this is where I don't understand "negotiations".

If MTS says "0% cut" and the show says "40% cut"...what is middle ground? 20%?

Why is it always "all or none"?

And what about the men?? This is a valid issue. Will Bergman and Braeden take cuts? Yeah, right....

Honestly the business of soaps is the best soap out there. I don't know how anybody refuses to take a pay cut in the current economic environment. Anybody who thinks they're above one must need the money because most of their paycheck is going to their weed dealer. Here's some advice: take the paycut and grow your own.

And I'm going to have to check out the OLTL clips Nelson's referring to. I've been pushing for McManning for months. Throw some RJ into that mix and I'm in hoyay heaven.

ETA: Okay. I just watched it. That was disappointing. Nelson needs to get out more.

That is a VERY good question. For a women's medium, soaps are run too much like the old Playboy Bunny Clubs of the 1970's.

All John and Todd ever do is phone in their performances. There's about as much chemistry as you'd find at a Rip Van Winkle contest.

Speaking of phoning it in, I am still wondering why Braeden or Morrow aren't asked to take paycuts.

BUt don't you think men are taking pay cuts when their cycles are up, and it's just not publicized in the press?

Graz just re-signed. I don't know this for sure, but my guess is that he probably took a pay cut. But the media doesn't reference those that DO take the cut. Just those that DON'T.

Oh yeah ME and TSJ are definitely both killing time, but if they want to kill time kissing each other I'd come back for that. It would make more sense than the unholy pentagram of idiocy with Blair/Marty/Tea.

I suspect the men aren't taking less money. I wonder if they're getting shorter contracts though. It seems like contracts are coming up faster and faster. I also think the women's business is being "leaked" more readily and in more unattractive stories than the men's in the attempt to make them look bad i.e. like unreasonable divas.

You know. Now that I've thought about it, I'm glad they asked her to go on recurring as opposed to just threatening to recast. Then again, maybe it's not like Jess Walton whose contract was up. Maybe they're trying to renegotiate a contract that still has time on it. Whatever the case, this is going to be dicey over the next couple weeks.

Given the power Braeden wields, I'm not sure I can see him taking a paycut. Morrow may have, I don't know what the details of his last contract are, but whatever he's making I think it's too much for the quality of work he has given the past few years.

There's no real need for Nikki now. They have phased her out of any important place in GC. I think they know people wouldn't accept a Nikki recast, so they can just write her out.

I kinda agree Carl. Her romance with Paul is off screen so they could easily just write the two off together. Then her relationship with Victor is completely dead, Victoria is off screen and the only parent Nick needs is Victor. I understand Nikki was on the frontburner for a long time and needed a break, but she's not being used in stories where she's relevant. Why isn't her romance with Paul on screen? Why isn't Victor more involved in her love life? Where is she in Nick's life? I dunno, it just seems odd. Maybe they're flashing back to when MTS cleaned out her dressing room. I could definitely see her leaving based on that, the exit of her husband and the fact that the cast never gives her a PreNom.

I think they're trying to send a message to all of the older veterans aside from the two they will never get rid of (Jeanne Cooper, Eric Braeden). Nikki has been replaced in Victor's life by Ashley, which is easier for the show, because all they need to do with Ashley is more baby stories and more crazy stories, and occasionally stories about her being torn between her family and Victor. They give her the same stories they did 25 years ago. Nikki is more difficult to write for, so they can send a problematic character packing, remind us that Victor has won (since Victor always has to win), and have more money freed up.

Then if other actors in this pay range get any ideas of not playing ball, they will worry about the same happening to them. Ashley now has no real place besides being Victor's girlfriend, so she could be written out. Jack has no one who cares about him, and he's probably not going to be the father of Sharon's baby, so once the Mary Jane story is over, he could be written out. Jill only has Cane who cares about her, so she could have been written out if Jess hadn't gone along with what they wanted.

I remember this. The guy from Passions who is Rafe on Days now was also seen in the studio at that time. There was a rumor that they were considering recasting the role of Nick if Morrow did not take the pay cut.

Most soap actors do not admit that they have taken a pay cut.

Oh, I remember that! Wasn't that when Nick was involved in the plane crash (which happened under mysterious circumstances that have yet to be explained) and met some woman who turned out to be a doctor (and whose name I'm forgetting at the moment)?
