The Bells vs Daytime

Well, back in the days before JER ruined soaps for everyone (and I mean EVERYONE), not only did soaps have mainstream respectability, but they had street cred too. Most inner city gangs were split over which soap it's members followed. Perhaps you were too young to remember newspaper headlines like "Murdered for watching the wrong soap" and tv news exposes featuring victim's family members sobbing "My baby waz killed 'cause he was be caught watchin' General Hospital". Believe me, those days were brutal. As time went on, the Bell Soap gangs formed a pact to bring down the other soap gangs. Their wicked union worked and to this day, the animosity between the non-Bell soaps and Bell soaps lingers on through internet message forums.

Now you know but ssssshhh, don't tell anyone.

JER is the reason why I started to watch soaps.

Passions: 2002 - 2008

DOOL: 2003 - 2008

Y&R, B&B, OLTL, GL: 2008 - present

It's like those people who argue on other TV sites about whether BSG or Lost is a better TV "mythology" show (and then the X-Files fans jump in to say why neither holds a candle to "their" show). Why can't they both be good, for different reasons?!

I hope that's not a slam against "The X-Files"? Because, if it is? Then, this X-Phile's gonna have to cut a bitch. ;)

We did this already.....

Oh please, the Bell soaps are like every other show, except for superior production values. Great sets, lighting, camera work and direction can do a hell of a lot mask terrible acting and poor writing. Think about it!

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but the job of a director is supposed to help make the actor better....

That's why PASSIONS constantly failed.

Not at all. I have all my X-Files DVD box sets, and try to watch them once a year. I have NO qualms with X-Files, Lost, BSG, Y&R, AMC, DOOL, etc.

I do have qualms with fanbases that think they're fighting a war to prove why "they rule and others drool"

People. Can't we all just get along? *wrings hands towards the heavens*

Some of us Y&R viewers actually *gasp* watch other soaps and appreciate them. When I tune into AMC or GH or Days, I'm looking for something Y&R can't give me. And vice versa. It's called variety.

^^^I don't watch any other soap anymore, but when I did, I agree with Cat. Moreso for the variety of actors.

I do have to say this... This thread did exactly what it was intended to do: Be incredibly divisive and insulting.

Hey now - some of us tried to rise above it.
