Members Manny
I loved the original Raul/Mac/Billy story. I agree this totally seems unplanned and just thrown in for shock. If it was planned, then it wasn't executed good on screen. But I am willing to give this story a chance. But I'm not sure about Lago/Ford together... While I like Ford much better than Kimsey in the role, she's still no AshBash.. and everyone knows I am a huge Mac fan, but now I am starting to think that I was actually more of a AshBash fan, because every Mac after her has sucked. Ford is better than Kimsey and Kruger, but I still don't feel it... Having said that, I'll wait till I make my judgement on this storyline. I wouldn't even mind if down the road Mac marries Raul. Everyone told me that Y&R is not about supercouples. Okay, I was always Raul/Mac AND Mac/Billy fan, so Mac ending with either Raul or Billy is fine by me. I wouldn't want them married right away though..
Members MarkH
I agree. I think for me the intriguing piece -- with all these characters -- is to see how the "teen" drama translates into adulthood. They identified that Rafe was a "scholarship student" (his words) at Walnut Grove. Was Raul also a scholarship student, or did his hard-working parents (whom we met during the kidney crisis) skimp and scrape to put him through? Either way, it would be a SHOCK to me if Rafe and Raul didn't have SOME common ground...since they were both rare hispanic/latino students (at a white-bread private school) and they both hung out with Billy. I guess I hope they "ground" Raul by having him interact with his real scene partners from the past (Mac, Billy, JT, maybe even Victoria given the Diego tie-in), but also create a richer history for him as a friend of Rafe's. I enjoy it when the canvas is integrated and tightly knit. Raul's chemistry with Mac was okay. For me, however, it never held a candle to Billy-Mac. Still, anything was better than Raul-Brittany! Members JackPeyton
i agree the raul thing was sudden. it wouldnt surprise me at all if they had planned on bringing on this guy from mac's time away and then last minute decided, for maximum drama, to make him Raul. Members Cat
The Raul thing is sudden because CBS got wind of David Lago auditioning for (and purportedly almost getting) the part of Dante on GH. I suspect somebody *cough*Barbara Bloom*cough* reminded Y&R that bringing back the Emmy-winning Christopher Walken impersonator might be of interest.
