Holy Toledo! I'd tell you, I've never seen such rampant press coverage nor a firestorm among blogs, internet and elsewhere about "Guiding Light" these days than any soaps in recent years. For all of this hoopla, CBS should renew GL at least for 2 years!

There is going to be hoopla over it no matter what.

This is the oldest TV show or show in broadcast history. It is definitely going to make news.

I have a friend on the show and I watched it today, I've been trying to watch more often because if it's cancelled I'll wish that I'd watched it more... that's what happened with me and AW. It does not look nearly as bad as it used to. It was actually kinda pretty, Josh was lit very well in his scenes with Reva. I still roll my eyes when Reva "wells up" however, her "I'm fighting back the tears" voice.

This at least tells us more about what's going on (I didn't know Bloom had dropped hints to them on set that the show would be renewed). That EW article was just terrible and said nothing new, what they did say baffled me, like trying to conflate Y&R and GH.

I think it's important to keep in mind that EVERYBODY so far is only re-printing or quoting the TVWeek article and while the article is certainly true, CBS and the other networks have contracted out development projects in the past with nothing coming of it. CBS would probably be kind of foolish to be entering into negotiations without a backup plan. NBC tried to develop replacements for DOOL and everyone thought that was it for Days but they were renewed less than a week after the development plans were announced. NBC developed a daytime reality show a few years ago, they even hired Millee Taggart as a consultant, but they ended up syndicating it rather than airing it themselves and it was cancelled after three years.
