, Eight is Enough adding to their hits. Their only real flops were Redd Foxx and San Pedro Beach Bums, an Aaron Spelling misfire. Like Redd Foxx, Harvey Korman was lured to ABC but his series was a filler that did well but was considered a time slot hit. Nancy Walker and Rob Reiner were also given series on the philosophy that not only were they popular names, their absence from popular shows like Sanford, Rhoda and All in the Family might weaken those shows. CBS were relying on old favorites. Betty White was strong the first few weeks then faded. Incredible Hulk was their strongest newbie. It was lucky for CBS that NBC was doing so badly or else some of their weaker shows would have really suffered.
    • That outfit looks like something Martin would wear lol.
    • Omg not we both ran into people from the show this weekend!
    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
